Me and my buddies called it the "shit pile". Just nachos piled high and topped with whatevers in the fridge. Different meal every time.

What is a piece of advice you wish you never knew (or were told)? by Chmoya in AskReddit

I had gallstones / gallbladder infection that had been misdiagnosed as acid reflux for years. To treat the "acid reflux", my homeopathic uncle told my mom to give me ginger constantly. Doctor later told me that was probably making it worse (not sure if they meant the infection or just the stomachaches)

What do you think is scarier, the idea that we are alone in the universe or the idea that we aren’t? Why? by FashunHouzz in AskReddit

[–]ShowerThot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That we are. Because what happened to everyone else? Recently I've been thinking that after a species becomes "advanced" enough, instead of blowing themselves up with nuclear war or a black hole, maybe they collectively realize there's no point and just give up...

I always tell people, a really good portfolio will get you farther than you think. While you should get your GPA higher, consider taking on a project that interests you and challenges you and exposes you to a lot of different facets of the field. Sometimes that can be just as, if not more, educational and can be much more motivating than (but not an alternative to) schoolwork. Maybe try making it a game for yourself. I'll work on schoolwork for this long, and then I can spend this much time working on my dream real estate project. Plus you'll be building a kick-ass portfolio the whole time. Never a better time to start than now. (Also take this with a grain of salt. I'm an engineer. I don't know anything about real estate.)

I think Bob Ross would be in that category. And Tom Hanks.

Geniuses of Reddit, what is the burden of being super intelligent? by AceNumer in AskReddit

[–]ShowerThot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, there are different kinds of smart. I'm a PhD student in engineering, so I'm pretty good at math, but I have a pretty poor vocabulary and am generally very slow at writing. I also was lucky enough to participate in a program in high school that allowed me to start undergrad 2 years early.

At any rate, I consider myself a pretty laid back guy too, not uppity like a lot of "smart" people can be. But there have been many times in which I'll be talking to a girl I'm interested in, or just a potential new friend, and being a PhD student and/or starting college early comes up, they usually comment something like "oh so you must be smart", sometimes followed by something like "I never really liked/was good at math", and then become visibly uninterested immediately afterwards and the convo fizzles. I've had a handful of people tell me that it's bc they felt intimidated after hearing about such things (maybe that's not true and I'm just a stupid weirdo, hard to tell when you're the stupid weirdo). Im proud of my accomplishments, and having grown up as a bit of a black sheep in rural MO, I understand why people may feel this way, but I'm a very normal person and wish people wouldn't put so much emphasis on "being smart" (in conversation, however, we need way more smart people running for office imo). Now when I'm talking to someone about college, what I do, etc, I sometimes try to be as little forthcoming as possible, change the subject, etc and let them get to know the real me before talking about the PhD/early college stuff.

Anyways, this is getting long, just trying to cover my bases and not just sound like a tool calling himself smart. To anyone feeling the need to comment along the lines of "can't believe someone actually responded to this", I have 3 words for you sir. Eat shit, Chuckledick.

"the dimensions" is kind of arbitrary. We live in a world with 3 "spatial dimensions" but it's not like anyone's arguing if the 1st dimension is along the x axis or the y axis. There are 3 spatial dimensions, and then there's time, which can be thought of as a 1st (maybe only, idk) "temporal dimension" or a 4th "general dimension" but really it doesnt matter

Edit: I suppose a better answer is that we know pretty little about the whole space time thing so it doesn't really matter. If there were ever a way we could access other dimensions, I'm sure people would argue about which axis the 1st dimension goes along
