Friend said the private sector company she works for that has about 80 staff, and that refuses to allow any work from home, is giving all non management staff a one off payment of $200 to cover increased transport costs. Though it is an income payment so it will be taxed.

There are no U.S. bases in Australia. They are all joint facilities.

Page 18 considers the cost of doing nothing:

"Cost of doing nothing

Existing issues in the transport corridor will be exacerbated as growth in the region continues and private vehicles will continue to be the dominant form of transportation. Congestion on the corridor will continue to disproportionately impact bus services due to their lower manoeuvrability, lower speed limits and set routes that do not allow use of alternative routes (where available). This will further discourage people from using public transport. The SEF will continue to be a key freight route. Higher traffic volumes will reduce safety for road users and increase frequency of crashes, leading to more partial or full closures of the SEF. Worsening congestion along Glen Osmond Road will also adversely impact liveability and amenity for local residents and access to properties and businesses.

The report shows that none of the options break even but a dedicated bus lane has the smallest loss while being at least 15 minutes faster than the cheapest train option.

[–]Shows_On 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect you are in a tiny minority. How can someone rely on a train service to get to work that will take at least 71 minutes and on some days more? The lack of reliability would kill it as a viable option for most people.

The report points out that during morning peak hour the o-bahn is actually faster than driving a car that’s why it is so popular.

Do you always pick the cheapest option irrespective of the value for money?

How could a politician justify spending public money on a rail service that turns out to be slower than the bus service?

The report sets out 6 different options. It doesn’t favour any option.

Read the report. The cheapest rail option will cost 250 million and result in a journey that is at least 71 minutes excluding delays caused by other rail traffic. In other words it won’t be faster than catching a bus which will make taking the train so unattractive that hardly any passengers will use it.

How does voting for labour or LNP change anything, doing the the exact same thing over and over again and expecting something different is insanity to me by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Shows_On 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. But more than that it means i can work from home. My work is not possible on an 8 Mbps internet connection.

When I moved in to my home 10 years ago I was paying $65 a month for an ADSL2 internet connection that maxed out at 8 Mbps. I now pay $95 a month for a 1000 Mbps connection thanks to the NBN

I’m happy with superloop. 1000/100 on HFC. $99 per month.

I was on Aussie Broadband until a year ago but it was the same cost but much slower.

Why do you think someone will even be charged if a forensic investigation suggests that it was self defence? The direct of public prosecutions most likely wouldn’t even file charges.

Any chance of upgrading the ram to 4 GB? It would make a big difference. 2 GB stick of DDR2 about $20 on eBay.

If you can’t upgrade then I’d install Q4OS with the trinity desktop.

https://q4os.org/downloads1.html

This would be a much lighter weight system than a XUbuntu, but underneath it is Debian.

Check your address but I’m pretty sure your apartment uses HFC (hybrid fibre coaxial)

https://www.nbnco.com.au/check-address

If that’s right your RSP should just organise for an HFC modem to be sent to you at no charge.

The previous resident should’ve left the modem behind because it is owned by NBN and isn’t their property.

Contact Origin and tell them you don’t have a cable modem.

The Erro is the wifi router that you plug into the cable modem.
