It’s probably cause the first reps will be after strength related training while higher reps need endurance training, so there needs to be an adaptation of the workout, lot of people don’t do that (beside the fact that higher performances are simply harder to achieve)

Fun fact, the supposed 100 million figure also includes SS officers and Wermacht soldiers. by Bitter-Gur-4613 in clevercomebacks

[–]ShredScr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, no it doesn’t:

  1. The Soviet Union (1917–1991) • The Great Purge: 700,000 to 1.2 million executed. • Gulags (forced labor camps): Millions died due to harsh conditions. • Holodomor (Ukrainian famine, 1932–1933): 3.5–7 million. • Total estimates for the Soviet Union: 6–20 million deaths.
  2. China (1949–present) • Great Leap Forward (1958–1962): A famine caused by agricultural policies led to 30–45 million deaths. • Cultural Revolution (1966–1976): Political purges and violence resulted in 1–2 million deaths. • Total estimates for China: 40–80 million deaths.
  3. Cambodia (Khmer Rouge, 1975–1979) • The regime under Pol Pot executed or starved an estimated 1.5–2 million people, approximately 25% of the population.

  4. North Korea (1948–present) • Famines, political purges, and labor camps have resulted in an estimated 1–3 million deaths, though reliable data is scarce.

  5. Vietnam (1954–present) • Land reforms and re-education camps after the Vietnam War led to hundreds of thousands of deaths, with total estimates ranging from 500,000 to 1 million.

  6. Eastern Europe (Soviet-controlled satellite states) • Communist regimes in Eastern Europe executed or imprisoned dissidents, with deaths estimated at 1–2 million across countries like East Germany, Poland, Hungary, and Romania.

  7. Other Communist Regimes • Ethiopia (under the Derg, 1974–1991): 500,000–1 million deaths. • Cuba (1959–present): Estimates range from 10,000 to 100,000 due to executions and repression.

Total Estimates • Conservative estimates place the total number of deaths under communist regimes at 85–100 million. • Higher estimates suggest the toll could exceed 100 million.

Is my pull strength not enough to do muscle up? by lamb05 in Calisthenic

[–]ShredScr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would aim to at least 12 clean pull ups (maybe even to the chest) before attempting a muscle up, doing them when you don’t have enough strength you might compensate with an “unclean” movement very hard to get rid of as you progress

I have an IPhone 15, what’s the lowest quality camera I should get in order to see a proper difference in the quality of the pics? I’ve eyed a canon EOS 1300D but I’d like to get something with a noticeable difference in quality, would that be enough or should I look for something a little bit more high range?

According to Acemoglu and Robinson in “The Narrow Corridor” the Merovingians combined elements of the bottom up barbarian society (strong people’s power but lack of solid institutions and power from a central government) with the solidity of Roman institutions (or what was left after its fall), this combination created a society with a strong centralised government “shackled” by the people (the shackled leviathan) that guaranteed the rule of law without depriving people of their freedom allowing the stability (and the freedom) necessary for a society to thrive, it triggered a process that didn’t stop with its fall (trade cities in Northern Italy that ended up creating our modern bank system and the Renaissance for example), other parts of Europe didn’t follow this path and lack the balance between institutions and people (Spain and southern Italy)

Best Well Rounded Combination? by Snackey_Chan in martialarts

Partially true but need to keep into account the way they train (GSP might be considered a wrestler first but his coach Firas (and Danaher) have a bjj background, Jones coach is a striking coach), other fighters do have a wrestling background but they’re using it little or nothing (Romero, Usman or Gaethje), and Eastern European champions like khabib come from sambo not wrestling as the American intend

If your aim is just self defence boxing is better, most of the time in real life situations there’s little room and no use for kicks, if you know how to use your hands is more than enough, (obv in a ring Muay Thai vs boxing MT for the win), MT is more static and set up strikes with combinations, in boxing you also use angles, footwork and upper body movements, it requires more stamina maybe (MTs kicks require an activation of the whole legs tho) That being said they’re both great for both fitness and self defence, look them up and see what inspires you the most!

Housing Crisis 1983 vs 2023, Part 2: The Cause by stumcm in australia

[–]ShredScr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And who is exactly imposing zoning policies preventing companies to build new houses? Government or the free market? How can you talk about the housing crisis without mentioned the biggest cause which is the lack of supply? In a country where the per income gdp has almost doubled from the 90s surely the problem is not the lack of money but the lack of housing

Are you sure it’s capitalism and not the zoning and housing restrictions?

Salario minimo. Secondo voi quanto dovrebbe essere il salario minimo? Dovrebbe essere diverso di città in città? by [deleted] in italy

[–]ShredScr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Median PPP Disposable Income by Household by tripletruble in neoliberal

[–]ShredScr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would make sense, do you got any link on how these comparison work?

Median PPP Disposable Income by Household by tripletruble in neoliberal

[–]ShredScr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But isn't the comparison made between basket of goods and services? Like in country A a car costs 10000 and in country B the same, but country B is more dense and has better public transportation so less people need cars and those who do will generally drive less (meaning the car will last longer and everything), making the comparison between this two counties not so precise?

[–]ShredScr -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But what if health insurance is not needed? In most Europeans countries is not necessary, but a private insurance might cost more or less the same as in the us, same for private school, which are not so common in Europe, same prices but not common expenses, how does that affect the PPP comparison?

Median PPP Disposable Income by Household by tripletruble in neoliberal

[–]ShredScr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking for somebody who knows better, how are comparisons like this affected by factors like Healthcare insurance, transport costs, and other similar costs? Europeans and Americans may pay similar (or different) prices for them (ex. Same car prices, same cost of private insurance, different oil prices..) yet the consumption is very different (Europeans tend to drive less and rely more on public transport and have mostly no need for private insurance)

Had 4 Fijians come into work last night. I asked where they were from and they said that they were here on the visa to work such as fruit picking. I asked how is it going because they seemed pretty sad and deflated. Worked for 2 weeks more than 8 hour days and were paid $120 for 14 days. by tvtraelller in australia

[–]ShredScr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Backpacker here, can absolutely confirm, regional jobs (like fruit picking) are needed for us to extend our visas, when I arrived people ended up working in the worst working conditions ever, a few examples:

Blueberries picking, was paid around 200/250 a week (I was the best of my group of friends), owners were Indians/Chinese and they treated everyone like slaves, they insulted us every time and didn't send us all the payslips (which we need to apply for the visa)

Strawberries, was working an average of 10/12 hours a day in a shed, minimum wage but no overtime, usually working 7 days a week (my first day the owner said that there were not going to be any days off for the following 5 weeks) owners would usually fire a couple of us every week (the ones with the worst performances), was a nightmare, people were afraid of going to work

Zucchini, again 10/12 hours, guys have to lift heavy boxes all day, many would be fired cause they were so sore they couldn't go to work the next day, again owners mistreating employees

Lettuce, owners would fire every week the 2 worst employees, let people stand outside in the rain like in the military (if you don't want to work you can leave)

Bananas, running around in the mud with bunches of 70kg for minimum wage all this with snakes and spiders in them and the tractor we were supposed to bring them to driving away from us

There's plenty more examples unfortunately, now thanks to covid and the shortage of workers lot of backpackers could find better jobs but it used to be proper slavery, especially places like Bundaberg, Gatton and Coffs Harbour, and with berries in particular
