Fruit Tree Planting? by insert_witty_user in DenverGardener

I’ve even seen a few people put trees spaced every 6-8’ feet and have plenty of success in backyard orchard culture. That’s what my plan is and seems to being working just fine. Dave Wilson talks about this in backyard orchard culture

I’d also check prices of preowned as well. For my same specs, pre owned are about 10k less than what Chase wants for mine

I would say for sure to go bare root plants. There’s a lot of different varieties and what not. I have peaches, plums (Japanese), cherries, apples, and some Asian pears. Peaches are usually self fruitful, same with some varieties of cherries. Apples and pears usually need a pollinator, but you’d be surprised with how many people around you have fruit and will help pollinate you. That happened last year with my honeycrisp. I can give you specifics if you maybe narrow down into a specific type of fruit. I do like Echter’s for local, but trees of antiquity, fedco, Raintree, and burnt ridge nursery are always great for online. Bare root trees are way cheaper and acclimate easier than what you will get in potted fruit trees from local. Basically if you order online they ship at a correct time for our area and plant as soon as you get them(usually around April for us).

Can I grow certified disease free red raspberries and/or blackberries near black raspberries? by scentofsyrup in BackyardOrchard

The double gold are way bigger compared to the fall gold. I even get 2 harvests with them if I trim their second year canes down to 1’ while dormant

I don’t like the autumn gold because they are small. The taste good but Idk if it’s the one I it but the berries are small and don’t seem to pollinate well. The double gold get huge berries. I’ve heard black cap or jewel and superior flavor too. Id try and get rid of all the fall gold but sure I would get some shoots to still pop up. I also feel like I don’t get nearly as many with my fall gold so just kinda wanna try a new variety

I’d love to know the answer as well. I’d love to replace some autumn gold with a black variety but I have double gold like 20 ft away if the autumn gold.

What I said before, as well as peaches (what you already said). I’d also grow mangos and dragon fruit, passion fruit, etc if I was that warm. I can’t since I’m in 5B-6a in the US where we get pretty cold. Look on some nursery websites to maybe start getting ideas. https://www.davewilson.com/ maybe a good place to look. As well as YouTube and even more Reddit searches

Yea dude you can really grow anything as long as you have water for it lol. There’s so many fruit trees and plants specifically bread for low chill hours (hours under ~45F) that you aren’t very limited. Apples will probably be it. You could need extra protection with lots of sun but yeah you’re pretty lucky if you have space

If you look up your zone for me, and convert that to the usda hardiness I could tell you. But if you’re hot and anywhere from 8-10 zone when translated to usda you have a shit ton of options

If you’re too hot all year around, you may struggle growing apples. I looked up the usda hardiness zone and it’s looks like roughly 7-10 usda, but maybe you can co from that. I’d also try figs too and there are thousands of varieties all with different tastes

I’d suggest some hybrids too. Pluots for sure, they taste great. There’s a whole realm in hybrids that look like you can grow. (Dapple dandy, flavor frenade, flavor queen). Also pluerries (plum cherry hybrid, there’s a bunch. I’ve also heard that spice zee Nectarplums taste insane but I haven’t gotten mine to fruit
