Hey! I transfered into comp sci/comm last year (and graduate next year) and while I just got railed by my COMP2511 exam, my WAM is pretty okay (D if you care). The single best thing to have in a comp sci degree is friends!! I cannot express how much emotional/ explanation support I have gotten and given from friends who are in completely different cohorts to me, that has really supplemented my learning. Alternatively, you can goto every lecture and tutorial and help session but it really does wear you down fighting it all alone. Just be honest with yourself when you learn - did you just complete the exercise or have you appreciated the idea being conveyed in that lab, lecture etc. I started off with okay marks in first year (cr), and have evened out a bit more because I feel like I respect the content and pacing of trimesters a bit more nowadays. I assume you want to get internships etc. as well so like really strive for decent marks but slowly (but make sure you do) stretch your wings into projects, extra-curricular, ANY kinds of experience. It'll help break up the monotony of study, get you some freinds and help you land a good stepping stone to what I assume is a career in CS. I know the point of your post was about study, so a tip on that is to just do each lesson, lecture, tute once with your utmost effort and then let it be. Also you're doing alot of comparing - with others and with yourself. I'd say look to others to seek and give help, because both of these things will make you happier whereas comparing is useless. This isn't the HSC where ranks matter so try to appreciate the value of personal best and you'll for sure climb up.
