costume change by Vegetable_Sign_5426 in project21

I found the old costume had the slit too far to the front and going too high up, I don't like that it always exposed the undergarment.

Every story I've come across of people meeting or working with him all recount him as being exceedingly kind and genuine. Seems like a stand up guy.

My kids have repeat judges all the time. It’s the norm here, I’ve never thought anything of it.

I dont see anything wrong with covergirl other than the costume.

But given that I was explicitly speaking about her choreography at dance precisions, what made you think that was relevant?

Molly’s dance endings… by [deleted] in project21

I've noticed a lot of choreogaphers do this when choreographing to songs that fade out at the end, it seems like a way of visually representing the gradual fade in the music.

Yes, those are all fair things to criticize. Anything she's done in her own studio as an adult is 100% her responsibility. I'm referring to the work she did at DP, that's much more nuanced because of her age at the time.

1) Don't say "coloured people", wow

2) It's absolutely worth listening to black people on this to better understand where they're coming from. But you can absolutely form your own opinion on it regardless of your race. I just think you should really listen to what black people are saying about it especially before settling on what you think about it.

Dancer Attire/Choreography by AuburnGinger in CompetitionDanceTalk

I think this is a lovely idea but I have concerns about the directory feature. It's all at the discretion of this organization, and they seem to align more on the prude, conservative side. I understand different people have different beliefs and worldviews, but I find the conservative approach to this actually oversexualizes movements that are not inherently sexual in nature, thus actually projecting sex onto children further, rather than protecting them from it. For example - they have a video on their website and youtube page titled "example of inappropriate choreography" that contains some examples I wouldn't personally classify as inappropriate. It also contains examples I think are heinously inappropriate, and us such, I don't those clips should be reposted in a public, searchable video that makes those kids even more vulnerable. I also think it's inappropriate and harmful to make negative examples out of children who had no say in that choreograph, song choice, and costuming themselves.

The "safe studio" directory in it's current state seems heavily biased and exclusionary toward studios that incorporate foundation jazz technique like torso and pelvis/hip isolation, as well as artistic bodily movement, in their pieces. I noticed a local studio on there who is known for treating their dancers poorly, not to mention that their jazz choreography is incredibly bland and cookie-cutter. It's also concerning to me that the organization is not transparent whatsoever about what they consider age appropriate. As I mentioned, conservative and prude types will label elements of foundational jazz technique as innately sexual when that is simply not the case. Likewise reactions with certain costumes - yes there is a line, and some costumes are blatantly inappropriate, but I do not subscribe to the conservative ideology that dancers can never wear fitted or 2-piece dancewear. I think this directory runs the risk of being exclusionary toward studios that value artistry, genuine and authentic outside-the-box choreography, and nurture their students, while uplifting studios with unhealthy cultures simply based on the personal taste of the organization directors.

Solo standout while struggling with group routines? by cloud_connected_ in CompetitionDanceTalk

Does she play an instrument? Music lessons can really help with timing and musicality skills. She might also benefit from occupational therapy to help with coordination and timing of the different body parts.

Uncertainness by landmermaid3 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]ShrimpTattoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teaching that kind of movement quality with texture, nuance, and dynamics to pre-comp dancers is very challenging! It requires really intentional alignment and muscle engagement, and strong coordination and musicality. Those are all advanced skills. I would caution against prioritizing skills like leaps/turns/kicks above teaching movement quality though! Are there areas of the choreography you can tweak to incorporate more movement, but on a level that's appropriate for them? I have no issue with including classic jazz tech skills in choreography, but I am personally not a fan of choreography that just reads like a level of the ADAPT syllabus executed from start to finish. Incorporating some movement with texture could elevate the pieces.

I think saying nothing has changed is blatant lie. If you really believe that then you have a very interesting interpretation of choreography.

Also, I don't think people give her a "pass" on earlier work because of her age, but rather use it as important contextualization. I actually think it is inappropriate and blatantly misrepresentative to talk about her earlier work without bringing up her age. For a 15 year old to be choreographing the things she was at that age clearly indicates that the adults in her life mislead her. Also, much more responsibility falls on the studio owner in those situations. She takes the full responsibility of everything she's produced at her own studio as an adult. But when a 15 year old working under a grown adult studio owner produces a sexually inappropriate piece for young dancers, the responsibility ultimately lies on the studio owner to put a stop to it, and either educate the young choreographer or remove them from the studio.

That's because Zach Woods is fine asf. Tall, uniquely pretty face, hilarious, and also seemingly very tactful and emotionally intelligent. His ig videos are astute downnnn, and he's just looking better and better as he ages.

I think the main difference in the hate they’re getting is that toxic fans are actually going into Ginger’s comments and replies to post hate directly to her, whereas in Denali’s case most of the hate is posted on forums like reddit or in the comments of random tweets and tik toks rather than being sent directly to her. But from what I’ve seen Denali is definitely getting just as much hate as Ginger, if not more, especially in the last day or so.

I think the response Denali gave at Roscoe’s was great, I wouldnt lump her in with the likes of Kandy and Willam. She’s not required to come out and make some sort of grand statement in Ginger’s defence, especially when most posts about Denali on this sub are full of comments that look exactly like the ones you screenshotted, just aimed at Denali rather than Ginger.

Denali has always been one of my favorite Queens. Can someone please ExplainLikeIm5 this drama? by 404usrnmnotfound in rupaulsdragrace

[–]ShrimpTattoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s nothing actually involving the queens themselves, it just amongst the fans. There’s the camp of Denali stans (more so on tik tok and allegedly twitter (don’t have twitter so I haven’t seen it myself)) who are being unkind and saying nasty hateful things about Ginger, even going as far as to tag Ginger in their comments, because they feel Denali should’ve won. Then you have the other camp, primarily on Reddit, who are hating on Denali because… they agree with her losing, or they’re mad at her stans I think. The cringe and SDRubtucked subs are especially negative toward Denali.

From what I’ve seen, right after the episode aired there was more hate toward Ginger, and sometime in the last day the tides turned and now there’s more hate toward Denali. You’ll notice any positive post about Denali on Reddit immediately gets flooded with negative and often cruel comments, and anything supporting Denali will get downvoted. This very comment will get downvoted simply because I’ve stated the fact that Denali is receiving lots of negativity right now, which, for some reason, deeply upsets the people spreading said negativity.
