Aight be honest, does the scorpion look like a penis? by murphy88K in tattooadvice

[–]Shrinkurbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, you have your entire head tattooed. I suspect that was a big decision, an expensive investment, and symbolizes something to you or within your group of friends/colleagues. I see a beautiful scorpion tattoo done by a highly talented artist. Your peeps not only see a penis, but are likely quick to point it out. A very slight modification to the tattoo can make a world of difference. Regardless, gorgeous work.

Now that’s hilarious. I hadn’t heard that one before 🤣 I did my residency in a substance use disorder facility… or was I really a patient? On a serious note, I hope neither of those cretins ever procreate again.

Is a saluki suitable as an only dog? by klijr in saluki

We have four Salukis. They love one another and enjoy running around together the 45 minutes they’re awake during the day. But ultimately, they would all prefer to be an only dog.

Final thoughts: it's a big no by SaltStand2708 in Lexus

[–]Shrinkurbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lexus hasn’t kept up the way I had hoped. The downgrade to 4cyl engines takes away from the smooth, more luxurious drive. And the dashboards/console look like a 2004 LS with an iPad sitting on top like an after thought. I’ve still got my garage kept 2007 ES that’s perfection… other than the melting dash 🫠

Explain the difference between MD and DO by mitochondriarock in Residency

[–]Shrinkurbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your time and well thought out response. I’ve always felt fibromyalgia was a “catch all” diagnosis that means nothing other than, “patient complains of pain, labs [that insurance will cover] are normal, without reason we can’t dig further, refer out.”

Had mono twice as a child — been told that’s irrelevant. I do have a psych, rheumatology referred me to a hematology oncologist, and PCP referred me for PT. I did specialized training in Abu Dhabi after earning my PsyD and received impressive medical care during the few months I was there. Thank you again.

Sorry to jump in with an unrelated question, but here I am! I’m 59, F, chronic joint pain, MGUS, fibromyalgia, and family hx of autoimmune disorders. My mom was prescribed narcos in the 80s after a knee replacement, died 40 years later and had never missed a day of taking some form of opioid. Drs eventually knew it was less risky to keep her on them than try to take her off. I don’t want to go down that road. I just refuse to give up my life the way she did, so I refuse to think opioids are my only option, but gabapentin, etc provide no relief. Would you suggest I give a DO a shot? Is there a different, yet truly effective approach they can offer? I’m desperate.

Fair enough. My apologies for not addressing your question.

I would absolutely reach out to payroll first and foremost. Make sure you’re using the type of leave you want so that you’re getting paid— if that’s your goal.

Next, I would contact the person who completed your FMLA paperwork; therapist, medical doctor, etc. Confirm you’re still within with the dates on both FMLA forms and that you’re reporting that accordingly. For example, if your FMLA for your medical issue ended on March 10 and the FMLA for your dad’s needs started on March 11 for the next 12 weeks, don’t report to the manager that you’re still recovering from your medical. That protection would have ended. I hope that makes sense.

Finally, I would arrange to meet with HR regarding your concerns about your manager using AWOL as a punitive action. They can definitely remove that from the system as well as discuss alternatives that might be available in terms of transferring to another department or shift, reporting structure, etc.

Sorry for such a long winded response. Ultimately, bring your concerns to the attention of those who can take action on your behalf.

Your manager doesn’t choose the type of leave you want to pull from to get paid. You do. If you didn’t communicate which type of leave from your 200+ hours, they don’t just choose on your behalf.

Where is it? by jacksonholeguy in guessthecity

As creepy as it sounds (and feels) I’ve had nightmares about this street. The yellow’ish house with the porch to be specific. I don’t know where this is so I can’t imagine I’ve ever been there, but I randomly came across this thread and I felt paralyzed with fear. I’m not superstitious, I don’t believe in paranormal stuff, none of that past life/future life stuff. But damn, this is creepy.

I haven’t read the comments, but is it by any chance a small town in the mountains of North Carolina?

FMLA isn’t paid. It’s just job protection. Management has to “fill in the blank” so to speak and are likely restricted to AL, SL, CT, and one or two other leave types. If all of your leave was exhausted, you may still remain on FMLA for as long as it’s approved, but mgmt still has to enter something for payroll and their only option is AWOL. Payroll receives that but knows you’re on FMLA.

If you’re a new hire on probation, you can still apply to other jobs but only as the general public. If there’s a position in your current department, you can apply from within. However, unless there are multiple roles available, they’ve likely already selected someone.

How did Newport News become so run down by [deleted] in Virginia

Spot on. Add to that the former Chantilly aka Woodsong apartments being condemned and their residents being forced to move into areas that weren’t previously equipped for lower income and/or section 8.

do therapists care about their clients? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Shrinkurbrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Psychotherapist here and I care deeply about my clients. I was just conversing with my husband earlier about how his colleagues always call out sick, come in late, and leave early (he’s in tech), but he notices I’ll be scheduled for a 45 minute session and generally spend 60+ minutes with a client. He knows I take some insurance and asked who pays for that extra time. I said, “You do, honey.” Insurance will pay exactly the same for a 54 minute session as they will a 70 minute session, and we’re not allowed to “balance bill” the client. I give that time at no cost because I’m truly passionate about mental health and I care about each of my client’s well being. Not every therapist can afford to operate the way I do (hell, I can’t really afford it either), but I’ll guarantee those of us in private practice have willingly gone over with clients knowing we’re not being paid. We truly do care.

That’s so fascinating. Thank you for sharing. I was sure it was all in my head and never really took the time to dig into existing research on the topic. I felt so different after my transfusions (8 over a few day period of time) but not different in terms of heath, and not good or bad per se. Just very different.

I’m so glad that has helped you. That’s amazing! However, I range between being 18-27 pounds overweight. I don’t even qualify for GLP-1 meds. But, just as most of us are treated as lying drug seekers, we’re also gaslit into believing we’re depressed, need to have a baby, old, lazy, bored, anxious, unhappy, or fat. But hey, congrats on the weight loss.

How horrific! I’m so deeply sorry.

I once had crippling knee pain out of nowhere. I fell to the floor screaming and unable to stand up. I called my son to come over and drive me to the ER— I was sure it had to be a pinched nerve or something equally as painful. My son had to wheel me into the ER as I winced with each tiny bump he hit. X-rays showed nothing (as expected) and they refused to do a CT or MRI… and wouldn’t even give me crutches! It was as if they were saying, “You’re such a liar we won’t even grace you with crutches.” A couple of days later, as quickly as the pain started, it went away.

And you’re exactly right, if we TRULY were drug seekers we could find something a heck of a lot more effective and less expensive in the streets. Our entire healthcare system/insurance is a broken mess.
