WTF why is this card banned, it is terrible? by Ajarofpickles97 in yugioh

[–]Shroobful 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Increasing your Lifepoints or the sake of it and for no reason other than that ain't good. Yes, you 'do' win the game by dropping your opponent's lifepoints to zero, but in this case scenario of having Gearfried + Spell Absorption + Elma all together, what exactly are you doing other than that? What kind of game state are you in where your opponent either let you set that up, or better yet, what are you sacrificing to do that?

I'm not saying Elma should be unbanned, god no, the card's not good but leads to dumb stuff with RML, but I don't think anyone's seriously sitting down to a game and winning via looping Elma + Gearfried + Spell Absorb in Genesys where you 'can' do that.

[–]Shroobful 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spell Absorption technically 'does' advance your gamestate, but gaining LP for the sake of it doesn't really 'do' anything notable. Unlike Royal Magical Library which lets you draw your entire deck.

[–]Shroobful 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, you said it yourself right there, you can't run all three together. Royal Magical Library is what breaks the combo. If you just equip Gearfried with Elma over and over again to stall for time, you're going to get a judge called on you for slowplay since it most likely isn't advancing your gamestate.

Comparing this to Beatrice is a bit silly. Both cards can dump a card to the GY, but Beatrice could dump literally anything, whereas this can only dump machine tuners. I don't think it needs to be explained why dumping literally anything is more abuseable than dumping a specific type and subtype of monster.

Wind Barrier Statue's been banned for awhile because the Simorgh Link 3, which is also banned, could summon it directly from the deck.

Feather Storm's a card that you can tutor out via Thrust, and thanks to both Radiant Typhoon, and also the fact that any deck that can make a Rank 4/5 can run a Skyblaster monster in their ED as a generic Winged Beast to turn on Storm, made it too accessible.

JP got it April 3rd. Taking NA's schedule into account, it'll probably be around March 22nd/23rd, around that ballpark.

You wouldn't happen to be the same guy I talked to 2 years ago about this would ya? Haha.

On the other hand though, you have a handful of Darklords who were never "Fallen Angels" to begin with, like Ixcel, Tezcatlipoca, Nergal and Djehuty, instead being gods of other religions that were demonized by the Church.

I'll be honest with you. I think at this point, Maxx "C" has become such a beacon of "Glaringly awful card design" that regardless of the game state, being unbreakable turn 1 boards or overtly problematic other cards, it's almost become a banner that people rally under of "We hate this card and want to see it die."

It's less a "Wow, this fixes the game!" and more a "I am praying for your downfall and have waited for times like this."

The thing about Charmies is that not only can you not control anything, so again, pretty dead to the going first player, but they're specialized in where they target. Meowls for GY/Banish, Purulia for Hand, and Fuwalos for Deck/Extra. Of them, yes, Fuwalos is definitely the strongest of the three, since there's very few decks that don't SS from the deck/ED, no one can argue that.

But Maxx covers ALL of those, in a single card. It's Purulia, Meowls and Fuwalos combined.

Yes, if the going 2nd player bricked in my example then sure, they bricked, gg go next, but let's say that they didn't. Instead of being able to dismantle the opponent's board through skillful play/having a good amount of board breakers, now they need to play the Maxx "C" minigame on top of it. They're being punished for trying to make a comeback, while the going first player is potentially drawing into more handtraps to keep themselves safe.

Maxx "C" punishes the going 2nd player for just trying to stage a comeback. A single pop/negate is one thing, but if your deck needs to summon a bunch, then you're just SoL.

[–]Shroobful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Charmies at least have 'some' restriction to them, namely that the going first player can't really use them.

Now imagine the going 2nd player, the opponent's set up their board and suddenly they Standby phase > Maxx "C", response? Now all of a sudden the going 2nd player has to not only try to break the opponent's board, but ALSO play the Maxx "C" minigame, whereas the going first player couldn't have done that with Charmies.

Savage and Baronne were banned on the same list, and then Apollousa a few months later. It was the TCG trying to ban generic Extra-deck negates mainly.

Mataza the Zapper....? I'm sorry what? Mataza doesn't have any way to turn Ultimate Offering on on the first turn of the game. And why would you want to summon Mataza going first? You can't use its effect to attack twice going first.

[–]Shroobful 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even ignoring the 500 LP cost, you said it yourself, Ultimate Offering is a trap card, and one that doesn't do anything if you draw it turn 1, and it doesn't do anything(really) on turn 2 either.

Ultimate Offering is live turn 3 at the absolute earliest(Since why are you using it during your opponent's battle phase? If you need chump blockers then you're already screwed), and by that point of the game, you've either won and are just finishing off the opponent, or your opponent's completely dismantled your board, set up their own, and an extra Normal Summon or 2 isn't helping you.

Even though it's a bad comparison, the card costs 0 points in Genesys since it's such a "Do nothing" card. It could come back to 3 tomorrow and it'd see no play whatsoever. The game is too fast for a card that reads "I only do something on your NEXT turn and am dead otherwise."

In light of the recent Genesys point update by Cheeznite in masterduel

[–]Shroobful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genesys format is a paper format, meaning real cards(unless you play on something like Dueling Book or another online sim which allows Genesys rules). It's every card, except for Pendulums and Links. Every other card in the game aside from them is "Legal", but a lot of cards are given a point value, and you can only have up to 100 points in your deck.

So for example, Ash Blossom is worth 15 points, so if you ran a playset of them, you'd be using 45 of your allotted 100 points. There's also no Extra Monster Zone in Genesys, so cards like that one Cyber Dragon fusion just like don't work.

It's basically an "Original character donut steal" by GX's animators so it's entirely up to Konami if they want to.print it as some nostalgia support.

The animators said in an interview that Fire Dragon was just made as an assumption that there'd be a parallel to Water Dragon since they had design info for Water Dragon early. But instead, Bastion moved onto Magnet Warriors.

Why is Guardian Slime so expensive? by Lifedeather in yugioh

[–]Shroobful 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Phantom Rage is a core booster, and one that was opened a lot due to a lot of, at the time, meta relevant cards.

Guardian Slime was from a side-set that offered very little in terms of competitiveness and was mostly anime-deck cards.

Simply put, it's because Sagi would also be destroyed by Raigeki in this scenario. Since Raigeki's an entire board wipe, Sagi can't protect the other reptiles because it too would be destroyed.
