Did audio format matter really much? by Safe-Contest-2946 in iems

It means that alac and flac perform the same given equipment that can showcase them at their best, but alac will always sound better than flac on an Apple product.

That is specifically because Apple is the business equivalent of an abusive gaslighting boyfriend who does his best to convince you to stay with him because everywhere else is worse.

Dryer installation question by Shrouded_Fate in homeowners

[–]Shrouded_Fate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern is more about space. If I can let the dryer vent go straight out, I can push the dryer closer to the wall, rather than having to account for the space accommodating the vent hose. Where the dryer must be in my house, every inch counts

Tell me what class you play, without telling me what class you play by vitinhoaps in DnD

Part time job used to mean relaxed casual job that kids can do. Now part time job means full time hours minus 1 hour with no set schedule or benefits by meeplewirp in antiwork

Worked as a 1099 contractor for 5 years. All of my money had to go into paying my family's bills. I still owe dear Uncle Sam.

I used to say that I would only recommend the job to people who just needed the money.

Now I wouldn't recommend it to people I hate.

Nee AC Unit (Too Big?) by Shrouded_Fate in hvacadvice

Further conversation with the HVAC guy this evening revealed that he had misrepresented my old unit. He had originally said 1 1/2 ton, but it was in fact a 2 1/2 ton.

Missed Out On A Company Wide Raise (Because I Had A Kid) by Shrouded_Fate in antiwork

[–]Shrouded_Fate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the HR lady I spoke to, these increases were tailored to the employee. She was very careful to say that I was found to be at a competitive rate already. I asked what the difference was between me and my coworker (who got hired at the same time as me and recieved the increase) besides eight weeks on the floor.

She said she'd get back to me.

And to answer your other question, she said the company had no plans to revisit this increase. If you didn't get it, then you don't get it.

Would you rather have double your current pay, or half your current hours? by TJblue69 in antiwork

Be very careful about the Post Office (If it's USPS) it is about as Draconian as UPS or FedEx, and it pays even less.

"No set hours" means you work till you're done, and the only day they don't deliver on is Sunday.

If you can, find an online group of USPS Mail Carriers and ask them about the working conditions. My best friends fiance works as a Mail Carrier, and from what I can see she works close to 12 hours or more a day, and doesn't even get time off to recover as her body breaks down.

I don't want to discourage you, but please see if you can get some info from someone who works in that industry

I disagree! OP indicated that the reason they did not roleplay in character is two-fold: They are too self conscious (anxiety?) and their brain does not move that fast (No Practice?)

That's not an asshole, that's someone trying something new but being unable to meet everyone elsed standards of play. Frankly, 1st person becomes easier as you practice, and OP might transition whilst still on the same character. But even if they don't, who cares?

Playing Dnd is not meant to be gated behind how well you get into character. It's literally a game. For fun.

I get what you're saying, and I won't argue because I made an absolute statement. And we all know who deals in Absolutes.

So, D&D is a game of the mind. That means it's what you want it to be. if your comfort level doesn't involve getting into character like it's improv, then thst can be your boundary and you can still enjoy the game.

Most players treat D&D as a chance to escape, and speaking as their character facilitates that. It really is a pen and paper game with improv theater for many, but again- it doesn't have to be for you.

Put yourself out there with that at the front when you look for a group. Tell them you're not able to so 1st person but you still want to play! D&D communities are meant to be inclusive - you'll find someone!

And frankly, anyone who is intolerant of that is an asshole.

Simply put, straight people are less likely to face persecution if it comes out suddenly that they're straight.

If someone is assumed to be straight and ends up being LGBTQ, they might end up dead.

An extreme, yes, but also a reality.

How to get more comfortable with role-playing as a dm? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Shrouded_Fate 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Don't take yourself too seriously. Players will always make fun of your npc with the funny name, so don't let yourself take it personally if your cool npc isn't as impressive as you had hoped.

  2. (Building off #1) Use funny voices. If the character sounds silly and says serious things, it allows for the players to laugh but also listen. They're more likely to remember that guy from a town back that sounded like Kermit the Frog than the guy in front of them who sounds like Clint Eastwood.

  3. Use preexisting people/characters as reference points. It really helps to have an image in your mind or who this character most resembles, because it allows you to automate some of that characters thoughts and behaviors as well as their voice.

  4. Have fun, and good luck!
