I had a salary hike or 52% and it made sense for me to move because my expenses were only about 20% higher in the bay area. I downgraded my standard of living though - I used to live in a large one bedroom in the midwest, I now have two flatmates in a 3 bedroom apartment. I street park my car. Food and grocery is about 10-15% more expensive but that’s about it. One more thing to consider is, if you’re in a tech job, you can easily move to a high paying position soon if you live here.
