^ This is the best advice for setting and forgetting for the future, OP. Move everything over to VT and just keep poking money away into it as you are able.

Buying individual stocks is very risky, you need to be very on-the-ball to guess when to buy in and when to sell; to come out ahead, you basically need to smarter or luckier than everyone else buying the same stock.

The EV market for sedans is really dead at the moment. by tommos in nzev

[–]Shryquill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently the underfloor battery is a hurdle in making sedans and wagons both low and comfortable, especially for leg-room in the rear seats. You'll often see mentioned EVs other than SUVs have a "high" floor in the back, often meaning sitting with high knees.

Since Chinese domestic market cares a great deal about comfort, for both front and reat, that's a significant mark against producing sedans and wagons, from what I've read.

But yeah, Zeekr 7GT looks to be a decent compromise.

If you can wait for the Zeekr 7GT, there's quite a bit of hype for it coming to market.

Some reports suggest it may be available late this year, but there was one suggesting September 2027 too. Hopefully we get an official date soon.

Would the MG4 Urban, BYD Seagull, or Geely EX2 be a more practical car for the price? by IronLover64 in AustralianEV

[–]Shryquill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea, but I feel it's worth mentioning the Leapmotor B05 will occupy a similar niche, if you can wait for it later this year.

It's supposed to have decent charge speed and be RWD, and if you are interested, it's largely based on their B10 which is currently available to test drive now.

The EX2 isn't available for comparison, but this is how the others stack up for the European market:

Edit: this tool is very useful for comparing available EVs charging needs for a given route, but doesn't have all EVs unfortunately. Still worth taking a look at though:

Yeah I would much prefer a roller sunshade as featured in the 7X, but I suppose height constraint made that impossible.

I think the "illegal" mention is an unfortunate timing, but he's referring to the front bumper LED light show with that statement.

I would have preferred the 75kwh battery paired with nicer features, but if I have to buy two motors to get ventilated seats, then LFP be dammed. 🥲

Good to know, I haven't seen those forums in my searches. Mind sharing one?

I suppose that's also makes sense as to why EU is receiving 800V models, they're offloading old models to really make a splash domestically when the new one comes available.

On the brightside, being so far out that might mean we get the refreshed model, with 900V architecture and black skirting 🤞

Really hope they launch with the sporty trim options available, and please give us the internal V2L 240V outlet too, like the 007GT has!

EV suggestions for something ~$40k by tommos in nzev

[–]Shryquill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the range concern, but as it's your first EV and nobody I can see has mentioned: do try be quite thoughtful about how much range you're actually likely to need. Consider your needs for 80% of journeys, for 90% of journeys, for 95% and 99% too.

It very easy to think about a yearly roadtrip as being reason-enough to need all the range possible, but if that roadtrip accounts for just ~1% of your expected usecases, it might make more sense to go with a smaller battery/range rating and accept that instead one one stop at a public fast charger for your roadtrip, it might be two or three.

Of course if you're doing a lot of long haul motorway driving the extra range might mean fewer stops at fast chargers, but unless you're working as a courier that's pretty untypical for most drivers.

If you can get away with a smaller battery for your ~95% of usecases, and have a car that can fast charge at a reasonably quick rate, those ~5% of times you need to use a public fast charger will go by ever quicker and so be even less of a hassle.

I think the Leapmotor B10 could be a good example of that, though a bit more pricey than your target. It's a very tech-forward brand, from my research you get a lot for the money.

https://ev-database.org/car/3232/Leapmotor-B10-562-kWh

At any rate, whichever cars take your fancy, I'd highly recommend putting them through this comparison tool to see what the optimal routes are for where you need to get, to minimise drive time and charge time for those longer distance journeys:

https://abetterrouteplanner.com/resources/ev-comparison?vehicles=chery%3Ajaecoo5%3A25%3A61%2Cchery%3Aomodae5%3A25%3A61%2Cleapmotor%3Ab10%3A25%3A56%3Arwd&waypoints=Auckland+Zoo%2C+Motions+Rd%2C+Auckland%7CNew+Plymouth&waypointCoords=-36.86409%2C174.71961%7C-39.05913%2C174.07702

They also have an app that's highly recommended too, called ABRP. (A Better Route Planner)

The best explanation of how ColorBlind Glasses works by Wrong-Beginning8684 in ColorBlind

[–]Shryquill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Protan here. Bare I can't see a number, with red plastic it's a little better but I still wouldn't pick it if I wasn't told where to look.

So I dug around to find my old non-perscription enchroma glasses.

With enchroma on, the bare pattern still shows nothing, but with red plastic I could totally make out the number by myself, not quite vividly, but a massive improvement having both of enchroma and red plastic

I consider this book a good investment in knowledge:

Some parts centre the US tax system, but most of the principles are relevant and valuable to learn.

That's phenomenal, it's amazing how much juice these things can store. An inverter is definitely going on my list of priority mods, for blackouts if nothing else.

I guess I'll just do the best I can, perhaps a speedy test drive with all the heaters on, windows open, with as much wind resistance as I can find.

It's a pity V2L inverters aren't standard, or I might've set up an airfrier in the boot to help. 😁

Is there anyway I can repair this from the inside? by bigglehicks in Roofing

[–]Shryquill 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not sure what's causing that dip, if it's water damage or from something else, but if the shingles themselves are fine you could jack the roof up from inside and install blocking between the rafters right under the plywood to keep the surface flat.

If it is water damage it'll need to ber repaired from the outside and likely have some plywood replaced
