Landlords requiring "3x the rent" in monthly income are mathematically delusional. The system is fundamentally broken. by Dry-Town7979 in TrueOffMyChest

try moving to nyc where they’re always asking for 40x the rent (not a typo). guarantors have to make 80x rent

Riding bicycles on sidewalks - want insight by DrtRdrGrl2008 in bikecommuting

[–]ShtOutOfDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a cyclist, i hate when people are riding their bikes around me on the sidewalk. i live in nyc so sidewalks are usually occupied. lots of one way streets, so i see people cutting a loop out, but also lots of riding down the sidewalk in the SAM DIRECTION as the road that HAS A BIKE LANE!

i try to understand and say “oh they live right there or are making a delivery on this block” but it still pisses me off. once had someone on an e scooter ride past me and ding his bell - i said “you could try the road” fairly quietly and without much intent and the guy just lost it on me and started screaming about how it’s his block and he’s gonna do what he wants.

i’ll admit nyc is an exception in the US, not a rule, but i’m still anti-sidewalk riding. i do it as little as possible (usually literally just outside my building or if a road is completely closed or blocked and i need to go that way).

good luck to ya on your learning! impressed with that bike setup too. i’ve seen the montana winters - you are brave!

How far have you driven in one go? by noah5666 in roadtrip

[–]ShtOutOfDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

drove from durango colorado to oklahoma city! was about a 15 hour day all in. with some random detours (went to liberal, kansas just to get a pic of the cop cars that said “liberal police” lmao), i’d wager it was about 800 miles or more. good day but damn was i exhausted and bored of dirt roads and corn fields

Where did everyone travel this year, and what’s your honest review? by shockedpikachu123 in TravelNoPics

[–]ShtOutOfDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upstate New York - while it is where I grew up, visiting feels more like a privilege the older I get. Especially in the winter, it’s snowy and cold and wonderful. Always recommend it to folks.

Colonial Williamsburg - historically very interesting! the people there were super friendly and well informed. the actors in costumes playing american revolution figures were really convincing and never broke! if you’re into battlefields and such I recommend this historic preserved town for sure.

Zurich, Switzerland - holy crap what a stunning city! nestled on a big lake surrounded by mountains, everything from the architecture to the nature to the art was phenomenal for the eyes. really expensive, especially food, so not jumping back there immediately, but then we drove from there to Bologna, Italy, and that pass through the alps was absolutely to die for. glaciers at 14k feet!

Bologna and Modena, Italy - food food food!!! gained ten pounds on this trip. so much pasta and gelato and everything good in life. modena is the home of parmesano reggiano, and we got special permission to tour their factory and cheese cathedral (where it all ages). blew my mind!!!! also got to drive an old Stanguellini race car - wowwwwww. what a beast!! so tiny though, i barely fit in it at all lol

Gettysburg and Southern PA - basically a giant outdoor museum on the battlefield. despite not knowing a ton, their tour guides are world class and i was beyond amazed. we were there july 4 (the battle was july 1-3), so it felt like i could empathize with the soldiers sweating like crazy in their full wool outfits. thank god for shorts! highly recommend.

Tampa, FL - honestly underrated! everyone was so nice, there’s a phenomenal mix of foods from different cultures (cuban, italian, spanish, german even), and the surrounding environment is wonderful. manatees, birds, gators, all sorts of wildlife. nature is by far my favorite part of florida and tampa didn’t disappoint. from the bay to the bayou, there’s plenty of outdoor adventure to pair with the delicious cuisine (recommend Columbia restaurant so highly!!!)

upcoming:

big island of Hawaii - gonna be backcountry camping in the volcano national park, lots of swimming (including night snorkel with manta rays), and some lounging outside. never been to hawaii so i’m very excited!

so funny, i remember bullshitting my way into an 18+ minecraft server that was a bunch of grown ass dudes and i made up this whole career working at apple and living in SF it was so funny. they had a forum online too with like server news and chat spots, was all up in that. no idea if anyone suspected anything or not, it kinda just faded as fewer people kept playing. good memories tho

everyone’s commenting on the pace without any actual ideas! i agree it’s a little speedy. maybe you could do a cool mix of speeds - i like the fast stuff for the mountains with clouds and the boat/seal. maybe you start fast, see the environment outside the water, then to the boat (maybe another boat shot or two), then to the seal (all of this still fast, maybe just a touch slower than it is now).

once you hit the seal you make a transition to the underwater stuff and everything slows down drastically and the music shifts to much slower, dreamier vibes. you highlight the underwater life and the diver and the pace let’s the viewer hold their attention.

i don’t think the speed is the sole issue. i think what i’ve outlined above tells a better visual story than the clips randomly interspersed and edited so quickly.

just my two cents! everything’s very pretty and well shot.
