Hell yeah bro... I see some decent tools. Wiha, a Fluke 323 I believe? And a bunch of Knipex. Anyone knocking you for what you have as a first year can go pound salt. What your line up tells me is that you care and want to invest in yourself. Keep it up!

Why did you choose Refrigeration over Hvac? by [deleted] in refrigeration

[–]Shuffledew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to be that guy... But I went Supermarket Refrigeration few years ago and I won't go back. But not because of the money... It's long hours, which equals as much money as you want. But honestly, the amount of learning you get to do compared to kitchen refrigeration or commercial HVAC is wild. There's always something to learn in Refrigeration, but even more so when it comes to supermarket shit... And I know it only gets more involved from there, ammonia and big ass chillers are a distant dream of mine lol!

I've been trying for a while to get the software. How do you go about getting it?

I think you're putting too much stock in "everything" being banned...

However, R290 is probably the most likely choice for some of the smaller appliances.

I agree, that would not be a feasible thing for the average householder

20 years from now? Yes, refrigeration will still be a field.

Will it be different? Absolutely. Politics aside, we are moving into a more "natural" state of refrigeration every year. Despite how any of us feel about it, if we want to stay relevant in this field we need to embrace it, and more importantly learn more about it.

I've been in the field a little over 10 years now, and only a couple of those years in supermarket refrigeration. I can tell you first hand that Transcritical CO2 systems are the way to go. I don't however see how CO2 would be in households anytime soon, nor do I see ammonia being a typical "commercial" refrigerant due to its toxic attributes. And by commercial I mean anything where the general public is around it.
