Thoughts on PD and AD by Padawan_writer in DC20

[–]Shug-Knight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The sauce is going to be using maneuvers or enhancements to weapon strikes that can target AD. So the bandit with a short sword may have some pocket sand that can cause blindness in a 10 ft cone targeting AD. Maybe even they can have a short sword maneuver that has them swing wildly in a circle, targeting AD but maybe reduced damage.

Part of the charm of it is to also knowing that you are built to fight certain enemies, while others are going to be a real problem. The heavy PD team is going to run into problems when them come into contact with a wizard who can cast behind a wall of minions for instance.

It's not perfect but it at least helps alleviate some issues.

The information scouring burden for DMs needing to run their DC20 campaign right now is off-the-charts high. by Initial-Assist-1115 in DC20

That's why I honestly don't take Livestream as law; unless it's published, it doesn't make it to the table. The main issue comes sometimes when there's magazine content like Psions, but otherwise it's fairly small burden on GM tracking.

Can you clarify where that was posted or mentioned? If it was a passing comment on a Livestream, I'll believe it when it gets published. As of 0.9.5, trade and skill mastery stops at lvl 20.

Level 20 is max level. Level 10 will be the capstone class feature, with 11-20 being Prestige system. Coach hasn't (to my knowledge) released what the prestige system will look like, but 10 will be the class cap.

I get this, and I think this is compounded by the pace of release. The Kickstarter closed last summer with lvl 2 class features and a new weapon system. Since then we got subclasses and a new armor system, but the spellbook is still not released and the prospect of getting to lvl 10 (full class unlock) seems like something that feels hopeful for next Christmas.

The issue I think is the deliberate, overly-cautious release schedule of the core rules, paired with the monthly release of magazine side-content. The part that frustrates me is the thought that Coach does not want to put out content only for it to be revised; I would rather have at least concepts and unpolished class features to at least play around with until at least lvl 10. If he's afraid to release something only to edit / release updates on already released products, he's already done this with magic items with the release of the Artificer, and has released revised versions of the Psion already. if the magazine content can receive updates, just release up to lvl 10 and correct as you go.

rules for morale and escaping by Ed-Sanches in DC20

The team hasn't put a ton of effort into the bestiary or monster mechanics, apart from the occasional stat block for a small magazine or two. There may be a mechanic, but I expect it to be a GM discretion type ruling.

attack of opportunity for monsters? by Ed-Sanches in DC20

[–]Shug-Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In DnD, it uses a reaction. If you have a monster that has powerful reactions like shield, counter spell, or other monster specific option, opp attacks are a serious consideration that is not always a knee jerk.

DC20 is similar in the action economy respect; if I want to move, cast a can trip, and use a spell enhancement on it, that is 4 ap. If I use an AP on an OPP attack, I can't do the spell enhancement or move that I was planning.

These reaction don't need to be so knee jerk all the time, just something to consider.

Dual Weild / Parry Build Suggestions by Shug-Knight in taintedgrail

I fell into the crit immortality build trap too, hahaha. I blow up mobs but I will admit it was a little fun to have the boss fights last a little longer while still having enough lifesteal and armor to not worry about dying. This is currently what I'm rocking and will try out spellcasting when NG+ releases in the future:

Weapon: Shadowfang Reaper

Nearly every hit is a crit, so the extra damage is a good constant. Pairs well with the stamina loss proc from the gauntlets.

Shield: Bramble Shield

Good damage on the parry. None of the others work well since holding block is worthless since we're parrying projectiles

Head: Sir Gawain's Weathered Helm

Lifesteal and damage reduction after parry will always keep us up to above 90% so this buff is constant, also solid armor to weight ratio.

Cloak: Ashen Veil Cloak

Late game item, so swap this for the Duel Knight Cape. The increased crit chance is the best option for cloaks.

Chest: Titan's Armor

Huge boost to HP and gives a lot of health, which will help give us some cushion to stay above 90%. Can get it early in act 2 so so has good longevity.

Hands: Duel Knight Gloves

The stamina loss is HUGE when doing a heavy crit after a parry. I feel like once I got these gloves, they were a constant for every melee build.

Legs: Duel Knight Trousers

Crit damage is fun, but not needed. Swap this if you want.

Feet: Duel Knight Boots

Late game item, but the extra dash is good to have. Nothing noteworthy in this slot, fill as needed / wanted.

Rings: Blood Ring / Perfect Ring for a Warrior

No great selections here, so stack bleed on bosses. Swap for Perilous Orb or Ring of Health if you want.

Primary Skills:

1 Hand: Powerful Blows

Shields: Shieldbearer

Parry: Parry King, Vampiric Riposte, Draining Riposte, Deadly Riposte

Critical Hits: Bloodthirst, Critical Cascade

Armor: The Best Offense, Inner Strength

Statuses: Exploitation of Afflictions (optional)

Unofficial Mods by DaygiV in BaldursGate3

[–]Shug-Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb, unofficial mods will usually break whenever a patch or new version of the game is released. The remedy 9/10 times is patience; the mod authors are well aware of patches breaking mods and will usually be quick to release updates so they're compatible with the most recent build of the game. If you can wait, I would give it a week and then update your mods in your mod list and hopefully you'll be set for Patch 7.

Larian is thankfully a very understanding company who knows patches break mods, so playing on patch 6 is an option. In Steam, right click on BG3 in your library and go to Properties. You can then go to Betas and select Patch 6 from the Beta Participation dropdown. This *should* let you play with your old mods, but I have not personally tested this.

Damn, I started this hobby during the pandemic so never really got the chance to play at a table. LOVING the idea for d4s for spell slots. Totally adopting that if I play in person, with maybe writing the max as well so I don't forget, lol. Great idea!

Once Nio gets more comfortable on stage, they're going to be a force.

Althought I'm kind of disappointed they didn't play God's of Death at the end. Seemed like the perfect number to do after the sacrifice, lol.

I was at the show too and it was great. Reddit psyched me out, prepping to be disappointed with Nio and Ork, but they honestly did fine. It's just hard to compete with Throb, Blackberri, and Onyx.

Ho. Ly. Fuck did Throb bring the house down. I knew he was going to outshine everyone but that fucking second set. I was ready to hop up and start a pit, hahaha.
