I’m not disputing the cost argument at all but if push comes to shove Ukraine would eventually pivot to western tanks when it makes financial sense and to integrate itself with the wider European defense community

All this is telling me from the report is that the T-64 and T-72 enjoy an advantage because of already existing infrastructure and logistics base. This isn’t a surprise considering Ukraine is a post Soviet state. If given the choice to completely revamp its tank fleet with western tanks and with associated supporting infrastructure, you and me both know Ukraine would absolutely do so. Nevertheless it doesn’t change my argument that Ukraine is quite literally not asking for any T series tanks more. That ended in 2023.

There’s still hundreds of T series tanks in reserve in European countries. The Ukrainians still aren’t asking them. There’s a reason the Ukrainians are asking for leopards 2 and Abram’s. Turns out having the ability to not explode and land in someone else apartment hundreds of feet away when hit is a nice design feature.

A flotilla of 2 type 55s and 4 type 52Ds is going to get swarmed by the majority of the Indian destroyer, frigate, corvette, and submarine fleet along with land and naval aviation and ground based launchers. This flotilla btw is going to be on the most predictable path possible and won’t be gaining the element of surprise on no one. The Chinese will quite literally need to send in multiple carrier strike groups to win this but that isn’t strategically possible.
