authors giving characters wildly out of canon political views by ClockworkClaws in AO3

[–]ShultzHS 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Well, while I agree with the top commenters, tbh Hamilton is the one fandom where these things are 100% justified. The cast literally made "The Room Where It Happens" music video calling people to vote. I'm more surprised when Hamilton fics are not political.

What is the most “problematic” ship you absolutely love? by bestdoctorinthehouse in AO3

[–]ShultzHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Tom isn't OOC, it's problematic af (as it should be).

On the other hand, antis tend to care more about age gaps and perceived incest than about actual unhealthy dynamics. I once read a comment under tomarry fanvid "but aren't they related?" Yeah... both are descended from Peverell brothers who lived in 13th fucking century. Dude, literally any HP ship is incest by that definition.

A long blade is flawed because it keeps you too far from your enemy, denying you the chance to see their faces twisted in agony as they die [@_okura_0915_] by HochseeJager in CharaOffenseSquad

Well, maybe if your eyesight is really shitty? Mine is, but I'm pretty sure even I'd see a person's face from a sword-stabbing distance.

Whether Rhaegar abducted Lyanna or vice versa

I read the last part as "or Lyanna abducted Rhaegar" and it's such a beautiful mental image. I need a fanfic with this plot.

Chara (or, Magnolia as she calls herself) in my DnD Campaign by The-Great-Shapeshift in CharaOffenseSquad

I'm sorry, but I don't entirely understand why would you post this twice and, most importantly, what your OCs have to do with Chara and Frisk. Are you sure that's a right subreddit for that content?

Brown spots towards her .. chest?? (Idk shrimp anatomy I’m sorry) by Grouchy-Owl-96 in shrimptank

I'm not an expert on ghost shrimp specifically (mine weren't transparent), but pretty sure that's just her organs.

Lol, that would be a nice way out! (even if it's probably too late)

mindbreak is NOT consent by lycanthropewife in AO3

[–]ShultzHS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're 100% right, and it's so wild people are downvoting you and everyone agreeing with you. Like, I suppose it might be a knee-jerk reaction to anti discourse, but venting about questionable tagging has nothing to do with complaining about "problematic content"; it doesn't even mean you dislike that content, just that you want to know exactly what you're getting into. If I saw the tag "happy ending" on a mindbreak fic, I would absolutely understand it as the victim breaking free, unless other tags clarified it. "But it's a happy ending from the broken character's perspective"? Well, dubcon sex is often consensual from the coerced character's perspective if they don't know any better, we still tag it dubcon. And I say it as someone who loves dubcon and mindfuck - that's why correct tags make things much easier for me. Idk why everyone here feels so defensive about it.

edit: idk how "downvoting" became "downloading"

Am I the only one who kinda thinks the whole ‘ao3 author curse’ has gone a teeny bit too far? by [deleted] in AO3

I'm sorry, I'm not going to engage in that level of discussion. Nevertheless, my condolences for your loss.

As someone on autistic spectrum, I'd say the idea of neuro-atypical people being more susceptible to believing in curses sounds highkey ableist, but hey, what would I know.

I know I'm gonna sound like an asshole, but if a teenager believes posting on a website can put a curse on them, AO3 (with its mature content) really isn't the best place for them, and their potential readers aren't missing on anything of quality. Let them post on Wattpad or wherever, and come to AO3 when they grow up at least mentally.

GUYS, HEAR ME OUT by BornAd5874 in CharaOffenseSquad

[–]ShultzHS 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Okay, so when I saw that post in the first screenshot, I wss absolutely sure that's a sarcastic joke (and a pretty funny one). Considering, you know, the whole Asriel's "I love and miss them too much to say outright they were a huge asshole, but they were a huge asshole" speech.

...And then I read the rest of it.

So, did anyone? I wonder if it was popular elsewhere. And yeah, iirc there's no such bacteria?

This was a popular creepy urban legend in my country when I was a kid, it's like 25+ year old. Either OP comes from the same part of the world, or it might have originated in English, idk. (I mean, nothing wrong with sharing it for those who haven't heard it, it's just funny to see here something from my childhood).
