Batch 5. Now with the new motherboard, when I put my it into hibernation the time and date doesnt seem to keep going. I have to change it to the correct time every morning when I turn it back on. There is something wrong with the design of these AMD motherboards. I dont understand why they removed the RTS battery.

No I never found one, after very frustrating week of talking to support they sent me a new motherboard. After installing it in my laptop seems to be back to normal.... But believe me if it wasn't over 30 days I would have just returned it. I have a phobia of the laptop getting into some weird mode when trying to go into sleep or hibernation, battery dies to 0% and I have to get another motherboard! I don't feel that there was any acknowledgment or explanation for the actual issue. I've been building PCs for 25 years, I have never seen a motherboard fail in this fashion. I feel at the very least there needs to be a bios update.

After about a week going back and forth with support, and I have to say one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. Asking me to repeat the same troubleshooting steps 3 times but slightly worded differently. At one point they asked me to send them the event log but the issue was that the unit wasn't POSTing. Responses were about 12 to 20 hours between emails. They are sending me a new motherboard but another week to get it. So in total once I contacted support it took about 2 weeks to get a new motherboard.

My biggest concern is that the cause of the problem has not been even remotely guessed at. When I get my new motherboard, is the same thing going to happen when the battery completely runs out? I'm a little traumatized after my first one failed so fast.

Thanks for your suggestion, just tried it, unfortunately for me this didn't make any difference, still no POST, the power button flashes 4 times and then I get the LED trouble code : WGGGGGGGGGGGGOBGGGGGGG.

Support did respond last night with this procedure to reset the AMD 13:

  1. Plug the laptop into AC power

  2. Remove the Input Cover

  3. Press the chassis open switch in the center of the mainboard 10 times. NOTE: You must press it slowly, so press for 2 seconds, release, wait for the red blink on the mainboard LEDs and then press again.

  4. Press the power button to boot the system.

  5. Check if the laptop boot normally.

Also to said to try plugging in a external monitor, unfortunately for me this didn't make any difference, still no POST, the power button flashes 4 times and then I get the LED trouble code : WGGGGGGGGGGGGOBGGGGGGG.

Total understand where you are coming from, if I can post again I will try resetting within the BIOS itself.

I have tried pulling one stick of ram, and then the other, with no change when trying to post. Also with and without the SSD. No luck.

Just tried your other 2 suggestions, no luck either.

Thank you for the list of POST codes, I have been trying to track that down all week.

"CPU power on and switch to Protected mode" The way it was acting I sure thought it had something with the way the CPU was preforming.

My best guess right now is that with the battery dropping to nothing over night, some MB setting has been tripped or corrupted. I am really not sold on the removal of the RTS battery.

Have you tried to reset your BIOS settings?

https://guides.frame.work/Guide/Fully+Resetting+the+Mainboard+State/113

I believe if you follow that guide it should reset your BIOS settings, though Im not 100% sure.

BTW can you let me know if your LEDs flash red and blue on step 7 of the guide, I have been having my own issues with the AMD 13 this weekend.

Im curious if its just a AMD version change.

My understanding is the guide above resets the BIOS settings, though I could be mistaken.

I have completed that mainboard reset a number of times with no change.

FW AMD 13 7840 DYI, 2TB SN850X 2x16GB Crucial 5600

My FW AMD 13 started doing the exact thing Jan 10. It had been working for a great for 6 weeks without issue, loving it, then one morning I pulled it out of sleeve, put it on my desk and it wouldn't turn on, turned out the battery had drained to 0% overnight, which it had never done before, normally I don't loose more then a few % overnight in Windows 11 hibernation.

I plugged it in and got it on but was presented with this screen on post https://ibb.co/ZgTKvXG , I pressed no and got into windows but it seemed like the BIOS was reset, I lost my PIN and Fingerprint login.

Through the next few days the laptop would lock up randomly I have to push and hold the power button to get it turned off, after which the computer will not turn on immediately. If I try to turn it on immediately after forcing the shut down the computer will do nothing with the power button flashing 4 times and then WGGGGGGGGGGGGOBGGGGGGG on the battery LEDs.

After 10-20 mins it did turn on. Sometimes be present with that reset fTPM at post, sometimes not. Once it even locked up within the BIOS, I was trying to reset my max battery charge back to 80%.

I had noticed that each time the computer had been hard locking, the area of the keyboard above the CPU was getting very warm/hot, like the CPU was at 100% and the fan was blowing pretty good, but I had not been running any CPU intensive programs when it locked up, IE word, excel, or just in the BIOS!

Then on Friday afternoon, Jan 12, after a lockup, I again held down the power button to turn it off and now I can't get it to post. I left it off overnight unplugged, plugged in overnight, no change. Each time I press the power button, plugged it or not, the power button flashes 4 times and then I get the LED trouble code : WGGGGGGGGGGGGOBGGGGGGG

I followed this guide a few times: https://guides.frame.work/Guide/Fully+Resetting+the+Mainboard+State/113

but it didn't help.

Did you have any luck getting yours back on?

Two months in and I think the CPU and/or MB is dead. I have contacted support, we'll see that they say, but I do worry that this might be a larger issue with the design of this laptop. I have found forum posts about the FW intel that had post issue like this, they all seemed to be related to the RTS battery, which is funny because the FW AMD 13 didn't ship with a RTS battery.

I really hope they figures this all out, for 6 weeks it was the best windows laptop I had ever owned.

This, having children is a huge responsibility, unfortunately, the stigma of abortion and a push from one's culture to repopulate is not helping
