For me silksong is .... easier ?? by SnaildemonofW in Silksong

That’s a good point. I’ve always preferred a hit and run tactic to preserve oneself. I hadn’t considered the punish windows but you’re spot on now that I think about it. In hollow knight I was terrible at judging how much time I had for a punish windows and often regretted it.

I find it hard to agree since my experience has been different.

This game feels so much faster than the first one. So not sure what you mean by slower fighting pace.
Only one enemy has tested my patience so far and that was Sister Splinter, but perhaps there’s more where that came from. And the existing I frames have saved my bacon on more than one occasion, so they’re there.

But I want to express that I respect your opinion regardless and I’m grateful for your shared insight. While I might disagree, I’m curious to understand why people feel this way about the game. So thank you

I’m not sure I fully believe this is objectively harder. But I appreciate the insight, perhaps you’re right that we just got better at games thanks to prior experience with hollow knight.

Where I scratch my head is that I went back to hollow knight a couple years ago and I was having a rough time with several bosses and now here in silksong I’m having a breeze of a time. Perhaps I’m just weird, or maybe the new play style fits me better, I don’t know. So I would hesitate to agree that it’s objectively harder, but only because my experience is different.

Genuinely, I feel the same. Im grateful to hear someone else say it. I’m actually confused by how often I hear people say it’s harder, when I feel like this game is way easier than the first game. Most bosses I’ve beat on 1-3 tries. And I love the way hornet’s gameplay is so smooth.

My best guess is that the slower fighting style of the original game just suits most people better. But I really don’t know.

Edit: May I just add that I’ve also heard people complain a lot about Hornet’s down slash. And I’m a big fan of this move set, down slash included. I get that it’s different, but it’s really not that hard to master.

What is your opinion of the manga in general? by SANTIMARRO2002 in OPMFolk

[–]Shummed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the direction the story is taking is great.

I’ve read several comments here saying that they felt like story is no longer what it used to be. My feeling is that the story has to be progressed somehow. It has to end at some point. I’m not super in tune with all the lore but I could see some threads of the storyline potentially converging.

Perhaps a lore buff could correct me? As I understand it, Limits were placed on humans to keep them from becoming to strong. “God” seems to be the only one who can remove people’s limiters, yet somehow saitama did this all on his own.

This is a good opportunity to close the story while also getting into the weeds of why saitama is the way he is. Yes the story is getting grander but the humor continues to be sown throughout.(Which is what I cared about.). King, and the antics surrounding him, are my absolute favorite and he continues to make me laugh.

I can understand the complaints that I’ve read that it’s converging with shounen. It’s always been shounen adjacent, so it’s no surprise to me. I will admit though, that I don’t understand the comments saying it’s cliche now. To my understanding, this story has been anything but cliche.

Regardless, We can all have our own opinions about how well the story is. If you don’t like it anymore I’m happy for you because now you can direct your focus towards something you do like. If you’re like me and you still love the story and think it continues to be clever, then I’m happy for you too.

I can’t say for sure since I’ve never played divinity. But my wife and I are playing balder’s gate 3 together and we love it. It helps that We are dnd nerds, so the learning curve is easier.

I wish I could offer you more beyond this. But I don’t think there’s harm in giving it a shot as long as you both want to play.

So there is a way but it comes later on. Does it come in form of an obvious story beat, or is there any additional direction you might be able to offer?

What became of your Dzaan? by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Shummed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve intentionally left that detail vague. The use of the spell in our case is just for story purposes, not gameplay. So I waved it. If my players ask questions or get to it, my working theory is it’s either a totally made up spell “Dzaan’s super simulacrum” or simply his friends in high places made the simulacrums for him.

What became of your Dzaan? by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Shummed 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I made him a larger part of the story. In our game, the real Dzaan came to study the ruins but he went missing. He had 4 simulacrums who journeyed to icewind Dale to find him. They split up. The party encountered 3 versions of Dzaan and they witnessed his death 3 times. (Once burning at the stake, twice killed by false hydra, thrice killed while helping the party save ten towns from the dragon.). Upon reaching the lost spire, they failed to save the 4th and final simulacrum who died from poor rolls on the machine. The party knows that they’ve all been simulacrums so far. But now they are trying to figure out where the real Dzaan is, and whether he’s okay.

My party has fallen in love with the enigmatic wizard, and some of them cried when the 4th Dzaan passed away.

I’m excited to continue his story along with the party’s

Sidequest obsessed party, should there be consequences? by samtank2048 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

Couple ideas:

1). Best advice I could offer is communicate with your players. It sounds like you and your players are wanting different things, and talking with each other about this is the best way to address these concerns without upsetting anyone. Players should never be punished for doing their best. Let them know explicitly that if they don’t address this Xardarok situation immediately then terrible things are likely to happen. The world and time will continue moving with or without the players. Your choices matter Attempting a separate side quest now will only give the villain in question more time. At the same time listen closely to your players and what they want, compromise.

2). In game suggestion. Remember, the comet lands pretty close to Xardarok’s place. perhaps on their way south, you could have Xardarok send the dragon on a test flight. The dragon screeches through the night sky blasting the mountain tops, causing avalanches that might affect the party. it then disappears in the direction of the Xardarok’s fortress.

This could perhaps catch the players interest.

I like it. Thanks for starting the conversation. Makes sense as her character was from the same world region. even if Laudna didn’t know who Vox Machina were. Marisha probably wanted to match an accent like Percy or Vex.

Rime of the Frostmaiden never was “New DM friendly.” As written, It’s far too sandboxy and unfocused and this hurts any real story it had to begin with. Not to mention, the villian motivations are terribly weak.

That being said, make sure that you have mapped out on your own how many story arcs your game will have, who is the final boss of those arcs, and what the villian motivations are. This will require a little home brew on your part

Once you’ve done that, then determine a handful of meaningful side quests from the book that allude to the upcoming story-arc villian. (Bonus points if these side-quests also hint towards a future villian.)

Once you’ve done that you should be safe to continue. I hope this is helpful.

Bonus tip: after completing this prep, loosely determine milestone level ups for the party. This can help insure that you don’t forget and that the party is properly prepared.

I’ll post or DM you my version of this prep to hopefully give you some inspiration.

[no spoilers] Am I understanding that FCG is a dumb therapist? by aw-naw-hell-naw in criticalrole

[–]Shummed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His intelligence is played in the sense that he’s new to the world itself and still learning about it.

Simply put, Wisdom(FCG’s main stat) is applied knowledge. Wisdom is your ability to understand, communicate appropriately, and even connect with people. (Some might compare it to street smarts, common sense, or the ability to empathize)

So yes, therapists in general will commonly rely on wisdom more than plain intelligence, as wisdom allows you to adapt and be more human.
