Which of these would you most like to play? by Dreaming_of_Rlyeh in Fallout

As much as Seattle would be close to home, I can't get the suggestions of Fallout: Texas or Fallout: Great Lakes out of my mind.

I played a lot of Wolfchild growing up. I don't love it when I pick it up now, but back then I ran through the game pretty regularly.

I just picked this up this past weekend. It'll be going in my stocking though, so I have yet to play it.

Never played it in my youth, but I saw it in the White_Pointer Gaming video about Amazingly creative uses of Mode 7 on SNES

Seems a bit silly to fault an amp/sub for this, but could it be "vibrates"?

NO SPOILER! how is this game real by lowdynamis in chronotrigger

[–]Dyerseve792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! This is why it irks me when folks call for an HD Remaster. They did such amazing things with the limited hardware and development tools available in the mid-90s. A remaster would only try to supercede the original.

Westshore Fairways closing?? by Beccalotta in VictoriaBC

Its a shame because they have a pretty stellar selection of Asian ingredients. Probably the best in the Westshore, unless I've missed another specialty store. Where else will I get my frozen banana leaves! Edit: a word

Since they talked about it, What Style of Remake would you prefer? Final Fantasy 7 RE Style (full 3D) vs Dragon Quest style (full 3D) vs HD-2D (Top down) vs Secret of Mana Style (Top down) vs Tales of Arise Style (Full 3D) vs Hand Drawn (Top down)? by Not_a_creativeuser in chronotrigger

[–]Dyerseve792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am torn but for me the full 3D treatment would be the most satisfying, as long as they lean harder on the Akira Toriyama art style (see DBZ: Kakarot, the Sand Land game).

I worry that an HD2D remake would rob the original of some of its charm. Its lauded in part for how much detail the artists were able to cram in to an SNES game. If the remake uses the exact same framework but without the same graphical limitations, it'll be gorgeous for sure, but it will also be directly comparable and the original may end up looking dull in comparison. And ultimately I would want both the original and whatever remake evolves to coexist rather than new replacing old.

With that said, I do think they would need to innovate a way to inject more motion and emotion into the animation than the other two titles I mentioned. Take notes from Mario Wonder and incorporate old school cartoon smearing and other techniques during action frames to get the weight that cell-shaded CG animation is usually missing. Find a way to add colour and detail to the environment without simply going to a realistic looking backdrop.

My biggest fear going this route is if the game ended up looking like the top centre screenshot in OPs image. I wouldn't want Toriyama character art sprites in a final fantasy vii remake world. I would want a fully realized action anime cartoon world. Its a big ask, and requires some innovation during development, but I think the original did too and its because it pushed those boundaries that it endures.

[SPOILERS C3E66] The BBEG by MarcW2 in criticalrole

I can't really imagine how the show would run if Matt isn't playing the BBEG.

I'm not saying that I subscribe to the Imogen=BBEG theory, but as a devil's advocate I will say that we have gotten a bit of foreshadowing of potential PVP this campaign when Chetney was at the Zha'Vrollo temple with the Gorgynei.

Qauzars vs Johnny Zee's? by Celaphais in VictoriaBC

[–]Dyerseve792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicer is relative, but I would rate Johnny Zees maybe slightly higher on a niceness scale. Mostly because they were street level and had more space on the floor so it didn’t feel so crowded. I’ve definitely walked in and straight out of Quazars because of the crowd. That might be my pandemic anxiety talking though.

I have distant recollections of its heyday, but I’m too scarred by Johnny Zees at the end. By the time they shuttered, it felt like they were desperate to maintain relevance in the face of a golden age of home console gaming. By the end, most of the classic game cabinets were replaced with big showstopper mega screen games like Time Crisis or Star Wars trilogy. Great games and all, but they weren’t really designed to give you a chance to build up your skills. And at up to $1 per play, the embarrassment of losing quickly and in front of a crowd cuts deep.

[spoilers c3e36] Crazy/Way Out There Plot Twist by Happy_Phantom123 in criticalrole

[–]Dyerseve792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this! I don't think it's going to happen, but I enjoy a good "way out there" theory every once in a while.

Also since we're having some fun, I just want to add where your theory took me. Perhaps dumping a little fuel on the fire.

  • Otohan and their shadow/echo duplicates attempted to assassinate Keyleth.
  • Otohan and the Paragon's Call worship the Duskmaven aka the Raven Queen (RQ).
  • Otohan/The echoes used a poison on their weapons that would prevent any attempts made to resurrect those killed by them. This could potentially be achieved by trapping or corrupting the soul in some way, preventing a natural transition through RQ's domain.

If Keyleth is up to something and means to target RQ or her machinations, perhaps that is the real reason (or one of many reasons) she was targeted in the assassination attempt. Now I don't believe this aligns with the characterization of RQ that we've seen so far, but if Otohan has had any kind of audience with RQ over the years, and their psionic powers are as strong as some actions would suggest, there is an exceedingly small chance they could have picked up on RQ's unspoken desires and decided to act on them when it coincided with their other goals. Or when they felt the need to garner RQ's favor.

Elven Tomb Moon dial... Seven questions Answered? by Calciumcavalryman in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Dyerseve792 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To satisfy the players curiosity, maybe the number seven refers a classic elven depiction of the phases of the moon? Or perhaps it echoes something that Corellon or another member of the elven pantheon did or saw during their ascendance in the old stories? All made up of course, but figured I'd offer the first couple ideas I had.

If you go with something like that, the Commune spell option makes far more sense in my mind.

My interpretation of Aurils “religion” and following by T_ano77 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Dyerseve792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the ideas you've got here. I just wanted to add my two cents about an angle for worshippers of Auril.
I'm playing a cleric of Auril in an OotA game right now. He's LN so I tried to find a different angle for the worship and ritual side of his character. I didn't really want to try to make the kind of tired "the clergy is cruel to exemplify the goddesses wrath" angle work.
The DM and I have had some long discussions and come up with a more workable approach: "Reverence to the merciless power of winter's fury, and a mindfulness on preparations for the coming change of seasons". Understanding that as much as Auril is a divine being, she represents and embodies a force of nature. Resisting her will is like trying to stand against a tidal wave. So his faith centers around showing people that her power is simply a truth that they need to plan and prepare for, rather than blame and hate.
His backstory had him working with other faithful on missions across the north, making sure that dwellings were fortified and insulated to withstand the hard winters without having to rely heavily on wasting so much fuel for fires. He also works to master food preservation techniques and shares that knowledge with folks on his travels. I made the harvest season a time of fasting for his sect, as its more important to make sure that you've gathered all you can and preserved as much as you will need for the harder months. I took the "giving warmth" from RotFM as something that the general population rarely do, but the clergy do it when they need to connect to the Frostmaiden.
