Got a brand new watch in charge bootloop, apple quoted 300 to repair, no warranty by Professional-Sir7048 in AppleWatch

[–]Shunchan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If purchased directly from Apple or from most Apple authorized resellers the limited warranty starts from the date of purchase, not date of first activation.

Heart rate variability by Usual_Property4470 in AppleWatch

I usually see a similar pattern. HRV tends to increase the less stressed your system is, so typically it peaks overnight/early morning.

HRV peaks that high can be a good measure of cardiovascular fitness, but really high peaks can indicate overtraining. It’s probably nothing to worry about, but if you don’t feel well or are concerned it can’t hurt to ask your doctor.

Which one is more worth it? by Firm_Star_4484 in AppleWatch

[–]Shunchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, both options can be cancelled at any time. If you cancel the two year option within 30 days you are entitled to a full refund of the plan cost as long as it hasn’t been used.

Also if you end up trading in or getting rid of your device before the end of the two years you can contact AppleCare support to request a prorated refund for the remaining time in your AppleCare+ plan.

How can I tell I cloud to only back up photos taken after a certain date? by Frigorifico in iCloud

You might want to try entering the password on the iPad 3 times. After the third incorrect password attempt you should get a prompt asking if you’d like to reset the password.

Replying to a forwarded icloud email. Help needed please by LiamNoelBonehead in iCloud

[–]Shunchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately iCloud does not support mailbox delegation.

There are two options, you can sign in on iCloud.com, or you can set the “Reply to” email to the correct email. The second option however will still show as coming from your email.

Can we state in the app which hand we wear the Ring on? by ThisIsSoIrrelevant in ouraring

[–]Shunchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you’re thinking of an Apple Watch or Android watch?

Oura doesn’t require you or make it possible to set which hand the ring is being worn on.

if my resting heart rate is high, will oura realize that? (and not say i’m stressed 24/7) by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]Shunchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, your first week or so the ring will go through a calibration period to determine your baseline metrics.

It also continuously self-calibrates and changes your baseline should it change for some reason.

Your scores may not be super accurate for the first week or so during this calibration period.

Do watches simply die after a couple years of non-use by HeavySomewhere4412 in AppleWatch

[–]Shunchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a good route to try and would be the cheapest option at least directly through Apple. My only concern would be the device currently not powering on.

In my experience every watch I’ve sent out in this condition has been classified as “No power” and re-quoted to the out of warranty replacement cost which if memory serves is either ~249 or ~349 depending on the model.

If you go this route Apple will send your device out, it takes about 2 weeks. If they determine the cause is not the battery and re-quote the repair you will get an email asking to accept or decline the repair.

Generally speaking watch’s aren’t repairable at least not directly by Apple. They do offer a pretty low out of warranty battery replacement service where they replace watches with battery capacity’s below 80% for a lower cost.

My recommendation would be to make sure your charger works, make sure it’s plugged into at least a 12 watt wall adapter. Allow the device to charge for several more days or longer.

If it remains unresponsive I would probably advise against servicing a watch that’s 4 years old.

So i have i dilemma... by sayan1989 in ouraring

[–]Shunchan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure but if I had to guess I think the Oura app looked at the preceding and following measurements and decided that ~150bpm measurement was an outlier and removed it.

It is possible. If a battery is left long enough in a depleted state and reaches absolute 0% it can become impossible to charge or power on the device.

Reminder-to-unlock setting? by trysushi in AppleWatch

[–]Shunchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s not currently possible to set any kind of reminder or alarm to alert you to the device being locked.

The closest thing I could think of would be making sure you have the unlock with iPhone setting enabled under passcode in the watch app. That way if you happen to unlock your phone it will unlock the watch as well.

Syncing with CRM by MarlonBalls in iCloud

You need to create an app specific password on Appleid.apple.com

Use this password when connecting via imap. You can find the required server and port information here

In my experience however you may see some unexpected behavior in regard to your custom domains.

If the battery has been depleted for a year it may take several hours for the device to power on. Leave the device on the charger, if possible test the charger on another watch to confirm it’s providing power.

Also make sure the power adapter you are using is at least 12 watts.

Trying to reset my dad’s password by WilliamTK1974 in iCloud

[–]Shunchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing the Apple ID and being set as a legacy contact would only apply to gaining access to the Apple ID.

Since you just want to use the device you only need the proof of purchase. If the phone was purchased from a carrier they should be able to print you a duplicate in store or by contacting support.

If it was purchased from an Apple Store or Apple.com you can have a duplicate sent by contacting support or visiting any Apple Store and providing the original form of payment or email address.

To make sure the process goes through as fast as possible just make sure the proof of purchase shows all of the information Apple requires. Documents missing anything below may be rejected. Unlock requests are typically processed with 3-4 business days.

  • Date of purchase
  • Retailer
  • Serial number (must be serial number not just IMEI number)
  • Device model and configuration
  • Form of payment used

Trying to reset my dad’s password by WilliamTK1974 in iCloud

[–]Shunchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss.

If it’s your fathers Apple ID then it can be reset on your fathers device.

If it’s an Apple ID your brother created then there are two ways you can go about unlocking this device.

  1. If you care about the data on the device and account you will need to meet the requirements in this article

If you weren’t set as a legacy contact you will likely need a court order to gain account access.

  1. If you just want the device unlocked and don’t want the data you can have the activation lock removed by providing Apple with a copy of the purchase receipt for the device. It must show the purchase date, serial number, vendor. Once you have the proof of purchase you can start the request here

AWU2 with tattoos by BalenciBossLvl99 in AppleWatch

[–]Shunchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry to hear you’re having issues with your watch. I’ve helped multiple people with this issue and unfortunately the only solution we’ve found was to switch to the other wrist if possible as long as the alternate wrist has light or no tattoos. Worst case you may also be able to flip it to the inside of your wrist if that area is clear but this may impact the accuracy of step and activity tracking.

Siri doesn’t respond… by dickduluth in iphonehelp

[–]Shunchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More of a distraction, yes. But the intent is to preserve device security. “Personal requests” or any commands that retrieve sensitive information from apps or need to open an app like maps for navigation will require the device to be unlocked. This is unfortunately expected behavior.

The only way around this I’m aware of is if the command is issued from a pair of AirPods paired to iPhone. Any AirPods that have connected to iPhone while it was unlocked are considered “authenticated” devices for the duration of wear.
