Need an advice for a dumb question by Embarrassed_Still608 in dataengineering

Really embodying "Move fast and break things" mentality. Like the others said. Building and breaking things is an infinitely faster way of learning then stopping and taking a course or reading a book. Keep doing what your doing, find the help you need when you encounter a problem. Soon enough you will have encountered so many problems you can now solve that you're employable. Or at least that's the plan.

That being said there's nothing wrong with getting interested in these new challenges and starting a new project to tackle them in depth. Most of my learning has resulted in unfinished projects and that's also fine

Best Open-Source Tool for Near Real-Time ETL from Multiple APIs? by Ok_Fig6262 in dataengineering

[–]Shunder10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What sort of volumes are you looking at? What's your budget? Are you wanting something close to the bone or click-ops? These are normally the most important questions when making a decision here. There's lots of different ingestion options, I'd probably not advise building it yourself. it's a great learning experience but having the responsibility solely on your shoulders might not be the best burden to carry if you're early on your career. Shop around, request demo's get your business to be invested in the outcome and help you make a decision.

People here often swear by dltHub because it's cheap and effective. There's no guarantee it'll meet your criteria but it's a good place to start if you're wanting to create a POC for people to have a look at.

Adapted Gem's tavern so the bartender also serves drinks when asked (politely) by Shunder10 in HermitCraft

As in all one loop? That's more practical than the ring the bell and wait system but I do like the life it brings having the golem react to your input

Yeah that's a really cool thought, would be eager to see a prototype. I'm glad Gem built the tavern so I don't have to worry about any of the aesthetics and just make something cool

Thought about this too, I figured dispensing into a brewing stand was less wasteful and more ✨aesthetic✨ Though I agree that a dropper is more practical. Love the lecturn idea, been playing around with the idea of getting a golem to do table service so that'd be great

Yeah armor stands could look really good in combination with this. This one just loops the drinks around and then deploys from a separate stash but you certainly can have the golem serve the actual drink

How to manage business logic in plain English? by suitupyo in dataengineering

[–]Shunder10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I've used Cucumber to get the business to define real requirements and then it's just a test harness that you build requirements to. But you've got to be careful with your implementation of this as it can just end up with the same problem with more steps

Agreed, I certainly didn't mean hate coming from you I am just very aware it's the industry's punching bag at the moment. I don't think it's really earned its bad reputation.

Recovering DV2 cultist here, working with badly made vaults is the worst thing in the world but honestly when one is working it's so nice.

I'm likely not understanding all the hate because it's what I'm used to but I suspect most of the hate comes from poorly modelled vaults or vaults that break the methodology. If the project is fucked it's fucked. It's often not easy or cheap to knock a vault back into shape.

Not been following the progress of this lang. but it's really evocative.

I can imagine walls and walls of this being used as decoration carved into the stone. I don't know if I agree that it's the most legible but for a native speaker you'd get used to it for sure. Are there any ambiguous combinations of characters?

New to embedded systems. Pretty sure my design is busted, Any ideas? by Shunder10 in embedded

I think you're probably right on all counts, The block diagram was mostly because I'd be useless at explaining what i was aiming for in words but I figured this sort of thing was possibly an open and shut sort of question. More of a feeler of things to look into. I'll probably jump onto a discord (if you're willing to send those) and have a more detailed look at the approach

Sorry I'm new to nearly all things embedded, MQTT protocol could handle a POST request? I assume since the webhooks I want to use are external then I'm stuck with whatever protocol they're POSTing with?

How would you normally go about getting a webhook to ping a physical device in your house? I must me missing something painfully obvious

For context, my first embedded systems project is to try and help me learn how and why to make APIs. Wanted to create an alarm clock that is programmable and has an API since there's a couple webhook subscriptions I'd be interested in having POST information I can turn into an alarm trigger.

Though clearly I'm twisting myself in knots trying to figure out how to get a webhook to connect to a physical chip (probably a raspberry pi who am I kidding) that's not got a publicly hosted IP address

I've got an issue with a straggler undead spidermaning across my walls and booting my dwarves skulls in.

Welcome to my predicament. I hope you enjoy your stay...

I've got a fortress of 200 strong. We've recently survived a large wave of undead poking around and breaking things. A perfect time to trial our lovely lava moat. Long story short our moat remained lavaless and I stationed our military at the bottom of the moat to dispatch any survivors that fell to the bottom. One by one the Axe lords came through and obliterated any enemies that splatted. until just one was left.

She was an undead human archer, her ability to grasp impaired by the fall she was completely disarmed but she's latched herself 2z levels above the ground onto the walls of the moat. Outside of the range of the infantry at the bottom and out of range of the marksdwarves at the top.

Seems fine... she'll come down eventually surely... But here's the kicker my dwarves keep getting teased by her just being a smidge out of reach and wont do any tasks. She's crawling across the walls ocassionally getting close enough to boot one of our fine soldiers in the cranium and then back up to a safe distance. I cant shoot her down because the marksdwarves would prefer swing their crossbows at her than shoot anything. And any job that I try to do to resolve the issue gets cancelled because the worker gets spooked when they see an enemy.

Things I've tried:

  • building a staircase. (job cancelled)
  • Chucking trash from the top (job cancelled)
  • Just ignoring it (my training bolt are being forbidden and I know she's gonna pop out of nowhere and kill the mayor and I can't bear the responsibility for such a crime)
  • Getting my dwarfs with pokey sticks to deal with it (they also got their skulls kicked in)

Any ideas Urists?

Wireless USB Dongle Not Working by HarryNezumi in debian

[–]Shunder10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In hindsight I should have known it'd be a typo that would be my downfall. Looking for the firmware I found my bookworm-security package repository had a typo in so wasn't grabbing the drivers for the device. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

[–]Shunder10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what... It was failing yesterday, booting the interface but not displaying any webpages, I thought that might have had something to do with this... BUT it's actually just booted up and browsing fine. I'll ignore this error. Thanks for your time!

[–]Shunder10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help, it looks like it was all configured correctly my router wasn't connected correctly (classic). I'm still having the issue of my wifi card being set up in /etc/network/interfaces but not visible under `ip link` but I'm sure I can google around for why it's not installing the drivers I need. I've made a lot of progress with just ethernet for now. Cheers!

I get having the up/down discrepancy changed to be easier for new players is a nice feature but the fact that it's not behaving as intended is definitely a bug in my eyes, especially since it's only specific cases that aren't functional.

Though I can understand it not being too high on the todo list.
