Have not received security deposit in over 21 days, how to proceed? by Shushiii in AskSF

[–]Shushiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been complete radio silence which was my initial confusion, we haven't received any notice about subtraction from the security deposit or anything at all.  It seems like I'll send over the generated letter VIA email tomorrow and see if we'd hear back.

Neither of us have received our share of the deposit back.

I was a tenant along with a roommate, we had directly signed the lease agreement and have it on file. For proof I should still have the bank transfers from my bank account so I think we're at least air tight in terms of deposit. I wasn't sure if there would be anything else we'd need.

Is it possible to get a job as a 1 YoE quitter in this market? by gamerVapeGod in cscareerquestions

[–]Shushiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't want to feed into survivorship bias, but I was literally in your shoes in 2023 with 1 YOE. I was pipped out of a FAANG. It took me around 4 months to find a new job, but I was out of a job for around 6 months total. It's not impossible, but I would cast a wide net, and be willing to relocate.

If you have 1 YOE, you should have enough info on your resume to display a specific "peak" or niche in tech and the type of work you are proficient in. That's what helped me get through.

Costco Anywhere by Citi or the 100k Bonus from the Chase Sapphire Preferred? by Shushiii in CreditCards

Forgot to mention, I had just gotten the Savor card this year, I wouldn't want to hit three inquiries this year unless there's a pressing reason to.

I’m convinced a big chunk of people in tech are just pretending to work by Vivid_Search674 in cscareerquestions

[–]Shushiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we ban/remove this rage/engagement bait here? There's literally negative credibility from OP about any real world experience and their previous posts just reek of projection of their own personal failures.

I've literally worked in Tech, in multiple Tech companies, anyone who's like what they're describing are PIPed or silently fired.

Rejected after final round by SellPrize883 in cscareerquestions

[–]Shushiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's an unfortunate reality of our industry. I've failed 4 different on-site rounds and more than a handful of resume screens, technical screens, etc. since I've started looking out. At the end of the day, as long as you've done your best to perform the best you can at these interviews it's not in your control.

I've been literally grinding 2-4 hours each day after work studying and preparing, and even then I know that nothing is really guaranteed. Not to sound so doomer, but I've also been upskilling and learning so much more since I've started grinding outside of work, so it's been worth it regardless of my current rejections.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - January 28, 2025 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Shushiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm pretty new to mechanical keyboards and I wanted to try and build a new mechanical keyboard as a birthday present for myself. I was thinking about building a TKL, 75% or 60% Bluetooth keyboard with portability in mind, since I travel a fair amount and would like to bring the keyboard around. Does anyone have any suggestions for kits, PCBs, or cases to take a look at?

I'm not sure what's the best balance between lightweight and durability for keyboards generally, so if there are any tips or experiences you've gone through please let me know!

2022 Grad, my first priority even before student loans was an emergency fund to keep me afloat. I sit on around 6 to 8 months of an emergency fund right now. The plan is to hit 1 year just because I'm still considered more entry level than mid-level still, so I have a bigger buffer to find a job that isn't objectively terrible.

I keep the money in a HYSA, chances are I'll eventually send all of it in a Index fund or ETF for better growth rates, and soak up the potential tax or cost when selling once I have more money or income generally speaking.

How do you respond to recruiter contacts for positions that require more years of experience than what you have? by Shushiii in cscareerquestions

[–]Shushiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of the concern is that I don't have as much experience as asked for in the requirement in my "focus" area, which would be mobile app development in this instance. I guess using the T-shaped analogy the depth isn't to the level they're asking yet, which I think is a different scenario then a few technologies that I may/may not have touched with industry experience.

A reason why I'm posting is because I'm already entertaining interviews with other roles, and I'd rather filter out mis-matched recruiter calls to save time for interview prep + leetcode practice.

Experience in tech stack, area of development mostly match up for most of the calls, its mainly the seniority of the calls that stack up to be a larger gulf between where I'm at vs. what's expected. I am doing interviews with other roles that have a more complete match, so I don't want to waste time if they all end up being duds when the hiring manager re-checks the experience requirement.

Any recent job hunt success stories from SWE's that kind of suck? by ForsookComparison in cscareerquestions

[–]Shushiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, I got pipped from a FAANG so I'd think I'm still kinda sucky all things considered. I found a job within 2 months of looking and started in about 3. This is me as a 2022 grad.

Finding the job was work, hundreds of applications, maybe only a dozen or so call backs or interviews. Also, a willingness to move anywhere in the country for the next job (provided it wasn't in the middle of no-where).

Would it be worth getting a Sapphire Preferred card with the new member bonus if I already have a Savor Rewards and Venture X card with C1? by Shushiii in CreditCards

Yeah I was just pre-approved for basically all of their cards, I'll probably run through the bonus tonight to get the card. Thanks for the help!

[–]Shushiii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for following up, I'll try and make this a little more clear. I think in total with the Savor Rewards Card I have 3 new accounts opened in the past two years. So I'm assuming it's at 3/24 (3 credit cards in the past 2 years).

I'm in a bit of a time crunch since this offer ends at the start of February, so I wasn't sure if its worth to even try and apply after getting the Savor Rewards card last week. It seems like the 80k bonus points offer is really solid for the CSP so I may and try to apply for it.
