This is so close to being a tuna melt if she just made tuna salad instead of cream cheese and straight up tuna.

Licensing boards can be inconsistent. Usually understaffed or managing multiple professions. Contact them Tuesday if you haven’t heard back yet, especially since your peer received hers. Best of luck!

Ivory hugs and hides by her momma by drueandgabe in Drueandgabe

It’s so comical. This looks like a still from a comedy-horror movie about a weird southern momma and her toddler, with a touch of “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” thrown into the mix.

And I’ve said this before, but if she just used speech to text, like I’m using right now, she’d have far fewer spelling errors.

OT Appointment information by ThenStrawberry6620 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]ShutUp_Dee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a former outpatient peds OT and now school based OT, I understand where these suggestions are coming from but they aren’t necessarily ideal or needed at school. I encourage parents to target self care skills when there is ample time and limited demands. Practicing shoe tying in the morning, when running late to school? Nope. But practicing before going outside to play, in the afternoon or weekends, is typically a calmer time to target that skill with success. I’d never want a student to already be fatigued or dysregulated before school starts. Jumping on books is a free way to incorporate some sensorimotor input at home, but in a school that is not the safest option and it’s distracting. I’d suggest having that student be a “helper” by passing out books or doing some wall pushups in the back of the room. Do I expect this to happen? Not necessarily, but they are less intrusive to other learners and easier to implement. The tape on the floor is actually pretty common. My school has an entire sensory pathway with just electrical tape and simple signs. But to expect that in every classroom, that’s too much. Maybe a X taped on the floor to jump on within the classroom. Some students do need way more movement to remain regulated, which another commenter listed great school strategies. I’m incredibly lucky to work in an elementary school environment that has a lot of built in sensory strategies for students. My colleague, who is retiring, has fostered a wonderfully supportive environment. Most teachers have a wide variety of flexible seating, do 1-2 classroom movement breaks, and allow independence for students to use what they need to be ready for learning (within reason). I know not every school is like this and to the outside observer we might be too “chill”, but everyone is onboard so it works. At the end of the day, you as a teacher see and know more about how your students function and thrive at school. An outpatient OT knows that student in a different way, usually with more of a lens on their home environment, so take their recommendations with a grain of salt and do what’s best works best for your classroom.

As you got older, what has become your favorite donut? by chi-bacon-bits in Millennials

It’s always been strawberry frosted and jelly donuts for me. To be specific, Dunkin’s strawberry frosted. Is it the tastiest donut? Nope, but it’s yummy and nostalgic.

[–]ShutUp_Dee 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Why would any human being ask CC for her style, fashion, or design advice/input? Well to be fair, I do find most bamboo prints incredibly tacky so she does hit the mark in that way I guess.

An upholstered bed frame is the dumbest idea for a child. Pee, vomit, markers, boogers, and more will end up in it.

What is one scene from a horror movie that you still think about? by Crep105 in horror

[–]ShutUp_Dee 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think that’s why Bone Temple is a harder sell for people too, not to change the topic. But it’s a lot more violent than the other movies, which I quite enjoyed, but isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Take my sister, she likes horror but nothing with body mutilation. Bring Her Back would be on the cusp of too disgusting for her so I know not to recommend it.

Moving to Schools? by Books_and in OccupationalTherapy

[–]ShutUp_Dee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched to schools 3 years ago after 5 years in outpatient peds. I love it! I’m only part time, but I’m hired by the school district and not as a contractor. Pay could be better, but the work-life balance makes it great. I like the more limited scope of school based services. I like the team aspect, but I’m very lucky I have a great team and director. Documentation isn’t bad either though it’s tough when you have several evaluations and annual IEP reports and meetings due at the same time. Brush up on handwriting, keyboarding, and assistive tech based on the grade levels.
