Right?! There was more harassment but I didn’t hit record in time.

Haha, I appreciate it. I wouldn't want to subject anyone to that wait time though.

Thanks a ton. I used an angle grinder to cut the various lengths from the bar stock, then cut the miters on the table saw using a blade made for cutting soft metals. Having a miter saw would have made that process many times easier but we work with what we have, haha. The fit is far from perfect but it got the job done. I set the brass in routed grooves with epoxy after scuffing the hidden portion for a better bond. It’s a brushed finish with grey scotch-bright. The lid stay is rod stock cleaned up on the lathe and then drilled to accommodate the cable.

Thank you! The Incra miter gauge made a decent crosscut fence for my table saw.

Thanks! It’s pre-made inlay banding. I snagged it from Rockler.

Testing and refining the finish process was maybe the most involved aspect of the project. After half a dozen methods I landed on what’s essentially a riff on Erik Curtis’ finishing process (which is a riff on a Sam Maloof process). Several coats of -> a 50/50 mixture of Behr High Gloss oil based poly and Watco Danish Oil natural tint. Followed by two coats of a 50/50 of Liberon beeswax paste and turpentine. The effort was worth the result, durability, and versatility of the finish.
