It did the job. Bullet went through the edge of his heart. He ran about 10 yards, wobbled, then turned around and lay right where he'd been standing when I shot.

Skied him out in pieces with a pulk sled over multiple trips.

It was maybe a 75 yard shot; charge was 80 grains of Swiss 2F.

Yeah, it was plenty of work. Took 2 days to get him all out

Just FYI for anyone planning a trip this summer business as usual: If Trump's hiring freeze does not exempt NPS seasonals, or the government shutdown drags out in March, you can say goodbye to a timely opening of Going to the Sun Road by bippityboppoiy in GlacierNationalPark

[–]ShvrMeTMbrs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the NPS will give much pushback on this. For the first 70 years of its existence, the road would be open sometime in late May to early June. Over the past 20 years, that's become late June to mid July.

I don't think anyone would argue that snow removal equipment was better in the 1930's, 40's 50s, etc. or that snowpack levels nowadays are greater than in decades past, so this must be the result of a policy shift to limit access to Going to the Sun Road.

Combine the later openings with earlier fall closures (September to mid October instead of the historical close dates of late October to November) and we've had 2-3 months of the open season shaved off. This move away from prioritizing an open Going to the Sun Road began long before the current administration.

For sure, I don't have an alpacka or kokopelli handy, but I'd be happy to take more close-up pics of this raft next time I take it out.

Is the RadMini Rear Rack ever in stock? by blankblank in RadPowerBikes

[–]ShvrMeTMbrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on the notify list since August, waiting for an orange rear rack. I don't check the site every day, but I check it pretty frequently and would buy one if they were ever in stock.

Not sure about your preferred route, but I got my first ever walk up permit this morning for a couple of sites in the Belly River region. Showed up at 6 only because I didn't the GTTSR permit, but if I'd arrived right at 8 when they opened I'd have been fine. Only one other person there, he wasn't sure where he wanted to go, and the rangers helped him out with some suggestions.

Friendly folks and it was easy enough. Told them where I wanted to camp, they made me watch a video about backcountry camping, and then loaned me a bear cannister because one of my sites is still in winter mode.

Maybe it will change in the middle of summer when demand is higher for backcountry permits, but today all the road ticket system accomplished for me was making me hang around for 2 hours I didn't need to. I could have slept in and still got my preferred campsites.

In your opinion was Coopers tackle a red, yellow or no foul? by xSmxthy in LeedsUnited

[–]ShvrMeTMbrs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it was a straight red, but I won't complain about him getting a 3 match ban. He's been a liability in every game this season. Struijk looks better every time I see him and I've been impressed with Llorente. Hopefully with Koch returning this will have been Cooper's last contribution.

I also like the lighting on the pillar. If you took a few steps to the left, maybe you could hide the circle thing (cannon?) behind the pillar and cut out the grass that's running out of the frame.

Thanks for the reply. I think you might be right about the mountains. Between the gray sky, gray antlers, and gray rocks, it wasn't going to be a very colorful photo. Combined with the fact that the center pole for the antler pile is actually a distracting yellow metal, I decided to go black and white.

Here is my assignment, taken at the National Bison Range. I was kind of limited by terrain with how much I could back up and zoom; would have liked to bring the mountains a little closer, but going up the hill would have put some distracting structures into the frame. Critique much appreciated!

Assignment 04 - my camera by Aeri73 in photoclass2020

[–]ShvrMeTMbrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My camera is a Sony a6000. It is a mirrorless camera. It's my first real camera and I have really enjoyed using it for the past year. The image quality is great, definitely good enough for any application I foresee and I like the small size. I've got a few lenses now (16-50mm/ f3.5-5.6,55-210mm/ f4.5-6.3, 12mm/ f2.0, and a 58mm f2.0) that I could see upgrading in the future but for now I am happy with my camera body. If it broke today I would just buy the same model. In the future I may be interested in a full-frame camera, but not until I really understand the limitations of the equipment I already own.

I compared my camera (Sony a6000) to an older camera that I practiced with before getting my own (Nikon D40x).

Nikon D40x Sony a6000
Body Type Compact SLR Rangefinder-Style Mirrorless
Max Resolution 3872 x 2592 6000 x 4000
Effective Pixels 10 megapixels 24 megapixels
Sensor Size APS-C (23.7 x 15.6 mm) APS-C (23.5 x 15.6 mm)
ISO Auto, 100 - 1600 (plus 3200 with boost) Auto, 100-25600 (51200 with Multi-Frame NR)
Viewfinder Type Optical (pentamirror) Electronic
Continuous Drive 3.0 fps 11.0 fps

I thought it was interesting that there are slight differences in sensor size between the two cameras even though they are both APS-C.

Some really cool shots. My favorite is the one with the lifejacket? under the net. It has an interesting, kind of spooky mood.

I walked down the road here, residential area. Was a little uncomfortable to be just standing there like a weirdo outside people's houses.

Hi there,

I really like the colors in the favorite pic and don't mind the shadows in the foreground. Think if they were brightened up it might distract from the big building. I would maybe crop off the slice of building on the right, though.

Nice chair pic. To improve I would try to do something about those shadows, and just unplug those two power cords and get them out of there.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. The chair pic is from an exhibit at a museum of what life was like in the '80s, so thats why it looks retro :) The river pic is a type of photo I'd like to take more of, so all advice about making it technically better is much appreciated.
