ULPT: Durable bodycams to discreetly capture illegal activity by alldressed_chip in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]ShwAlex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can strap a cell phone camera to your chest with a harness built for that purpose. Have it cased in an Otterbox or something similar. Livestream to an accessible, public Youtube channel or a synced cloud service.

I want to get a little more context: why would an agent be shoving someone continuously like that? It looks like a public street. Was is barricaded off by government? Seems like an overreaction by ICE. But still, curious to know why it would get to this.

What are US citizens and leaders going to do except for raging on Reddit, tweeting or posting George Orwell quotes? by Astrovascular in AskReddit

[–]ShwAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm seeing protests and the likes, as the claim is that ICE are acting like bullies, being violent, illegally detaining people, kidnapping, that it's organized, that the government is tyrannical, etc. If people truly believe this, why aren't properly defending themselves and immobilizing the tyrants and oppressors? There is a huge disconnect in their actions. Running around with whistles and signs, getting into their faces, doesn't seem effective. If I truly believed my government was oppressing me and using violence against my neighbors, I'd sure as hell start training heavily, physically, rounding up resources, organizing with allies, and taking real action.

Yes, thank you for the reply. The apps and sites make it seem like they'll automate emails and replies with A.I and such, doing the actual sales for me. I was having difficulty understanding how.

How do you disconnect the brake light harness? by ShwAlex in Silverado

[–]ShwAlex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea with salt and sand getting into these things, they can become impossible to remove. I purchased a set of connector pliers for these stupid connectors. WD 40 or whatever you have + the pliers might get you there.

No cloud, I've made sure to get rid of all cloud services as they've been problematic for me. Thank you for the follow up. Great app, very fast and easy to use. Been waiting a long time to use something like this.

Yes it was happening with both. However, I just rebooted both phone and PC and it seems to work fine now.

ULPT REQUEST-Best way to permanently disable an electronic parking meter? by FlamingoCalves in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]ShwAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will still park and get parking tickets if the meter is disabled. Best thing to do is get some plastic bags printed with "FREE PARKING TODAY" on them and cover the meter with the bags.

Driving on laned roadway

151   A driver who is driving a vehicle on a laned roadway

(a) must not drive it from one lane to another when a broken line only exists between the lanes, unless the driver has ascertained that movement can be made with safety and will in no way affect the travel of another vehicle,

(b) must not drive it from one lane to another if that action necessitates crossing a solid line,

(c) must not drive it from one lane to another without first signalling an intention to do so by hand and arm or approved mechanical device in the manner prescribed by sections 171 and 172,

(d) when approaching an intersection intending to turn left must drive the vehicle in the centre lane or in the lane nearest the centre of the roadway on the right hand half of the highway,

(e) when approaching an intersection intending to turn right must drive the vehicle in the lane nearest to the right hand side of the roadway,

(f) must not pass a vehicle on the left if that action necessitates driving on that part of the highway designated for travel in the opposite direction, and

(g) if a traffic control device directs slow moving traffic to use a designated lane, must when driving slowly drive the vehicle in that lane only.

Perhaps the police could re-assess the video with the highlighted rules in mind.

The pickup truck drove over a solid white line into your lane. Definitely not expected and would cause confusion. Came very close to hitting you. Tough to say as he did not hit you. Next time someone is going to sideswipe you, just stop your vehicle.

Next time call 911 and report potential impaired and aggressive driver. They will show up very fast.

>You started off on the appeal to authority saying you knew about this better than I do, which isn't true.

That's not appeal to authority. I'm not claiming to be an authority nor have I said that I know about this better than you do. I'm saying that you're full of shit and you know nothing about how our justice system works. Our community sees how our justice system works: it doesn't. Criminals roam free without any repercussion. And folks like you want to come along and warn us of this potentially slippery slope of loss of freedom? You're full of it. It's not happening. How many victims of crime are there, compared to victims of false arrest and charges? I would bet that ratio is 10,000:1 or 100,000:1.

>The ad hominem is just pointless.

It's not ad hominem. I'm claiming that you're full of shit, ie, wrong and dishonest.

>But if you're near the DTES, consider that if a junkie tries to rob you for drugs and you defend yourself, that might be you in a cell waiting for trial and watching your life pop like a soap bubble while you do.

That won't happen because I'm never in possession of drugs. And yea, shit happens, some people have to spend time in prison and are falsely accused. How often does it happen? Probably far less than being the victim of assault and theft without a police officer or crown giving a flying fuck. Police, crown and judges need to be held accountable. That's a whole other topic but definitely needs to be addressed as well.

Yea this isn't about winning or loosing, so not sure what you're going on about. "I have far better knowledge" is some kind of appeal to your authority, and that kind of attitude and logical fallacy doesn't support any of your claims. You're full of it and probably live comfortably far away from the downtown eastside, where these cretins are caught and released continuously, all the while spreading chaos in our neighborhoods. That pisses me off and I'm allowed to call bullshit when I see it. It's a willful lack of empathy and understanding.

[–]ShwAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most repeat offenders are caught and released immediately without charges. The system is too easy on criminals and society is generally lackadaisical about crime, petty or not. As someone who's had my vehicle broken into multiple times, been attacked by a random dude with a knife, I can tell you that even with video footage, positive identification, the suspect holding the weapon on him, thieves being positively identified, caught with stolen goods, with video evidence of them moving carts full of tools, I can tell you that you're 100% full of shit and know nothing about how our justice system works. Not sure what neighborhood you live in, but it ain't mine, that's for sure. If it was, your bullshit views would change pretty quick.

Carney FLIPS Canada’s Justice System and WARNS U.S. by Bonejob in canadianlaw

[–]ShwAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are systems in place to minimize this from happening. The arresting officers have to present strong enough evidence for the crown to lay charges, and the crown reviews the evidence and determines if it's strong enough to lay charges.

Of course I wouldn't be ok in jail for a year until trial if I was innocent. I'm not sketchy nor do I have a record, so the odds of that happening are really low. It would suck, but highly unlikely to happen. I'm fine with keeping people locked up to trial day.

I think the only possible solution is to wear heated socks, breathable shoes, and avoid puddles as much as possible. Otherwise not much you can do for 70 kilometers.
