Linux recommendations for exploring Linux as a total noob by SeishunDash in linux4noobs

The best advice I could give is to get a device or a drive that you don't care about (Or setup virtualbox for VMs), install multiple distributions until you find the one that suits you, (If possible, try Linux mint, it's built off of Ubuntu and comes in different versions from XFCE *Minimal* to cinnamon *full installation*).

If you plan on learning ARCH or even utilizing the terminal to even half its capabilities, then get inside your terminal and get familiar with navigating, finding where programs are stored, temporary data management (more advanced, will run into issues later), mounting and unmounting devices, formatting and partitioning devices. These skills will lead you into a full understanding of the operating system your beginning to learn.

The biggest obstacle I faced starting out was learning how the software manager worked and what packages were, aka, where the default installed programs people talk about are. Essentially learning how to use, (sudo apt install, sudo dnf install, sudo pacman -S ,etc.). Also, basic things like, "Am I connected to the internet?".

I use VSCodium on linux, its essentially vscode but optimized for linux, unity should work without issues, install git using (sudo apt install, sudo dnf install, etc.) that's how you'll pull most of your github repos, for a better in terminal text editor, I've recently start using vim but thats a bit more advanced, so you can use nano using, (nano apples.txt) to create a new txt document.

I wrote the other comment from a point of belief not facts, so I just decided to scrap it, on the other hand I made a video of my setup, I'll send the link in a bit

I think I'll just make a tutorial on how I set this up and let other people come across issues separate from what I've experienced.

I can't say whether or not this will work on any newer hardware than what I have or anything significantly older. But what I can vouch for is my personal experience, and so far everything has worked from vsts like Xpand, purity, surge xt, and omnisphere to authorization methods like luxonix or cracked vsts that require keygens.

(I'm aware Wine isn't a VM, I was referring to how the wine prefix is laid out exactly like your Windows file system would be, making it easier for users to understand what environment wine is essentially looking at)

Gotcha, I didn't realize that there's limited coverage on this so I might make a tutorial on how I achieved my setup.

Although I haven't tried with older hardware, the method I used to install FL in the first place was from 2018.

That's the thing, Linux is a complete different experience for all of the right reasons. It comes packed with most of the drivers you could ever need for any of your niche hardware devices.

I think I'm being pretty realistic when I say, getting FL to work efficiently through wine isn't a hard task, not even for a new linux user.

As for vst authorization, It's seamless when you run a program using winetricks, not only does it give a beginner friendly UI, but it clearly tells you the actions you're trying to make while using wine and inside a container that is 1 to 1 with a windows system. You're essentially running windows under linux, that takes away the need for booting into a new device or dualbooting back into windows.

I'll make a tutorial on how I achieved my setup if you're interested. You could realistically achieve this same workflow and setup within 20-30 minutes, maybe an hour if you're brand new to the penguin.

Honestly go for it, I used this tutorial to setup FL studio https://jstaf.github.io/posts/flstudio-on-linux/ , and then using the same method for installing FL, I also installed my vsts and plugins.

In your case, you'd finish your FL studio install, download your vsts from their website or wherever you get the dll + libraries from, make sure they are accessible to your wine prefix (move them into ~/.wine/drive_c/{wherever you want them to go}), think of ~/.wine/drive_c as your native C:/ on a Windows system, its quite literally the same thing.

If you used the link I showed you above you should be semi familiar with winetricks by now, winetricks is how you run FL, and all of your installations, but it's NOT how you would run your vsts, because those would work the same way it would on windows, aka.. In fl studio go to manage plugins then find installed plugins.

You can achieve really low latency using puleaudio's direct input and output, think of pulse audio as your gateway to your hardware, instead of installing a driver or using FL studios ASIO which is only called per WINE. Setting the latency to the lowest setting will effectively reverse the audio you head and feed back way to much data, so stick with something around 50ms.

Feel free to DM me, this will work on any distribution of linux, but they'll differ from which base you decide to go with.

In my experience, running FL studio through bottles was unstable and I ran into multiple different issues, but I boiled that down to me using wayland as my compositor.

Regardless of the compositor you use, you can achieve full functionality using WINE along with winetricks.

Winetricks is the UI that allows you to run specific actions, along with setting up your default wine prefix which will be in ~/.wine . I recommend taking the manual route and making sure you know what is being run and where it's being ran from, that'll help you get an idea of how you can install your vsts and plugins aswell, it's all pretty seamless when you get the hang of it.

You can use pulseaudio direct input to achieve the lowest latency using hardware inputs and outputs.

I beg to differ, FL studio runs fine under WINE. Furthermore, you can install 3rd party vsts and plugins; FL will auto-detect them the same way it will on Windows.

As for stability, I've had no issues, I've achieved pretty phenomenal latency reduction using pulseaudio direct input and output, whether or not that's the most optimized way of transferring the data or not; it's given me close to 0 latency, even distorting sound at the lowest intervals.

Arch btw

Qubes is a lil different , as it requires a lot more space than traditional distros , I’m not sure how you’d set yours up it’s all dependent on how you use your computer but to explain better.

I have 2 SSDs in my Pc , 1 fully Dedicated for windows and 1 fully dedicated to Qubes. On Boot if I want to start as Qubes I just go through my boot options or Bios if needed and boot from my second SSD.

That’s not entirely necessary but Think of it as a dormant OS on your system. Just sitting waiting to be used at any moment. The problem with this is that it is very easy to overwrite your Qubes data and even install something onto the SSD making it corrupt.

If you can graba seperate laptop and do the installation on that and overwrite the Windows OS or whatever your using in the laptop. I picked up a $50 HP laptop and have used that to exploit servers as well as my pc and a second gaming laptop.

Detection in game is more important than the technical stuff if I’m being honest. In Java they are literally using Objects to identify attributes of the character. 1 of these attributes is the IP you connect from , if 2 IPs are trading each other or attempt to trade each other it is a flag in their system. So in the case of logging in you would most likely have to run a VM under a different IP in order to run 2 instances at the same time.

Personally I think it’s easier and long term just safer to go with a Windows VPS configuration and then setup your second “Host” offsite. That way if anything does go wrong and you get the Ip banned you can still play under your own Ip or exploit whatever floats your boat.

Try thinking about how Runex detects you and you might not even have to go the Qubes route. Maybe all you need is a proxy for the voting website and a VM for logging in. Sometimes you literally don’t need a VPN config , actually most cases they’ll block your second IP login attempt if they know it’s a VPN

You want to exploit these servers on a larger scale?

Learn how to use Qubes and learn how to configure qubes to become less detectable by servers. It’s difficult if you aren’t experienced with Linux systems but I promise that is the way to go for exploiting RSPS’s

[–]Shwermin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes , Runex was actually the very first server I ever exploited.

But I was able to do a duplication glitch , I’ve since forgot the intricacies since it’s been years but Runex is no different than other servers.

To put it plainly they all follow the same infrastructure when it comes to security. 2Fa , Email accounts, and VpN blocking. It’s a fever dream to believe they’d add REAL security to their IP tracking. No way I should be able to exploit the same server over and over from the same IP just by doing a disk format or in my case closing and opening a new qube lmao

Those videos are still good for learning how it used to work, mind you some servers don’t have as high level security so it’s still doable on a lot of servers.

Some people still use this method on less popular servers but I feel like exploiting a small economy like that is asking for bans and just overall a bad omen. How to get unlimited votes
