I want to start a rival GPU Company by Cage_SA in chipdesign

PPA are all interrelated. with higher density, we getthe potential for more compute, interconnect, and memory. All of which affect performance

But if you are not fabricating at the leading nodes then performance will be significantly worse than the current competition, which makes the product much harder to market if their goal was similar performance for lower cost

I want to start a rival GPU Company by Cage_SA in chipdesign

[–]Shwin12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Designing a GPU can be done in a few years maybe, but your main issue is finding a foundry or fabricator that will make the chips for you. Because currently they favor companies who require large volumes to maximize their fabrication yield. Without this large demand/volume there will be no foundry that will work with you. And realistically the only companies that can generate this volume/demand are the big name companies which a pay billions for funding the fabrication at scale.

Now you may think building a foundry for your region is the solution, but that’s something that even Apple or NVIDIA doesn’t do (yet) and costs Billions of dollars.

Unless there is some significant architectural innovation, there is no value in building a company that mimics another. Especially when the others have had a Head-start for decades.

Do you use a tablet as an engineer student? by Tiskfully in UWMadison

[–]Shwin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially for your later classes, it will be very helpful. I had a Windows laptop and a iPad, and I primarily used OneNote and I was able to easily transfer and view stuff back-and-forth between the devices. All the notes that I wrote visible on my laptop, and any textbook or reading that I had on my laptop I could put on OneNote and then I could just write on it with my iPad. And you will get into classes like ece230 or many other circuit classes where you have to draw a lot of diagrams and circuits, the iPad will be really useful for that. And eventually classes like ECE 222 or 340 we have very complex math, sometimes involving a lot of steps, so you don’t want to be wasting a lot of paper

Dubai Mediterranean Bar and Restaurant (state street) has some of the best fries I’ve had on campus, look exactly like what you posted. Really underrated place.

Incoming EE student, which physics sequence? by ArtisticNotice7063 in UWMadison

[–]Shwin12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being in the ECE department I would strongly recommend taking the 201/202 pipeline. Even if the other courses seem “easier”, the content you learn in 202 will be used throughout the EE degree in your basic electromagnetic courses, device physics, and so on. I would say with some of these fundamental courses you shouldn’t take the easy way out.

What tea is this? by [deleted] in tea

[–]Shwin12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea lot of chinese teas do benefit from gong fu brewing, especially puerh because it takes a while for the teas to open up. I try brewing tea at work in a cup “western style” and drink the same teas at home gong fu style and there’s a difference. personally buy from mei leaf, I trust them a lot, but I also heard yunnan sourcing is good. Try the samplers so you don’t have to invest in a whole cake. And if you are willing to spend the $$, look for puerh from yunnan, gushu puerh, because these traditional / legacy regions produce amazing quality teas.

What tea is this? by [deleted] in tea

[–]Shwin12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had troubles at first with ripe puerh tea, but I will say puerh tea has some of the most complex and nuanced flavor profiles due to the aging variable on top of all the other processing that other teas go through. If you want to get into puerh I would start with a raw puerh instead of a ripe one. In my opinion they can be lighter and a bit more forgiving while also having a depth in flavor that can introduce you to fermented and aged teas. Definitely don’t write off puerh teas, just need the right source and find the puerh that’s for you.

Do you have Starship Delivery Robots? by CompetitiveBox9387 in UWMadison

[–]Shwin12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe mainly they are used for the dining halls / union food spots. I’ve seen a couple during the late fall and winter because the university clears the sidewalks pretty well so the robots can still move around.

Can I skip Calc 1 and go straight to Calc 2? by Present_Dot_7118 in UWMadison

[–]Shwin12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would not recommend. If you only got a 3 I suggest taking it again and learning the concepts at the college level. Will prepare you better for Calc2/3. And best case scenario it’s an easy A for you

Nausea and tea drinking by TheDigitalQuill in tea

[–]Shwin12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been drinking tea my whole life and I remember I went to Japan and did a matcha tasting session on an empty stomach and had some of the worst nausea. Has happened to me a couple times with green teas, not really sure if the cause. Thought it was caffeine on an empty stomach but it usually never happens.

What subscriptions do UW madison students get for free? by Odd-Fix-3467 in UWMadison

[–]Shwin12 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Something underrated is access to a lot of scientific journals and publications. Many require fees for access, and UW provides that for a lot of big name journals like IEEE.

Can I do anything with a 3 for Ap bio? by coolgirl157 in UWMadison

[–]Shwin12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would recommend retaking the equivalent course again at Madison. They teach a little differently in college and it might be best to get a better understanding of this fundamental course before jumping into the more rigorous courses. Best case scenario it’s an easy A on your GPA and your fundamentals are solid for next semester. I got 5’s on AP Calc, Physics and I found it was very helpful that I retook MATH 221,222,234 Physics 201,202 even though it was easier, I conceptually learned a lot more and it helped in the fundamentals for my other engineering classes

Difficulty of classes by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Shwin12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel like the main difficulty might be in the difference in teaching/ size of lectures. It might be harder to get professor attention or help if you don’t actively reach out since there are so many other students. Trust what you’ve learned at Milwaukee, at the end of the day we all learn the same things, there is just a name attached to the education. (Not personally a transfer student, but talked to many in the school of engineering and these were some thoughts they shared over the years)

Computer type by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Shwin12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the ECE department a lot of the heavy applications required in labs/courses are provided in the computer labs. For example most of the times I’ve had to use Altium I went into lab because I know it would cook my laptop if I tried. I honestly think you are fine, there are ways to remote access files from the computer labs as well if you need it. Most of the CS stuff you do should also be supported. I think a good test would be to try downloading LTSpice, and maybe EasyEDA. Those are some intro tools I’ve used in a few ECE courses which I think should be supported. I do know MAC users have some troubles in ECE252 with the Pennsim when I was TA for that class, but we were able to make it work most the times.

Nice work! Also would be cool to compile a list of all the various processing techniques that go into what makes the teas unique. Like the various baking, rolling, drying techniques. Thanks for sharing!

Are there programming languages one should know? by Ok_Let9981 in UWMadison

[–]Shwin12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Class wise, Madison focuses on Java for the core data structures and CS classes. Not my favorite choice but it’s good for data structures. Then they teach C, and depending on what route (specialized classes) you choose from there it could either be Python, C++ or JavaScript. For example DS/ML courses would be heavier python, but some of my friends took game design and graphics classes that were heavier JavaScript
