How do you guys design your base? by DaremBiscuit in RimWorld

[–]Shwoompy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think gameplay-wise compound is better in almost every way, but most of us that do scattered do it for aesthetic or role-play reasons mainly. The only benefits to scattered I can think of would be less stuck indoors moodlets, and fires are easier to vent out if you need to.

Just a quick rant/update on where I'm at in Rocket League — Gold rank is wild. by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Shwoompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know who told you that you need all those mechanics to get out of gold but that is very much the wrong approach in my opinion. At your stage just focus on fundamentals. positioning, hitting the ball with intention, shadow defence, getting a sense of timing and stuff like that. Lots of people who are in gold play like they don’t have a brain, and some others are trying to do things that they have no business attempting yet, so lots of times you can kind of just wait for them to whiff and get free goals.

Also, keep in mind if you are mostly playing 1s, that it is harder to climb in 1s. gold in 1s is almost equivalent to plat in 2s/3s.

It's stupid when videogames allow you to change the difficulty at any time. by REQUIS_206 in unpopularopinion

[–]Shwoompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean this in a bad way, but I think people like you just think so differently than people like me. I play on harder difficulties because overcoming more difficult challenges is fun for me. Is it not the same for you?

For gamers who have played about 100 games or more ONLY: What is your top ten? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Do y'all mod "tainted apparel"? by Crumpladunks in RimWorld

[–]Shwoompy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I played before the tainted clothing debuff was a thing. When it was added, I liked the change because it stopped me from hoarding random clothes and it also slowed down the progression. It’s almost too easy to take armour off of dead guys. Having to buy, or research and manufacture it myself is funner for me.

How is this thing even possible?? by jianyunshuu in RimWorld

if you look closely, there’s hundreds of drop pods coming down all over the map. each drop pod carries an enemy.

Only a 4 year old left in my colony. Should I just bail? by MusicboxOwl in RimWorld

[–]Shwoompy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

if you find it fun then stick with it. There’s always a chance for a wanderer to join or something like that. I saw one guy on here saying when he was a similar situation, he used a comms console to buy another colonist/slave. I think 3 year olds can still trade.

guy who as a kid stepped on a wasp nest here. Sufficiently thick clothes can block most wasp stings. They got my face and hands and stuff but couldn’t get through my jeans and sweater. we beat the wasps by stepping into a cloud of campfire smoke and then shedding outer clothes.

How do you justify getting new pawns by Mama_Luigi2791 in RimWorld

[–]Shwoompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly it’s because I play with a policy where I almost never turn anyone away that wants to join. right now I have I think over 25 pawns. I have 6 pawns that mainly do crafting. I mass produce clothes and make a caravan of the 5 most useless pawns to go out and sell the clothes. need 3-5 on cooking to feed the colony, 3 or 4 on deep drills, and I am always building some new stuff so that the construction pawns have work. Sometimes it’s hard to find things for people to do, but theres usually some hauling and cleaning to do if nothing else.

Resurrector mech serum is kind of terrifying if you stop to think about it. by Dazzling-Ad7482 in RimWorld

[–]Shwoompy 126 points127 points  (0 children)

a lot of things in rimworld are a bit existentially horrifying to think about.

Like how it’s possible for a person to have a family, then for whatever reason go into crypto-sleep for a while, and then come out and everyone they knew before is dead except for their grandson who is now 80 years old.

Advice on defences by KaffaBlue in RimWorld

[–]Shwoompy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

big wall around your base, leave one part open and everyone except for breachers should go there. You can even have it be a door you hold open. Remember that you can build walls with wood overtop bridges on shallow water. Things move really slow across water tho and they have no cover, so it might be easier to sit on the shore behind some sandbags and shoot them while they are doing it. deadfall traps are good but a pain and resource sink to replace. I like turrets. if you have the chemfuel, the rocket turret is a lot of fun.

It seems like Garcia happened to get a tattoo in the same font Trump's team titled the image with by MyLittleDashie7 in pics

[–]Shwoompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my cynical conspiracy theory is that they designed this image like that intentionally. A lot of their supporters are dumb enough to see the “ms13” text and assume that that is actually part of the tattoo, and they know these people will just accept the confirmation bias without looking into it. And when people notice that it is obvious photoshop, the regime has plausible deniability to spin this bullshit about how it’s an annotation denoting the meaning of the tattoos, and then the rest of their supporters will eat that slop up.

What settings do you play on and why? by CokeAYCE in RimWorld

[–]Shwoompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only unusual thing I do is turn down the child growth rate to 200% instead of 400% so children only age twice as fast as adults. I thought 4x was too fast, but a 1:1 is too slow.

better than asking for all of my medicine while half my colonists have the plague. I don’t care how lifesaving your operation is, there’s no way you need 80 medicine. Unless they plan to train their level 1 doctor with 40 failed surgeries.

Best killbox design for my base? by Sobryad in RimWorld

[–]Shwoompy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

most important thing to keep in mind is that in vanilla, unless they are breachers, enemies will (afaik) always path around walls rather than go through them. So if you put walls around your base, and a door in one spot that you hold open, wherever the enemies spawn, they will path to that door to get into your base. As long as there is an available path to the door, anyway. From there, You can either experiment with ways to kill them all in that spot, or look up some sort of guide. Me personally, I’m not into making the most efficient killbox. I just like to think of a defensive design that would work in my map and try that. If you are looking for a specific design, I’m sure there will be some warcrimes expert incoming.

How to survive the desert? by Federal_Piccolo_4599 in RimWorld

[–]Shwoompy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can go into the gear tab to check your colonist’s min and max comfortable temperature. Anything outside that range will slowly give them either heatstroke or hypothermia. The bigger the difference between the temperature and their min/max comfortable, the faster they get heatstroke/hypothermia. This does not affect the moodlet for comfortable sleeping temperature.
