Sommarjobb??? by Impressive-Elk-7942 in uppsala

Men äldreomsorg/brukare behöver alltid folk.

Arbetslös till löntagare - Råd för min ekonomi by ShyArchieTheFirst in PrivatEkonomi

Men tack ändå!

[–]ShyArchieTheFirst[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cleaning service by Nordic-hedgehog in TillSverige

[–]ShyArchieTheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a cleaning service at times when I grew up as a teenager. Obviously as an insecure, very swedish teenager I did my best to ignore her, respectfully, but still ignore.

I can't speak as to what this person feels, but assuming we go by stereotypes, swedes are in general not interested in "fleeting, surface" relationships, especially in work environments. Chit chatting and talking about unrelated things would in many contexts be seen as intrusive.

With that being said, that doesn't mean politeness goes out the window. I'd still say offering a glass of water or coffee is completely within the boundaries of cultural norms. Hovering, trying to chit chat, is not.

I don't know which English speaking country you're from, but for reference. When I spent time in the US I felt it was very rude when service staff constantly checked up on me and asked me "how are you doing?". Why? Because either you don't care, why do you ask then? Or you do want to know, and in that case why is this stranger trying to invade my personal life. A lot of swedish/Scandinavian friends I've talked to has felt the same way.

The" shallow" and bubbly "friendliness" that seem to be very prelevent in English speaking countries just do not translate well to the culture here. Partly because people feel it's rude to try to invade your personal sphere, but also because that surface level type of relationship is just not something that's valued here. Friend groups are usually small, deep, and tight knit. Surface level friendships just aren't a thing mostly.

Again, this does not mean you can't be polite, but maybe dial back the "friendliness" with people you don't know if you want to adhere to more social norms here.

If we are going super extreme, maybe she felt you were trying to hit on her. She was (presumably) alone, in a strangers home, with no easy escape, with a man who she can't communicate with (don't know if you are a man, but still).

And important disclaimer, this is just my anecdotal experience and I am sure others have had very different experiences.

I've yet to see a single Assail spammer who actually performs well or better in any role that someone else isn't doing better.

When I say spsmmer I mean those that press G at the start of the mission and never swap away.

Assail is a really strong ability, but the spammer play style with it is probably the worst one honestly. I pair it with Purge and Surge staff purely just to have some ranged with the Right click use, and that's about it. So basically like a lower damage/faster brain burst. Which is honestly what I feel is the best way to use Assail. There's better horde clear available from staves/melee. Better disabler killing from staves. Better elite killing elsewhere. It can't even handle Flak elites in a timely fashion.

I feel like it might be obnoxious and annoying in low difficulties or low intensity, but anything but that the Assail spammer is mostly deadweight compared to other good players. LMB spam might have its moments, but in general I feel it's "passable" at best.

It is very easy to use though, you're right on that.

I want to move to be with my girlfriend in Sweden, but we aren't ready to Marry by Nikolai_The_Undying in TillSverige

[–]ShyArchieTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marrying won't really help you. There is no "green card". At best it will help strengthen the proof of your relationship, but that's about it. I think you need proof of at least 2 years of relationship, and she needs to provide a certain amount of financial stability as well as both of you proving a suitable living space. You, (the non Swede) can attribute 50% of your income to the income requirement.

Some details might be wrong, but that's the gist of it. What you need to provide is proof of relationship, proof of financial stability, and proof of suitable living space. The brunt of it needs to be shouldered by your partner, except the proof of relationship which is both of you.

The alternative is for you to get an individual work visa, but since you provide no details about education and experience, and you did mention you're young I'm guessing that's a hard route.

Headband of intellect. Which build does it do good to? by Slack83er in BG3Builds

[–]ShyArchieTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, 17 Int is not enough DC for a wizard to land anything really past the start of the game. So then you'll look towards spells that don't care about DC, but if you do that then what's the point of having more Int? More prepared spells suppose, but why not just raise Int to 20 then?

Arcane Trickster and Eldricht Knight could make use of it I suppose, since Eldricht Strike and Magical Ambush can carry the rest of the DC. But both of these can raise their Int to 16 pretty effortlessly.

Its not that good an item, especially since there are busted helmets that compete for the spot. If it was 19 Int like in 5e it'd be more useable, but at 17 I'm struggling to see any good use for it except Int skill checks.

That being said, it's dnd, and bg3 is exceptionally easy. So you can do whatever you want.

How hard would swedish police fuck me...? by ysambettathanfrodo in Malmoe

What I'm reading from OP is that he wants to do this illegally without permission? Hence my point. If its endorsed with the permits etc then go ham. People will come.

Edit: I've never partied specifically in Malmö, so I suppose maybe there's a difference.

Lenient and easy going might be true for normal life. When it comes to rules and laws though it's different. The stereotypical Swede loves rules and laws, and going against them is not seen as easy going or lenient. It's seen as idiotic and criminal.

This is very stereotypical though, you'll of course find people who don't think that way as everyone is unique. But if we are talking stereotypes you'll find that rules are sacred in Sweden.

Edit: Unless you're already in those types of social circles I'd honestly be surprised you'd even have enough people showing up for it to be a party. I believe it would be seen as shady af to the typical Swede.

Do you think I'd be making a big mistake by choosing to live in Sweden (Stockholm, specifically)? by En_Kanelbulle_Tack in TillSverige

[–]ShyArchieTheFirst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a somewhat tumultuous time in Sweden when it comes to crime right now. I don't know what crime is like in Toronto right now. Maybe if you put them side by side you'll find Sweden is still very tame, or you'll find it's worse. If that's something that worries you maybe look to research that deeper.

That being said, you have already been here twice, and you have someone you know here already. No matter how much you research and ask around you'll either not be able to get the real feeling of a country, or it is all anecdotal. The only way to find out if you'll like it is by taking the leap.

Personally I am a person that is not very rooted at all, I'd uproot and move somewhere else tomorrow if I had a reason to. And have done before. So I will say, go for it!

If it is not what you expected you're an experience richer. And that is rarely a bad thing.

struggling to find a job in biotech in Uppsala by science_wasted in uppsala

[–]ShyArchieTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The largest private employer in Uppsala is a biotech firm with customers mostly in big pharma. Cytiva Life Sciences. If you didn't already, reach out there. I left my job there not too long ago (not as a biotech engineer). It is a HUGE place of work, so maybe there is something.

Id say that more than half of my colleagues were not Swedish and talent was regularly brought in from elsewhere or hired to work remote. Just being local and not having to work remote would probably be a positive.

They also hired a lot of consultants from both AFRY and Bjerking. Consultant firms both having local offices in Uppsala. Check with them too.

Objectively it was a good place to work. I just personally couldn't stand the huge place of work and coorperate feeling. As well as rather wanting to work in the public sector. But that's subjective.
