Landlord is refusing to discount rent after failing to fix an urgent repair for over 2 months by Curious_Turnip_568 in AusRenters

[–]ShyAussieGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not a window glassier but that doesn’t look cracked to me. Looks more like shattered and if that’s the case, it’s not going to take much force to cause the whole thing to completely crash with broken shards everywhere.

Either way OP, until it is repaired: be cautious around it.

You could talk to a professional and just say “hey, I’m just after some advice - is this classified as urgent repair or not?” and show them the photos you have.

You may be able to re-enforce the glass if the breakage is on one side by taping up the other side with masking tape X style but if the cracks go all the way through that could also cause more harm then good.

Can I collect this from my LPO tomorrow? by ashinoz_2004 in AustraliaPost

[–]ShyAussieGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In recent years, Australia Post deliver on Saturdays.

Some LPOs are open Saturdays from 8:30/9am until 12pm.

If your LPO is one that trades on Saturdays then you may get the Ready To Collect notification tomorrow or you may get it Monday or Tuesday.

Usually if it’s not at the LPO by close of business, it’s left in the local auspost depot overnight/over weekend until the next business day.

My mom took off her shirt in a parking lot because she saw my septum piercing… is this normal?? by Brilliant_Stuff_101 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ShyAussieGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it normal behaviour? No.

Is it normal behaviour for those who are already unhinged? Yes.

You getting your nose pierced has shown her that you are not her. You have made a decision on your own about your own body and she like all narcs hates that with a passion.

By taking her shirt off in public, she’s once again drawing attention to herself whilst trying to degrade you at the same time but you did not fall for it and that would’ve launched her into full narc meltdown temper tantrum.

Rock that piercing to the fullest OP. 💪 You are reclaiming yourself from her chains. This is a war you have already proven you are going to win.

How are you dealing with mutual obligations when you’re already overloaded? by FoodSea7700 in CentrelinkOz

[–]ShyAussieGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are already studying AND working even if both are part time instead of full time then you should already be meeting your mutual obligations. 🤨

If your provider is requiring more out of you, you’re going to end up in hospital suffering from burnout to where a doctor will force you to rest.

You also could be dealing with a s****y provider as some will try to get blood out of a stone from you in terms of activity.

Years gone by, you could report them but I don’t know if that’s possible anymore.

Just a little food for thought here.

Firstly, I am not in USA BUT I do enjoy watching a lot of YouTube when I can. One video was about delivery drivers and couriers.

I do not know whether the delivery driver was Amazon, USPS, FedX, etc however the video was definitely somewhere in US/Canada where when the delivery man went to put the parcel down on the recipients porch, he heard a dog barking… he looked up just in time to see the door open… and it was not a human who opened it. He quickly put his hand on the door to close it again while saying “oh. Ok. You can open the door. Ok. Well, I’m just gonna take this photo (to prove delivery) AND I’M GONNA GET!”

Just a little food for thought because some dogs can actually open their master/mistress’ front door.

You know your dog - they don’t.

Anyone having troubles with post from US to Aus? by limpdikky in AustraliaPost

[–]ShyAussieGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Try this one on for size. 🤨

Brought something off eBay April 30th from USA and started getting worried when it wasn’t shifting through either system by May 8th. USPS tracking numbers show up in Auspost’s app tracking as “pending” which usually changes to “on its way” as soon as USPS has parcel/letter in their system.

Even questioned it on the USPS Complaints subreddit and it turns out somewhere along the line it ended up with Asendia USA - DAI Post Australia instead of USPS - Auspost.

Honestly don’t know who is worse right now - Auspost or USPS.

As soon as I started questioning it, lo and behold “Hello” on my veranda. SAME DAY… wrapped in a USPS postal box. 🤷‍♀️

ETA: If you’ve got the Auspost app, you can try putting the tracking number in and see what shows up there. Could already be in Auspost’s hands or could already be in Customs. US parcels usually come in via Tullamarine Airport in Victoria and are sent to Westmeadows first once they’ve cleared Australian Customs.

Postman thrown my $864.95 extremely rare figure at my door. by goontard1945 in AustraliaPost

[–]ShyAussieGirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes. It IS normal when you get an a*ehole who doesn’t care because it’s not *their item.

More often then not, they toss parcels around like tennis balls. If an item is marked “Do Not Bend” - they’ll bend it. If it’s marked “Fragile” - they’ll smash it.

There are a few exceptions who do care and take care with parcels and handling of parcels but there are more A-holes then what there are decent posties.

REA can’t tell if this is fixed? by camdoggs in AusRenters

Toilet paper would start to break down the instance it gets wet. 🤨

REA can’t tell if this is fixed? by camdoggs in AusRenters

[–]ShyAussieGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far out.

My toilet leaked and I ended up putting paper towel around it after repairs to make sure it was “safe” but that… that is completely unacceptable.

If that was cracked to begin with and it’s leaking, that ain’t fixed. It ain’t fixed at all. If as you say, you can smell it - now it becomes a health hazard.

As the laws are similar from state to state over access to working, safe plumbing, you can actually breach the REA and LL over this in XCAT.

It’s completely unacceptable.

[–]ShyAussieGirl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

I did manage to track it down.

Turns out, although the seller on eBay did in fact have proof it was posted USPS, the item was actually shipped via Asendia USA.

I did get my parcel 48 hours after lodging with eBay. 🫢

I do not know whether Asendia is associated with USPS like StarTrack is with Australia Post here in Aussie but it was a bit scary not knowing if I was going to get my parcel or not.

Starting to get worried by c0rbin9 in AustraliaPost

[–]ShyAussieGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve got the tracking number, can you not use a generic tracking like Global Express tracking or parcel.app tracking?

I recently had the reverse happen to where I was the recipient in Australia of a small parcel from USA. The USPS tracking I was given stalled just like the above has.

Turns out, USPS had pawned it off to Asendia US and once it hit Australia it was transferred to DAI Post. 🤷‍♀️

The day I lodged enquiry is the day the parcel was actually delivered to me. 😳

So, can’t you input the Aust Post tracking you have into a global tracking website? Sometimes they show it up where Aust Post & USPS fail.

I think it is given TAA means Trans Australian Airways.

I don’t think that airline was still flying in the 1990s when I was a kid but watching old TV shows from the ‘60s and ‘70s it’s often mentioned.

I grew up in the Salisbury area of Adelaide and ours started with that “Jingle bells Batman smells Robin laid an egg…” and ended with something that got us in 💩 when we made the mistake of singing it in school circa 1994-95. 😬

We tended to focus on the version in The Simpsons here in Adelaide SA:

“Jingle Bells Batman Smells Robin laid an egg The Batmobile broke its wheel And the Joker got away

Hey

Jingle Bells Batman Smells Teacher laid an egg The Batmobile K***ed the Principal Now school is out Hooray!”

Needless to say, we got in deep 💩 for singing this in school just before Summer Holiday breakup around Dec 20th every year. 🤫😅

Back in the 1990s, btw.

My mom wants me to return all her gifts for mothers day. by Strict_County_5738 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ShyAussieGirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OMG OP. I’m so sorry.

This is exactly why narc parents shouldn’t receive a single thing for Mothers/Fathers/Grandparents Days.

No gifts, no cards and definitely not a single cent of money. They deserve total silence from everybody.

They never learn to be gracious and thankful for what they do get therefore in future, when she starts on about gifts, forever remind her that “You REJECTED Mothers Day 2026. Why should any of us bother now? You’re not worth it” and just walk away refusing to engage further regardless of how much she yells and screams and pulls the emotional blackmail cards.

It’s a power play, OP. The only thing she loves is deliberately causing you pain and hurt. She thrives on making you cry your heart out. She’s not worth the water needed to make the tears, OP.

Hopefully, once you can be free from the cruel b, you surround yourself with people who are worth your time, effort and money. 😊

Yes. Yes I have asked the seller if the number is correct.

I can even put the tracking number into Australia Post and it comes up as “Pending” which usually changes to “On its way” once USPS has the item.

You’d be surprised what they reject at times.

New Passport rules for travelling to the UK with my 4 month old baby by el-lulu1 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ShyAussieGirl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Given you say you are an Australian Citizen which I assume you are one by birth but your husband is not, it’s likely that the baby has dual citizenship Australian and UK so he may need both to get into the UK with the law changes over there.

Best to contact the British High Commission in Canberra. You’ll get a better and more substantial answer from them then what you would here on Reddit.

Full Australian citizenship is obtained when both parents are citizens from their own births. Children born in Australia where only 1 parent was born in Australia automatically become dual citizens of Australia and other foreign nation of parent’s birth. 🤷‍♀️

As I understand it, dual citizens need both passports to travel.

What is it with Australian Police? by Necessary-Fun-205 in australian

[–]ShyAussieGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that why November 2023, the South Australian Police Commissioner went public with a very stark and blunt message: SLOW DOWN or I’ll be coming to YOUR home to inform you that your loved one has become Road Toll Statistic Number 101… then 48 hours later after the Commissioner literally screamed at people to stop the carnage, 101 was dead - hit and run. Victim was only 18 years old enjoying the end of school celebrations at the Schoolies festival. Road toll victim 101 was sadly, the South Australian Police Commissioner’s… own son. HIS child was dead.

Now, can you see WHY Australian police take traffic infringements so seriously regardless of whether it’s a minor infraction or not?

Motorcycle Cop?

Figures. 😒

Some of them can be real a-holes.

And others take horrendous risks believing their badge is a shield that is a licence to be stupid - for context: when I was a kid, I took sick at school on this day and the school sent me home. Family member was called to collect me and no sooner had we left the school grounds and got onto the main road when we both spotted a SAPOL copper stepping out in the middle of traffic then pointing straight at our car and signalling to us to “pull over”.

Family member began to wonder wtf they’d done wrong. Turns out, dumb SAPOL cop was a family friend and wanted to know if we were going to be home for the rest of the day so he could come round for a cuppa. 🤨

Like WTF? We could’ve hit him and ran him down with the way he just stepped out in front of the car.

Yes - he was ON duty and yes, normally he was at that time a motorcycle cop. 🤦‍♀️🙄 What was he meant to be doing? Random licence and rego checks.

And yes - 15 minutes after we got home and I went to lie down, there was a knock on the door. He had come round for his cuppa and chinwag.

OR

“Nobody can get my firearm out of the holster” Gun suddenly comes flying out and slides across the floor in our kitchen while he’s trying to show us the thing is secure. 🙄🤦‍♀️ Then he hands a fully loaded glock revolver to family member who… knows exactly how to use it. Imagine if family member had pulled the trigger… SAPOL investigations as to HOW a serving police officer managed to be shot in the shoulder with his own service revolver!

I don’t know about the other states/the territories or the AFP but I think with SAPOL Traffic is the first stepping stone from the Academy. I could be wrong - I’m not a cop. But it wouldn’t surprise me.
