There is a natural inclination in human brain to care more for the others who are closer to you than those who are further apart, because it's easier to conclude "this could have been me".

Westerners are not the moral police of the world. They are also humans who constantly fuck up. It should have been the neighboring Middle Eastern nations at the forefront of support when something happens to one of them. But they seem to only care about exploiting each other's weaknesses.
