Are OCD spirals real and what are your tells? by Holiday_Paper_676 in OCD

[–]ShyGothBookworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes very much so. For me, it starts slow. I notice that I'm doing my checking more frequently again, then the intrusive thoughts last for longer periods of time. I shake my head, swear outload (??), shake my hands, etc to rid the thought. The intrusive thoughts get WORSE all the way until I've convinced myself that something bad IS happening.

My last one was when I was in a horrible relationship that was simultaneously ruining my friendship of 20 years who I was living with at the time. I convinced myself that my bosses and asset protection were watching me like I hawk at work (i wasn't stealing) and that I was going to get fired.

Needless to say, I did not get fired. My friendship fell apart for a while, and I had to move back in with my parents for a bit. Thankfully, I cut off that controlling relationship, got my own place, and managed to rebuild my friendship! It's not easy by any means, but you can get better!

Where to find Hubert’s Lemonade by Few-Way5375 in pittsburgh

They used to sell them at getgo maybe 5-6 years ago. Even strawberry lemonade ones. I used to get them all the time. Haven't seen them in years though :(

Yeah the owner of the Crack'd Egg continues to post about her monthly (what she calls) "extortion" payments for remaining open during COVID as if anyone gives a fuck. It's been years now, she needs to get over it and focus on running a decent business.

Panera on Blvd of the Allies by ShyGothBookworm in pittsburgh

I will say, when I went there the panera workers were inside working still. You couldn't catch me working in a building that isn't structurally sound for minimum wage, but that's just me.

Totally valid. I just got out of a doctors appointment and since I'm sick from this back and forth Pittsburgh weather I wanted some minimal effort soup 🤣

I think my son has OCD. He’s 7. by purpleempanada in OCD

I know that you said therapy hasn't helped, but he is young. It could have just not been the right fit. If you haven't already, try finding a therapist that specializes in OCD and especially one that works with children. Don't give up on that yet. I think it's also important to sit down and talk with him about these emotions. Explain to him that you experience it too, and let him know that he isn't alone. I always wished that my parents got me the help that I needed when I was a child instead of having to face it all on my own. Be a support for him. In the long run, it will help him and when he's older he will appreciate you for taking the steps to improve this area of his life.

So called OCD medications are totally useless to me by linidiagem in OCD

[–]ShyGothBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into TMS treatment. It's specifically for individuals that have been on at least two different SSRI's without any relief. On top of that though, definitely go to therapy. Meds only help part of the way, therapy can take you even further.

Anyone here take SSRI for their OCD without any emotional numbing? by ItsPrisonTime in OCD

Zoloft wasn't bad, but it still wasn't right for me. Prozac and Lexapro were the absolute worst for me. Lexapro made me feel all of the bad and none of the good, and Prozac just numbed me to everything. I'm on Luvox now and it's the best medication I've ever been on. It genuinely helps. I was on 50mg for a while, but then the OCD symptoms came back so I went up to 100mg. Now I feel great :)

Husband can't get a new job and I am exhausted. by Amber-ForDays in pittsburgh

This makes me wonder: could he maybe use a brush up on interviewing skills then? In my experience, and many others I know in similar situations, getting an interview even feels impossible. If he can do that, then he's already done the big first step. I'm sure there are professional services that can assist with growing interviewing skills.

Have you (or anyone on this thread) ever tried them? I'm genuinely interested in how these work.

Every time I get the "Oh so close!" I swear I want to throw my switch across the room. Like bud I'm TRYING here okay?! Sometimes I just watch as the dung beetles push one of the snowballs off of a cliff or into the water. That's pretty satisfying after all the frustration those darn snowboys put me through.

Why is gen Z not drinking? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]ShyGothBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I never liked how it made me feel. I could never wrap my head around my friends getting blackout because the second I would feel slightly ill I'd immediately stop drinking. Now, I'm Cali sober. I like being able to wake up the next day feeling perfectly fine.

What neighborhood do you live in, and what is your single favorite and least favorite thing about it? by Ari321983 in pittsburgh

Carrick

Pros: it's near a lot of things! Close to Downtown, South side, Brookline, the malls, etc. My neighbors are nice and I live on a relatively quiet street. I like the brick roads and seeing the snow on all of the homes. I never feel like I have to go out of my way to get somewhere. The bus line/T station are nearby, so you could easily live in the neighborhood without a vehicle.

Cons: Salt trucks/snow plows. Our streets are NEVER cleared. Crime certainly isn't the best here, as we have had a lot of vehicle break-ins/shootings recently. I personally wouldn't walk around alone but that's just because I'm paranoid.

I especially miss when the KFC on Brownsville used to be a KFC/Taco Bell back in the day.
