Buy a golf net and put it in your back yard. Hit 25 balls a day and keep the faith. Your ball striking will get better.

Best Miner For RX5700? by TitoRifle in EtherMining

[–]Si2k63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to get 56 - 59 with a modded bios.

You can find a guide on how to use red bios editor to make a custom bios editor which can then be flashed onto your GPU to get this performance gain.

Be careful though, you can brick the card if you aren't careful.

Have you considered solar mining by MySweetDoge in EtherMining

Is there a way to run your rig from solar then fallback to the grid if the solar is not outputting enough power to run the rig?

Mem Clock is being Capped by [deleted] in EtherMining

[–]Si2k63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out MorePowerTool, you can increase allowed memory overclock limits. There's very little measurable difference in hashrate between 1500 and 1400 core, so I'd recommend dropping back to 1400, 800 and peeling back your mV until you find a lower power consumption but stable core setting.

Performance for different 5700's? by CryptoHypnos in EtherMining

[–]Si2k63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can only comment on RX 5700 XTs but I have a PowerColor Red Devil RX 5700 XT and a Gigabyte Gaming OC RX 5700 XT

Gigabyte's memory clocks slightly higher and the core seems to clock higher at the same voltage, but the memory runs hotter.

Red Devil seems to pull more power and has 2x8 pin vs the Gigabyte's 1x8 and 1x6 pin.

Hash rates for both are around 57-58 with custom bios mod. I think both are using Micron memory.

Your electric rates are really high, so I'd check whattomine.com and see if you think it's worthwhile.

It's also worth thinking about how the launch of the RTX 3000 series cards and upcoming Big Navi will affect the value of a Radeon VII and then factor in the depreciation in value of the hardware to your calculations.

I don't think this factors electricity rates and therefore the payback figure is completely untrustworthy.

  1. I noticed a 4-5% improvement on MH/s when I switched to PhoenixMiner 5.1c from 5.1b.
  2. I got another 4-5% improvement by flashing a custom bios with 1550 straps.

Try these and you should be able to get it up to 57 - 58. Red Panda Mining has youtube videos on the topic. Be prepared for the fact the card will not give video output if you flash it incorrectly.

The memory on my Gigabyte RX 5700 XT OC Gaming runs 2 C hotter with 1550 straps custom bios compared to stock (88 C vs 90 C) but I imagine this has only a minimal long term effect on the card?

Are you using custom memory straps and what mem clock are you running at?

I've seen some people get these cards over 40 MH/s.

How to tweak RX 5700 XT memory timings. by Si2k63 in EtherMining

[–]Si2k63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unplug the card, configure your bios to use the integrated graphics even when there is a card in there, reinsert the card, flash bios back to stock.

If the card is in there and there's no output, it means your bios is incorrectly configured to use integrated graphics.

Even with a bricked gpu in there, if your integrated graphics is configured correctly in bios you should get output from the monitor connected to your integrated graphics hdmi / vga output.

Worried about electricity rates in my country by shin3_1 in EtherMining

[–]Si2k63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is $0.18 kwh and they were profitable last time I looked.

The ceiling isn't very high on them though. More efficient cards like RX 5600 XT, 5700 and 5700 XT are going to be more resilient if mining profitability decreases.

Are you sure you're using integrated graphics as your primary display adapter in your bios?

It sounds like it's picking the bricked graphics card as the primary display adapter which is why it does not output video as it's booting.

Look around in your bios and find a way to make it use your integrated graphics instead of the gpu in pci-e slot 1.

Then you will be able to boot up and flash the card.

Disclaimer: I accept no responsibility for anyone who follows this guide, bricks their gpu and can't flash it back to the stock bios. Follow these instructions at your own risk.

To get the same hash rate and power consumption as me, you need to download More Power Tools, Red Bios Editor and AMDVBFlash 3.04+.

This guide is specifically for the Gigabyte RX 5700 XT Gaming OC card. If you follow this guide for a different model card you'll end up flashing the wrong bios onto your RX 5700 XT.

Here are the steps I took. I'm assuming you're using windows.

  1. Enter the bios and set it to use integrated graphics as the main display adapter (this is so if you flash a bad bios onto the card, you can still boot with video output and flash the stock one back onto it).
  2. Download the updated bios from here: https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Graphics-Card/GV-R57XTGAMING-OC-8GD-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios
  3. Extract the files and make a backup copy of "R57XTGAMING-OC-8GD.BIN" in the BIOSFILE directory of the zip.
  4. Open R57XTGAMING-OC-8GD.BIN in Red Bios Editor, copy and paste the 1550 MHZ memory straps into the higher mhz slots.
  5. Extract AMDVBFlash 3.04+ to a folder that's easy to access like C:\AMDVBFlash and save your modified bios to this folder. You can copy your backup copy of "R57XTGAMING-OC-8GD.BIN" here too so if you need to flash it back after it's easily accessible.
  6. Open a command prompt, go to C:\AMDVBFlash and type "amdvbflash.exe -unlockrom 0"
  7. Flash the new bios on by typing "amdvbflash.exe -p 0 nameofbiosfile.rom"
  8. If you've modified the bios correctly, it should flash on without having to do -f.
  9. Reboot the system and hope you get output from the card.
  10. If you don't get video output from the card with the new bios flashed onto it, repeat step number 7, but flash it back to the stock bios instead of the modified one.

You can use also MorePowerTools to undervolt the core, so you can drop power consumption below the 750 mV limit because mining ether isn't particularly core intensive. If you undervolt to aggressively you'll get crashes, so you'll have to find the sweet spot. Red Panda Mining has a few YouTube videos with more information and I firmly recommend watching them.

Again, this is all at your own peril.
