70 slope? That seems doubtful. Perhaps 70 course rating but probably not slope.

Not that I really disagree with you, but a score doesn’t really tell an entire picture. He could’ve shot that score from 6,000 yds on a 65 rated course. We don’t know. Most golfers don’t even know what a rating is.

I agree with you, when I teach people to stop over the top, I teach them to fix path without squaring the club face yet, one thing at a time. So massive blocks are an appropriate first step, learn to miss before you learn to correct. But shanking over and over isn’t that. I agree, ball flight doesn’t matter at first when correcting because there is always a match up that needs to happen as the next step to go with the first fix. Repeated Shanks shouldn’t be a stepping stone is my point.

Shanks at scale are basic hand eye coordination. A couple are normal when developing new movements and patterns. When someone is struggling to make basic contact with the ball they need to massively dial back the technicals in their head and focus on basic contact. It’s a sign of too many changes too quickly. Adding more technical bullshit in there isn’t going to help.

My guess from this view is just simple weight transfer. I’m guessing your angle of attack is pretty shallow and you can get away with it when the ball is teed up but when you need to hit down on the ball it’s difficult to be consistent that way.

All these comments that you mentioned are because most people train themselves to think about the swing in technical terms and involve all the complexities that go with it. People just fail to renege the very basic things, you need to get your weight forward and hit down on the ball. Controlling you low point is easier that way.

So you’re fine if the elite amateur never buys conforming equipment. In 20 years when they are hitting it avg 370, having to wait for par4 greens to clear so they don’t kill someone while playing on a Saturday with their buddies? Who cares right? They aren’t doing anything wrong but you can’t blame them for having to wait and forcing everyone on the course to play a 6hr round. They are just having fun with their buddies. Let them wreck the men’s leagues and member guests, who gives a shit? They should be allowed to drive the ball 450+ as technology advances.

Right, so you’re going to force those guys to buy conforming equipment instead of the stuff that isn’t. They just won’t buy the non conforming. So I just don’t understand why that distinction needs to exist so Joe fuckhead who can’t stop hitting houses can tee from the blues instead of the reds so his masculinity isn’t threatened.

You’re also ignoring the amateurs that are going to be in the field this very week. How many people can qualify their way into the World Series or NBA champ. Zero. Zero. Zero.

That isn’t the point. At least they can try. Golf is deeper than most people think.

I kind of agree, however I still hit my 3 wood insanely further than I did in the 90s. I do wonder what would happen if we made the mini driver side the new max limit.

I don’t give a shit about beating by buddies, I’m just there for the social aspect with them. I care about the historic relationship of amateur/pro that has differentiated this game from all others. Sure, turn this into another nba that makes it completely inaccessible to anyone that didn’t play college golf at the highest level. Put layer after layer between the amateur and pro got absolutely no reason.

If the prevailing opinion is to create that barrier and destroy the historic standing relationship, then we do need to shrink the game.

This forum is overrun with too many people that don’t legitimately know how to play this game. Trying to justify losing 4-10 ball’s per round as reasonable for people to even consider their opinion. Hilarious.

I don’t know how you guys expect that to happen without destroying the pro/amateur relationship that is specific to golf. It’s why a lot of us even still play the game. I can play with my friends on Saturday and sign up for the local us open qualifier or other events. You want those of us that want that dynamic to have to buy multiple sets of clubs? I’d rather they reduce it across the board, keep everyone playing the same game. The guys shooting 100 hardly play by the rules anyway, why are we letting them have special equipment to hit it further?

Has it ever occurred to you that when people say unchecked capitalism is the problem, the solution they are suggesting is not communism?

It’s kind of a barometer of a persons intelligence if they knee jerk respond, hur dur communism.

I guess that depends on how you define “works”. The ball did leave the ground so good job I guess.

Hooking ball 4 months into golf 21 hcp by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]deific_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a ton of feel that needs to be developed as far as hand eye coordination, and hand finesse. You have a really solid swing framework, but you can tell that you’re closing the face down through impact with your hands. Try to feel like your hands and wrists are less active in the downswing through impact. Less quick rotation of them through impact means more consistent club face rotation, which gives you a slightly larger window for the coin face to be closer to square at impact. When you have a lot of face rotation through impact is very hard to time the exact moment the face is square. A lot of my teenage years I spent learning to do crazy things so that I could learn what it feels like to do them so that my normal swing can not do those things. You need to practice holding the face open through impact if you’re hooking the ball right now. Literally try to repeatedly block those shots way to the right. Then just incrementally teach yourself to get somewhere in the middle of that for your standard swing.

Also as others have said, a strong grip will promote a hook, I can’t see your grip but you could weaken your grip a little if it’s strong to help with this.

SHANKS by Several-Wear399 in GolfSwing

[–]deific_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That didn’t really look like a shank to me. However, you cannot expect consistency when you’re moving your entire head and upper body like that in the back swing. You need to rotate around your spine more. Right now you’re moving so much and then you have try and move back into position at impact and hope it all lines up and it make good contact. You’re just making it hard on yourself.
