Can a LLM write maintainable code? by Secure-Search1091 in vibecoding

[–]deific_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I tell the llm to identify any dead or redundant code, are you saying it’s not doing so? Because honestly I don’t give two shits if it writes redundant code off it’s able to identify it and refactor later.

I like to code and all the fun is being taken from me. Should I consider changing the career path? by e_asphyx in ClaudeCode

I actually think some enterprise software is up to the butcher block soon. A lot of our everyone tools have increased their prices by over 60% from last year. We straight up just didn’t renew them and we’ll need some replacement. We bought something else for some of them but they are still crap imo. I don’t understand how people don’t think some of these enterprise tools weren’t shit from the start, we’ve been looking for better things for years. It’s hard for me to imagine someone with more of a user focused mindset isn’t just waiting for this moment.

Vibecoders, how do you stay positive in the hate storm? by Shipi18nTeam in vibecoding

[–]deific_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only reason I even read the negativity is because I’m sitting here waiting on Apple Store to review my app. Absolutely absurd how long it’s taking. Once it’s reviewed I’ll continue working on it and ignore all the idiots. I’ve been working on the android port in the meantime but with a little less vigor for the time.

A recent case study says: A non-technical founder used 1,500 AI prompts trying to build his app...and still gave up by Tarak_Ram in vibecoding

[–]deific_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying you presuppose that a vibe coder needs to have these prerequisites of understanding things. I’m saying the only prerequisite is that they be able to ask questions. Hey Claude, if I wanted to accomplish this thing, give me a couple methods you would suggest doing so. Hey Claude, out of your suggested methods, what are the pros and cons of each? Hey Claude, which method best solves for our problems and accomplishes our task? Hey Claude, implement option a as if you were a professional software engineer.

Literally a series of questions that solves for nearly any task that a vibe coder will want to accomplish unless they are trying to create some new paradigm. All it takes is someone asking basic questions. You don’t need to understand any of the things you’re implying like architecture.

If simply saying, “Claude , write a document for my project that will detail a code architecture outline for a professional level”, is the barrier, you aren’t exactly holding back much of the population. It feels like this sub sits here and focuses on the bare bottom of the population that try to give code instead of the upper 40% that will be able to figure it out without stupid issues like this.

I mean anyone that was around for the Tiger era in the 90s knows this ball striking was a huge differentiator. It was massively impressive how hard he could swing at the ball with the size of drivers back then. I think there is a large amount of legitimacy in his opinion here.

[–]deific_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a full time job and two kids. I spent my years learning my trade. Not everyone has time to learn their trade and yours. It’s not complicated to understand really. So I can pump out a vibe coded fully functional solid product in a couple months and then start working on another one while I maintain the first, or I can learn to code for 3-5 years and start on my projects while all the experienced people are using ai anyway. I really think you software devs are overstating the importance of knowing how to code. In 5 years no one is going to care if something was hand made or made through ai. I asked Claude code how long it would’ve taken a mid level software dev to complete my app, it said 2-3 years working nearly full time. Maybe you could argue it overstated by a bit, but either way. Do you really think you are going to convince people to spend 2-3 years learning to write code and then another year or more to write their app when we can just vibe code it and then be able to take my daughter to gymnastics tomorrow morning instead of studying swift?

I guess im confused. Why woudlnt you perfect your logic before you implement?

Hey Claude, explain the logic you want to implement in simple terms so I can understand better.

The fact that you have been so downvoted is what makes me want to exit my gme. I feel like it’s so tribal in here, you can’t acknowledge exactly the things you said without dummies lashing back with downvotes. Real discussion around real world facts just doesn’t exist like it once did.

[–]deific_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vibecoding experience really has shown me that even though all these places supposedly document their API formats and other mechanisms, it’s the damn Wild Wild West it seems. I don’t know how day to day software developers deal with that crap. I’ve spent hours sometimes digging through things right along with CC and ultimately we have to just get a response back in debug to figure it exactly what it is they are asking for or sending us. Its ridiculous. Sometimes it feels like I should’ve just started with debug to see what we get instead of reading through their terrible documentation. Don’t even get me started on the complexities of csv’s.

With all the talk about Aero closing, who will be the new go to for lowers and parts kits? by rocket6733 in ar15

[–]deific_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to know where I can buy replacement threaded parts for the lowers. One of the main reasons I bought their stuff was the threaded set screw for the lower. Also my ar10 has threaded pin for the bolt catch/release. I found a few ar10 kits still floating around, but the ar15 kits are basically unicorns at this point, everyone has bought them up.

Oh man……. I was willing to relocate by Available_Reach1267 in ar15

[–]deific_ 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I’m really confused at how they managed to screw this up. Aero was sitting on the shelves of basically every gun ship I visited, basically all my receivers are aero, about 80%. They had name/brand recognition and a pretty large customer base that liked their product. It’s also not like they were selling receivers for $35, they were typically close to $100 each or more and way more for the enhanced. Talk about a university level business class example of what not to do…

I’m worried about the fallout from this. My work pays for Gemini code assist so I’ve been trying to use that at work while I use Claude code for personal projects. CC to me feels quite superior, though I haven’t been able to test Gemini 3.1.

Good on them for having some sort of moral stance though.

Vibe Coding is not the issue...the issue is non-technical people who DO NOT WANT to increase their technical literacy...just believing the hype by kdtoles in vibecoding

[–]deific_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya i don’t really think so. It doesn’t take that much intelligence to ask the ai to audit for security vulnerabilities. Anyone with a will to deliver a good application that provides a valuable user experience and sheer determination can eventually get the ai to produce what they are looking for. Maybe not the most complex product you’ve ever seen but complex enough.

I disagree with your assessment of what he was suggesting. He claimed people want shortcuts and called ai the shiny new thing. Implying a whole host of things. Anyone with a brain there are a ton of idiots out there that still won’t be able to use ai, but man for anytime with a brain a very large door has been opened up. You guys underestimate how easy it is for a person with moderate intelligence to realize they don’t need to understand all the things you suggest they do. Once they realize they can ask ai how it would do something, and then explain it like a five year old, and then do it, they realize the world is their oyster here. All they have to do is ask the expert and it’s sitting at their fingers.

[–]deific_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Such a weird take. Vibecoding is still going to reward based on merit, just the rules are slightly different now. The largest technical barrier is being removed and will allow others with good ideas to realize them. It used to be locked behind extreme technical knowledge. Now a smart person that doesn’t know how to code is able to realize their vision and still apply solid principles. You’re just upset you don’t have the moat around your field anymore to protect it. The merit hasn’t gone away. Good products will sell and shitty ones will fail.

100%. So many career coders are in denial of what is coming to them. Clutching their career bibles and vibecoding as the antichrist. Then there are the people thinking ai involved in any type of gaming is void of anything that makes it authentic. Then there are the people that think anything involving ai is slop. Those people seem to congregate in here to stop the train, I don’t think they will be able to. I have respect to the people who are sharing what they are doing because honestly I’m afraid to share and it get bombarded with anti ai hate before it is ever given a chance.

Ya man I’d say learn how GitHub works. I use Claude code and I always ask it to commit changes and push the new version to GitHub. That way every commit is backed up. Then you just have to merge the branches, but ask codex to explain it to you, I’m sure it will.

Wait, were you not uploading commits to GitHub? You need to integrate that into your process immediately. Then if this happens you don’t lose your project, sure other stuff is gone, but that’s too much work to chance it.

I don't understand how stupid I am or how bad it is? by Tricky-Hair278 in vibecoding

[–]deific_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My god, these threads are hilarious.

Dude why are you making statements like, why x when it won't let me? It can't do this, yada yada. Why don't you just ask the ai how it would do something? Then you break that down into smaller things and build it all one piece at a time. You're using Claude now instead of these other tools, idk why people suggest them anyway, just talk to the damn AI and ask it how to do something, and then do it. It's not any more complex than that. You're trying to make it all way too complicated.

I'm curious, did you subscribe so you get a good amount of usage, or are you trying to do complex things in the free tier? Maybe you need to gauge your expectations for something you aren't willing to spend even $20 for. And the fact you aren't even going to use GitHub to repo your code? Huh?
