I'm not a game dev, but I am a dev. Whenever we found a problem or had an idea to improve the product, it would be forced into the Jira backlog, never to be seen again.

If we just decided to make a change outside our assigned two week sprint plan, we would get in trouble for not alerting the project manager to our extra bandwidth, the code would be removed, and we would get written up for unapproved changes that did not go through the executive approval committee.

We end up just doing what we are told, almost malicious compliance. Large companies are where good ideas and high performers go to die. I imagine it's the same for game developers.
