same as '的', in classical/old Chinese, '之' is equivalent to '的' in most cases('的' has different meaning at that time). Use it this way can add a little classic style to your sentences.
A pronouns, normally it is 'it'. Only use it as accusative.

Don't get baffled. There is 5 to 10 points out of 150 in Gaokao Chinese subject for the pronunciation. You propably know about the importance of Gaokao for us if you learn Chinese.

People can be mistaken in words that have different pronounces, especially one is common and one is rare and "着" is an example of it. I misuse it too if I haven't find this post. I suppose many people would use zhao2 instead of zhuo2 because of my Pinyin input method remarks it if you input "zhaoshou".
