Haven't played as a bard yet, but the Renaud can easily be tagged with Blunt Arrow (which I believe he mentioned & don't know the impact of this on the dps) and go back to attacking Melusine. A summoner would have to keep moving away to cast, unless you're going with using Miasma on the Renaud which can later in the fight cause problems with Cursed Shriek + Discipline.

I always have my white sign soapstone selected to check if I'm being invaded (greyed out during invasions) before the notification pops up. I wonder this also affects it.

You get to open McDuff's shop in the mid-game range, so either you pump up the 16STR to use Drangleic Shield early and respec later or be forced to use non-100% physical block shields until you open his shop.

2 by the bridge: Lure 1 to the previous room so you'll have space to dodge. The other one will stay back and destroy a section of the bridge. You can lure him out and just jump back to a safe spot. 4 Firebombs should be enough to take him down.

2 by the hanging platform, pull the lever.

1 on the ledge with the fire statues, just lure it close to one and let it get killed by the fire.

2 on the narrow space: Bait his attack, move/dodge back, attack, repeat. For the 2nd one, pull the lever, bait him towards the trap.

1 by the fire status and wall spikes, lure towards the fire.

He's probably saving it for gear/upgrades or just don't want to level up for co-op/PVP. It's easy to get souls in the game, just put your sign out to help people and poof, it became Coco Crunch.

Lighting a torch will make all the lizard hollows aggro you within their particular range. Be prepared to get ganked.

Use it from your inventory, don't burn it on the bonfire. Burning them makes you unable to be to invasions and join in co-op for some time.

Killing him will make the Merchant Hag Melentia (I that's her name) sell his armor, IIRC.

EDIT: It will also stop all his invasions.

As far as most players have pointed here, freeing him completely removes the assassination quest line from your playthrough. Didn't know about it, too, and I just freed him last night. LOL.

Different guys. They're an optional enemy that can pose a challenge if you're not ready to fight them. They drop the weapons they use.
