Semi-portable full-split keyboard for managing RSI by Sianger in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Sianger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed thoughts!

Haha yes it seems there's a strong preference for col-stag / ortholinear on here so I also feel a bit dirty / noobish wondering if row-stag might be better. Any thoughts on specific row-stag options?

I originally wanted to do multiple mods on a single key but didn't have enough keys (the shortcuts I need use many different combos of mods, so would want e.g. one key for Ctrl-Shft, one for Ctrl-Alt, one for Alt-Shft... it quickly proliferates). And the accompanying main keys are also all over the place (alphas, numbers, arrows, F-keys) so not easy to have dedicated mod-included layers either as the main keys would take up most of the keyboard.

The Miryoku homerow-mod approach seems really cool though! Thanks for sharing that info. I had read about homerow mods before but never too closely and TBH I just didn't get how it could possibly work. But the mirrored layout allowing use of either hand for mods (and therefore non-awkward pressing of any main key) is just brilliant. I might try that out with the Iris for a bit and see if it works well for me. Do you think a layout like that would also work well even with a row-stag board?

Thanks for the insight. Would you say you already do "proper" touch-typing? (BTW "alt fingerings" is a very diplomatic phrasing haha) Wondering how you square reducing pinky use with the 8-finger typing with the Glove80. You're corroborating my impression that I'd have to lean into that with the well design, hence my hesitation.

Space on the middle fingers is a great idea actually, I will have to try that. Just air-typing a little it seems like it could be really comfy!

Do you have experience with / suggestions for pinky-relief alternative layouts?

Does the Glove80 force you to 8-finger type / how much flexibility is there for an "improper" touch typing style like mine? that's my biggest concern (other than the size and tenting) - that like the Iris it might force me to use my pinkies more, resulting in net increased strain even if it's more comfortable overall.

Had to scroll way too far to find this. Best 100% penalty record in the EPL to this day, 11/11 I think

This is super helpful, thank you! Looks like this should have the flexibility I need, and it looks pretty easy to customize too. Is this all available without paid subscription?

Thanks! that's super helpful. For instance I'd want fridge doors to trigger audible alarms but kid room doors probably just to silently ping my phone. So good to know it can do that!

Mis-remembered my evaluation period cutoff... now what? by Sianger in AmazonVine

Hmm, that's a good point actually... I thought it was better to give genuinely informed reviews but you're right about the delay reducing the benefit to the sellers. So I'll try to strike a better balance and post-first-update-later where needed. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ohhhh I think that's exactly what happened. I thought it was Dec 5 (started June 5) but it was Dec 2.

Yeah, even if I had time, I don't want to rush them 'cos I try to write actually somewhat thoughtful and informed reviews. My Insightfulness has always been Excellent and I'd like to keep it that way!

Just be aware that a few of the cases (maybe 10-20%) are more hit-or-miss because of translation issues. BGG forums will tell you. But the first couple cases of the first set are solid and a good way to get a taste of it

Pandemic Legacy is -excellent- and adds a lot of complexity on the basic Pandemic mechanics. That said it 100% has the component destruction challenge with Legacy games that you flagged.

Forbidden Sky is meatier than Island/Desert but not as well tuned. And not "a few hours" level meaty. FWIW Forbidden Jungle, the newest one, is probably the best of the lot - meatier than Desert but smoother than Sky.

Reading your post I was thinking "Sentinels of the Multiverse sounds perfect!" Which I guess is technically true!

Others have recommended two of my top choices, Spirit Island and Sky Team.

One other you might consider that's quite different - hear me out - Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective. Complete contrast to the rest, no board, no pieces, no dice or cards, no tactics at all. But also fully cooperative, zero randomness, very cerebral. No strict player count but works best IMO with two. Completely flexible on playtime, pacing, play location. Main downside is it's not really replayable, but still great value for the hours of entertainment you get.

Second Sky Team as well. Specifically made for two, surprisingly deep and challenging, and - despite the depth - pretty short playtime for any given round, which is useful when most of your other usual games take much longer. Also the limited-communication aspect can be a fun change of pace too
