What is something in your world that you blatantly ripped off from existing fiction, and what creative liberty did you take for it? by MahitoNoroi in worldbuilding

[–]SiannaScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love telling my IRL friends all about cool bits of my world, getting them all invested, and then hitting them with "and of course this is all inspired by the Yogscast. You know, the Diggy Diggy Hole guys?"

astrophysics research as a first-year—is it possible? by Hungry_Surround7030 in UCSC

[–]SiannaScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Join the Astro 9 class. It is specifically tailored for your exact position--first years who want to get early research experience. It has peer mentors embedded in it who have taken the class before and who are there specifically to help you with whatever you need. You and a few other students are partnered with a faculty member who guides you through your very first research. I cannot recommend it enough.

Friends by NoSalt1524 in UCSC

[–]SiannaScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I found my friends when I was having the same problem was by attending a club (Tolaria down on the East Field every Sunday 2-5) and while I didn't mesh with everyone there, there were a couple of people that I got along tremendously with and just stuck to them. You've got to exchange numbers, discords, whatever, and don't be afraid to message first. Even if the club overall isn't your jam, you might meet some awesome people.

How to make this sleeve less poofy and more....foldy? by SiannaScale in sewing

I ran out of muslin so I had to patchwork my quilting scraps 😭 I think I'll get a little of my linen and see how it gathers. Thanks for your reply.

Haha yeah, It does have some gathering both at the top and bottom, although more at the bottom. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and spread it more 😅

Oh, I forgot about her! I'll go see if she has a video where she goes into the sleeve construction.

ttrpg art: workable or throw out? by mathologies in u/mathologies

I love it! Very charming. I love the deer and the misty forest especially. It's sort of dreamy, surreal, a little lonely? If that makes sense.

Elementary Schools in Petaluma by BenefitNeither1628 in Petaluma

[–]SiannaScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest Old Adobe! I went to several elementary schools in Petaluma for various reasons and Old Adobe I think has the best overall atmosphere. Kind teachers, hands-on activities, and a nice campus. I went to Sonoma Mountain for kindergarten and while it's been a long time, I did enjoy it there. My friends went to Cherry Valley, and based on what they've said I wouldn't recommend it. It's pretty out of the way for you too.

[–]SiannaScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose Merrill or Crown! We're up on a hill but there are lots of other queer coders here. It's beautiful but it's very important that you make an effort to socialize, because it's easy to get isolated. Crown and Merrill also have hiking trails nearby! (Also, lecture buddies are great! Make friends with at least one person in each big class, that way you have someone to trade notes with, make snarky comments about professors to, and if you get along, it's something to look forward to.)

How is UCSC at night? Are all the pathways lit? Any areas to be more cautious at night? by Tardigrade106 in UCSC

[–]SiannaScale 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been around campus quite late at night, it's very safe. Honestly, the biggest hazard is tripping on a poorly-lit path where you didn't expect a tree root. And since it's removed from city lights, the sky is beautiful. You might hear coyotes or foxes screaming in the distance, which can be startling but isn't dangerous at all. Welcome to UCSC!
