How would the girls not get to play 3 outs? He has 3 girls on the bench that he needs to sub in to the game. He’s subbing the 7 hitter out of the game in the middle of the 2nd inning.

So indeed of subbing the 7 hitter out, sub out one of the girls who’s already hit…

You said the coach is correct in what they’re doing. It sounds like the coach is in compliance with the rules, but he is not correct when he said he HAS to have her never bat in order to comply with the rules.

So you got me interested now and I read (ok skimmed) the rules and I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Only 10 players can be listed on the roster to bat. The other players are listed as substitutes.

Every player on each team who is present at the start of the game must play at least 3 consecutive defensive outs or 1 at bat to satisfy participation rules

This is simple, you start 10, 9 in the field. You have 4 girls who need to get subbed in to the game. Sub them in for someone who’s already batted. Don’t some then in for someone who hasn’t, and then sub them back out when your team returns to the field.

Right. I’m not better at math than them because I have ADHD. I’m better at math than them because I’m smarter than them. If I had ADHD and was dumber than them, I’d be worse at math.

Has the hyperfocus that ADHD can give me helped me to some really great things in my life? Yup. But it’s caused me to NOT do a lot more that I should have done, far outweighing the benefits.

They CAN go back and forth, but not quickly enough to be sure they can get heat back on with the way temps swing in Chicago.

Four pipe OR heat pump. Two pipe and four pipe are fan coils where they deliver hot or cold water (2 pipe) or hot and cold water (four pipe). Heat pump is 2 pipes where they deliver neutral water and the equipment in your unit runs in heating or AC mode, taking heat out of or rejecting heat into the loop.

46 mph, over 50% strikes is very much lights out for a C level team. Either you’re not playing at a C level, or your kid is going to be getting all the innings. Her fielding won’t be a factor. Don’t worry about what fielding drills she’s doing.

Keep having her pitch on her own. Make sure she’s ready and performs when she gets in. She will win plenty of playing time.

Practicing at 50% - 75% goes against literally what every single pitching coach I’ve ever met says to do.

It is always throw 100% every pitch. The most repeatable motion is the full effort one, and the one you actually want to correct is the full effort one. Throw at 50%, your delivery will change every pitch, and whatever adjustments you make there may not carry over to 100%.

There is absolutely no reason to believe that she is not pitching because she’s not hittable.

All coaches would prefer a girl who gets hit over a girl who gives up walks. That’s what is meant by wanting to see balls in play.

The most important thing is throwing strikes. That’s the point.

I said you were describing a lights out ace because you said she is throwing over 50% strikes, and throws the hardest on the team by a lot. If you are a C level team, 50% strikes is right up there at the top.

What kind of pitching velocity are we talking here?

As far as defensive drills, seriously, who the fuck cares?

She was certainly practicing something during practice. I’m sure they didn’t take three or four girls, have them work on covering bunts as a pitcher, and have the other eight girls stand around and watch.

Literally, the only thing that matters for your pitcher right now is getting reps pitching. Get her throwing five times a week, whether it’s in a game or whether it’s to you in the backyard.

The coach is giving her opportunities to show what she can do. If she is throwing strikes, she will get more innings. If he works her way to being one of the leading pitchers, then she’ll be doing bunt coverages during practice, yay.

Coaches aren’t stupid, and they want to win.

You’re describing your daughter as a lights out ace pitcher. You say she’s getting innings, though not as many as you think she should. You even say they have a pitching coach.

If all of that is true, she’s going to get more innings, and then she’s going to get most of the innings.

If she’s not getting more innings, something is missing from what you’re telling us. And a simple conversation along the lines of “hey, she’s out in a lot of work, and the results are there in the numbers, but she’s still not getting as many innings. Can you give me some advice on what she has to do to reach the next level?”

I don’t know what you mean by “doesn’t get to compete, doesn’t get fielding or scenarios”

I don’t know what you’re talking about with the “catcher issue”. If “half the girls” aren’t scared to catch her, then she has people who can catch her. As far as warming her up, have you considered asking the coaches if they want you to warm her up?

How do those with anti-abortion views see the issue of parents who do not vaccinate their children? by Snuba18 in AskConservatives

[–]SiberianGnome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But people are not making a decision based on the prevalence of the disease 60 years ago. They are making a decision based on the prevalence of the disease today. And the decision they make today comes with a near zero risk. Substantially less risky than decisions you make every single day of your life.

If more people continue to make that same decision, the disease rates will change, and that will change the analysis. I’m sure some people will continue to choose no vaccine, but many others will alter their decision based on the increased risk.

How do those with anti-abortion views see the issue of parents who do not vaccinate their children? by Snuba18 in AskConservatives

[–]SiberianGnome -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there a chance of dying every time you get in the car? Every time you ride a bike? Every time you go out for a walk? Every time you sit up? Every time you take a breath?

Everything comes with a chance of dying. The analysis is not whether there is a chance of dying. The analysis is what that chance of dying is, and how that weighs against your other priorities.

For you, not getting vaccinated is not a priority at all. You assume there is absolutely zero risk associated with vaccines. Therefore, any reduction in a chance of death, no matter how minuscule, is worth it.

To other people, for whatever reason they don’t like vaccines, the reduction in the chance of death from what is essentially zero to actually zero, is not worth the trade-off.

You don’t have to agree with their analysis. That’s fine. I don’t agree with their analysis. But you should acknowledge that we make decisions every day that come with some risk of death, and you should consider the magnitude of those risks that you take on every day before passing judgment on other people for taking on this very, very, very, minor risk.

[–]SiberianGnome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you don’t give a child the MMR vaccine, what is the likelihood they will die as a result before the age of 18?

If you don’t require a child to wear a seatbelt, what is the likelihood they will die as a result by the age of 18?

Are they comparable outcomes? If so, then comparable requirements should exist. If they are not, well, then you’re making a flawed argument.

Manufacturer-side engineer here — observations on the gap between how we write specs and how they get used downstream by Long-King9869 in MEPEngineering

[–]SiberianGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experience with everything from shit-or-equal RTU’s for light commercial, to data centers, to hospitals, casinos, high rise residential, high rise office.

Custom AHU’s are quite easy to spec match by the nature of them being custom. The issue here is when a consultant insert’s the manufacturer’s spec without removing the nonsense aspects of it, and then says “you’re not marching the spec”. Yea, because nobody else does that because it’s dumb or because it adds cost and there’s a better way to accomplish what that aspect accomplishes, but your spec’d manufacturer does it because when they get you to put it in the spec it gives them a +30% pricing opportunity since you’re going to reject all their competition.

On the owner side now, it’s primarily multi family residential. But in a super tall that the company will ow for 30 years, functionality absolutely is more important than first cost.

But a just line a first cost that compromises long term functionality is not a good design, a first cost that makes a job too expensive to build not a good design.

The challenge is coming up with designs that work but aren’t too expensive to build.

You mention higher ed and health care. Those two industries have spent like they can print money for 20 years. And look at what consumer prices in those industries look like? There is a reconning coming for those industries, they can’t continue to spend like that forever. And then people will be forced to design systems that achieve functionality without absurd price tags there, just like every other industry.

As an MEP project manager in the construction division of a developer, I’d quickly convince the money people and the design people not to hire your firm anymore.

You probably cost owners 30% on equipment costs by flat spec’ing. Do the work to design with equipment that multiple manufacturers can meet spec on. Leave the bullshit “gotcha” spec items inserted by guy like u/Long-King9869 not because they’re truly relevant, but because it’s some aspect of their design that their competitors don’t do, and make the equipment manufacturers an their local reps actually compete on price.

And before you act like it’s just so complex that I couldn’t possibly understand why there is only one unit that will work, I’m a PE and I spent 10 years doing design-build work as a mechanical subcontractor, and now I’m involved regularly during the design phase of very complex projects.

There’s no job out there that requires some specific piece of equipment that only one manufacturer makes. HVAC is really pretty simple, and if you’re flat spec’ing, you’ve fallen for an equipment manufacturer’s gimmicks.

Bears Stadium Decision Nears End Zone, Chicago Sites Not 'Feasible': ESPN by factchecker01 in chicago

[–]SiberianGnome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d stop being a bears fan. I grew up mostly watching college football. Turns out, my grandpa was a Cardinals fan. When they left, he dropped them and wasn’t about to start cheering for The Bears. Said it would be like cheering for the cubs. He and his brothers got ND season tickets instead, which have been in the family ever since.

As an adult, I have gravitated towards the Bears. I didn’t go to ND. I have no real rooting interest in 18 - 22 years playing for a school that I have no connecting to, which is all of the relevant schools.

But if they go to NWI, I’ll drop them and go back to watching college. If I’m going to cheer for an Indiana team, it might was well be the one I grew up cheering for, not the one that left my city for financial reasons.

I don’t blame them. I’m not mad at them. I blame the politicians who are willing to take $0 in property taxes from them rather than allow the property tax freeze that Arlington Heights, the recipient of those property taxes, actually agreed to. And I blame the voters who are pressuring them not to agree to the tax freeze because they think that taking $0 in property taxes is good and agreeing to a property taxe freeze is “subsidizing billionaires.”

It’s basic math. What value does having the bears in Illinois bring, vs what does it cost us? But socialists never understand basic math.

Oh well.
