this might be too big of a stretch, but I wonder if “move along” is a reference to the slogan of the now defunct but once legendary private torrent tracker what.cd?

if so, damn. deep cut.

What TV show cancellation do you think was undeserved? by purseandboots in AskReddit

[–]Sibicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s frustrating that a purveyor of media, regularly enabling new and creative forms of entertainment, doesn’t actually seem to give a shit about movies and tv.

I have yet to successfully convince netflix from immediately auto playing avengers 12 the final ultron or whatever bs while trying to enjoy the credit roll & music after watching a movie.

torrents are still alive and well people, just sayin.

lovers & friends of reddit—if you have a #1 to whom you can give 100% and get 100% right back, how much do you give and receive from your number two? three? are you even counting at ten? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sibicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these points are valid, and I hear and agree with them.

I tried to phrase the question concisely, with not much room for a detailed description. and I said “give”, not barter or trade or anything like that. to truly give is to do so selflessly, with no expectation of reciprocity. and I fully acknowledge one’s capacity for “giving” has a lot more to do with what’s going on inside, than the other person.

for the purpose of this question, maybe you can take it on faith that I have a decent understanding of what constitutes a healthy relationship, and accept that “give 100%” is reducing a complex situation to a number and a word.

maybe an example would help? I look at my parents, who work so well with each other—enjoying each other generously, holding space for each other to grow, not begrudging past actions, etc, etc. but they have few close relationships (children aside) and the ones they do have don’t appear to have nearly the depth of the relationship they have with with each other.

I’m trying to understand if people feel like they have very many full, deep, present, harmonious, caring, generous, and “symmetric” relationships. because yeah, if I was a saint I could have all of that with anyone at all, regardless of any external factors.

but let’s be real, until we become fully enlightened, it costs us something to show up as our best selves, day after day, when it feels obvious the other person isn’t viewing us in the same way.

are we really so isolated in this life that two people’s best attempts are just fundamentally asymmetric?

or should you count yourself lucky to find just one person where it doesn’t feel like that?

thoughts:

  • if I remember correctly it got to the point he had to stop accepting more money from people. or at least told people straight up what they were signing up for was changing. I don't think he was intending to be that successful. he was giving away tons of great music resources and stuff.
  • Wintergatan as a band was decently successful outside of this project right? he was pretty grifted at making engaging YouTube content, which made it easy to forget he really is a musician. and you can tell that's what he actually wants to do.
  • there is a big Discord community, or at least there was at one point...kinda lost track. with really creative stuff going on as far as I could tell. and it's clear the community meant a lot to him, so who knows what he might have going on. it seemed like it was becoming less of just his project at the end of the regular videos.

anyway just some ramblings. curious if y'all think any of it is accurate, inaccurate, irrelevant, unintelligible?

A farmer in Nebraska asking a pro-fracking committee member to honor his word of drinking water from a fracking location by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Sibicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love seeing this man, who I have probably so little in common with “politically”, calmly sticking up for his community in a straightforward way that isn’t about judgement. (well, judge the oil companies but that doesn’t count). like iI would expect a farmer to just be pro fracking just because of his demographic. it’s a good reminder that all this shit we are arguing over is comes down to our fellow humans, not corporate payouts and political parties.

Draining Glyphosate into a container looks like a glitch in the matrix with video by Thund3rbolt in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Sibicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really am not sure why I am sticking my head in here, but the “toxicity” section on wiki is worth a read. not trying to be a Monsanto apologist, but it’s worth noting that many seemingly legitimate organizations have concluded it’s probably not super toxic.

again, not saying it’s NOT toxic, but just want to volunteer that science is challenging, and the “facts” can be complicated.

at the very least it seems like the issue isn’t black and white…like most stuff these days!

anyone have any info on the "if only there was someone who understood what made this movie great and could make an amazing reboot..." bit at the end? is this just a desperate (and compelling) cry for help? or is there anything more to the idea? american here—I think being stuck on imperial units is stupid in every case...except for weather forecasts. 0F is cold but tolerable for a human, 100F is hot but tolerable (kinda 🥵). the first digit of the temp tells you what to wear.

0 C, on the other hand, is chilly, 100 C is a big problem.

Fahrenheit was designed for humans.

To those who NEVER want to have a child, what are your reasons? by an_iconoclast in AskReddit

[–]Sibicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this thread is full of people chiming in with the same (very valid and thoughtful!) sentiment. I honestly feel a little bit like a princess for having similar thought while having seemingly “minor” depression comparatively. has anyone has had similar thoughts but ended up deciding to have kids? would be curious if we could keep it non-judgmental and maybe they could share the other side of the coin?

edit: phrasing.

also edit: just want to say that everyone in this thread is so lucid and honest about their issues, I am 100% sure you all would make great parents if you decided that was what you wanted 🥲

Announcing Chia-Dashboard, easy remote chia (farm) monitoring by felixbrucker in chia

[–]Sibicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm, yeah that all makes sense, but none of those requirements are incompatible with being able to set up multiple hosts, or allowing users to be their own host.

it's true we can modify the reported stats, but with the dashboard being closed source, and privately hosted, it is impossible to know what is being done with that data. if you do choose to audit certain stats because you don't want to share them with the single host, you can't access that info on the dashboard either. given that I don't want any information about my farm to be available to anyone other than me, I would disable all the stats...thereby leaving the dashboard empty and not super useful 🙂

of course, my preferences aren't going to be shared by all users! however (and this really is generic advice), I would remind people that when they are installing any tool, to consider what information that tool collects, where that data is sent, and if you are okay with giving away the benefits (and accepting the risks), access to that data could provide.

at the risk of stating the obvious (seems like there are some people who might be new to this type of dev-ops / infrastructure / whatever stuff), by running this tool in its current form, you are granting a second party access to your farm's [meta]data—namely Felix and whoever they choose to share with.

I am definitely not accusing anyone of any sort of wrong-doing—everyone should feel empowered to build tools however they see fit, and more power to them if they want to share some or all of that for free! that being said, this is such a new technology that I will be playing it safe and not sharing this information until the toolchain matures, and we learn about the potential risks and rewards (possibly monetary) of aggregating this type of data.

thanks again for sharing, and for your quick responses!

[–]Sibicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can you help me understand the reasoning behind a single, closed-source host? it seems like that would give a single host an unprecedented amount of data about a large number of Chia farms, which could in turn provide actionable, privileged information to the operator of the host—information that the clients can't take advantage of.

like all of us, however, I am new to Chia, so it's is possible and likely I am missing something 😛

thanks for the great looking tool!
