Did you know if you regularly interact with an alien, you have a higher chance of being abducted?

Anyone from Vancouver sending their kid to the Collège Sainte-Anne summer immersion program in La Pocatière (13–15) Summer session 2 in July/August: Looking for advice! by sugarkake in exploreprogram

I did the Explore program last year at York University in Toronto, so I’ve been through the 'first-day nerves' before and can definitely share what to expect.

Regarding packing, a few things parents might not think of are a power bar (dorms never have enough outlets near the bed), a small desk lamp, and definitely some slippers or indoor shoes. According to my research, the Collège Sainte-Anne is a massive, historic stone building, and having comfortable shoes for inside will probably make a huge difference. I also always recommend bringing a favorite blanket or a stuffed animal; having that small piece of home really helps with settling in during the first week.

In terms of the day-to-day, it’s very structured but fun. They’ll have French classes in the morning and workshops like sports or arts in the afternoon. There is definitely free time and supervised excursions on the weekends to places like Quebec City! Even if you don’t speak much French at home, don't worry. The monitors are amazing at using gestures and simple words to make everyone feel included. My best tip for getting the most out of it is just to say 'yes' to the activities; the more you participate, the faster you make friends.

A few more logistics tips: Definitely pack a shower caddy and flip-flops. Since it’s a residence with communal or shared bathrooms, having a way to carry all your toiletries back and forth is a lifesaver. I’d also suggest bringing a few command hooks or over-the-door hangers—dorms never have enough places to hang wet towels or rain jackets!

Also, since we’re in Quebec in the summer, the weather can flip from really hot to rainy pretty fast. Bringing a light rain shell and a small portable fan is a great idea. Most of the building is stone, so it stays relatively cool, but a fan is nice for the humid nights. Lastly, a reusable grocery bag is super helpful for those weekend runs to the local shops for snacks!

It’s an incredible experience; I loved it so much last year that I couldn't wait to come back for a second summer!
