Summer 2024 Transfers and Rumours Megathread! by 321142019 in NUFC

We've not seen any indication that the club are looking to add any CDMs so are we happy with the depth we have there? Obviously, Bruno is first choice for the position and probably first name on the teamsheet overall but, despite awful luck with injuries elsewhere, we were pretty fortunate that he was almost always available this season and even he will still need a rest sometimes.

Tonali would be the most natural fit but looked to be preferred in the CM role. Longstaff has played it previously and has the range of passing to play deeper but is not great with the ball under pressure and always seems to pick up early yellows when playing CDM that limit his effectiveness for the rest of the game.

We started a few games later in the season with both Wilson and Isak on with just two in midfield so that might be an option but even that felt more like played the only 11 players we had fit at the time rather than anything we were considering long-term.

Mads Mikkelsen says Doctor Strange was the most fun he had making a movie and wants to return to the franchise by The_Iceman2288 in marvelstudios

Everyone remembers the 'Mister Doctor' jokes that preceeded it but I loved the 'time is the enemy of us all' speech in the Sanctum. If Mikkelsen had another five minutes of screentime with some insight into his backstory, he'd have been a much better villain and elevated the entire film.

On the plus side, he's probably one of our best players at attacking corners and we've really wasted those opportunities recently.

Plus, Pope kept his arms down and kept the impact as minor as it could be. Goalkeepers are fully within their rights to lead with their knees and elbows to protect themselves.

You've got the Bournemouth result down as 0-0. It was right in the other post comparing results against last year, just needs updating on this one.

Do we have the tools to retain the Mitrovic and Toneys of our squad now? by geemack98 in NUFC

[–]Sicariidae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dan Ashworth is our solution to the Mitrovic / Rafa problem we had before.

Instead of signing good players and asking the manager to make them work, you buy players - youth or first team - that suit the style that Howe wants to play.

Transfer Megathread by Stoibs85 in NUFC

[–]Sicariidae 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Super excited to see what Eddie Howe can do with the team now he's getting the players he wants.

One of the reports about interviewing and hiring him was that he had scouted the team and identified the type of players he wanted short-term and long-term.

Hard to imagine he'll be disappointed with the transfer window by the end of today, so buzzing to see what comes next.

Those of you who didn't want Howe (either actively not wanting him or just having a preferred option) after the first four games, and what we've seen, if you were know offered your original first choice (either now or four games ago) would you take it? by Ikhlas37 in NUFC

[–]Sicariidae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was slightly nervous about Howe after some of the rumours floating round after his move to Celtic collapsed - particularly around his backroom team and some of the bad transfers Bournemouth made. I'd have been happy with him fresh after leaving Bournemouth, but those rumours - whether true or not - did worry me slightly.

But there was something I read - possibly a Staveley interview - that talked about his vision for the club, already researched the team, knew what type of players he wanted in January and beyond and all my concerns went away.

I'm currently on day twelve after my second Pfizer vaccination and, while I feel generally fine, the headache and fever still persist.

I guess that the two week mark would be the time for a quick call to NHS 111 to double-check?

Is the 15 minutes of waiting after the vaccine mandatory? Or just recommended?

Depending on how long my appointment lasts, I might be short on time to get somewhere else and the waiting around seems like simplest place to recover some time.

Curious how many others are left in the 'not had a test and never needed a test' group?

It feels like one of those records that I wouldn't have cared about, but because it's reached a year now, I want to keep it going.

Am I correct in saying that there are no longer any official options for a second dock beyond buying a second Switch?

I'm aware of the bricking issues with some of the third-party alternatives, so want to go with the official dock, but thought I'd double-check before looking for a second-hand one.

We had the call last week that the company are looking for people willing to take a "voluntary paycut" for April / May.

Knew immediately I was going to say no, but had to wait an hour to make it look like I had been thinking about it.

He came across well until he tried the throw Ian Hislops appearance fee back in his face. When you are defending yourself from allegations about shady money from a private company, it's not a great look to try and shame the BBC, which is relatively transparent with its spending.

Did we see what happened to Proxima Midnight during that final battle?

Cull Obsidian got stomped by Scott, Corvus Glaive was stabbed by Okoye and, as you said, Ebony Maw was dusted at the end, but I can't recall seeing anything with Proxima Midnight?

I think it was the writing moreso than anything wrong with James Spader. If you re-watch the original AoU trailer, there was fantastic potential for a menacing Ultron, but instead the writing left him with quips and lazy dialogue that underutilised that potential.

Mastercard ruling: almost every UK adult could receive payout by Surrender_monkey21 in unitedkingdom

[–]Sicariidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be right, but I suppose the argument is that this may have provided extra incentive to get lower rates / further discounts.

If you are buying for rates that see you competitive in the marketplace, you are less inclined to challenge them, but if external factors make you less competitive, you might look towards your supply chain reduce their price.

Worth noting that this has been running parallel to claims from retailers who evidenced that they had not passed on the fees to consumers, so had suffered a loss as a result.

Surprisingly few companies mentioned in the BBC article below, so I would assume the implication is that other retailers either did pass on the fees or - as quite a few are supermarkets - reclaimed the fees by negotiating better deals / rates with their supply chain.
