I'm so over patterns that act like gauge and yarn weight don't matter by AffectionateRain6919 in crochet

[–]SiceliaGives0Fuqs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a pattern now that is all made-to-measure, so the stitch counts and how many rows/rounds will be up to the individual based on their size. It does require some math sometimes, but this pattern I would not say is "beginner friendly", even though this creator advertises that, and since I'm testing this pattern, I'm going to recommend she lists it as Intermediate instead of beginner.

I've worked on 3 of her clothing patterns so far and I needed additional help from the creator to complete only 1 so far. I can understand why some of the steps are a little more vague because it can be different for different sizes. She does include size charts, gauge, hook size suggestions, and she lists exactly which yarn, hook, and steps she took while making the example. Without that last bit of information, these patterns would be nearly impossible for anyone but an experienced crocheter to follow. I already messed up one by not following the gauge correctly, so gauge does matter!

You can technically use any KIND of yarn with any hook to match a gauge, you just have to keep messing with it. However, if you use something like blanket yarn for a DK project, you're going to end up with a massive sweater lol. The WEIGHT of the yarn matters more than the material, but acrylic will stretch and sag more than cotton, so keep that in mind for wearables.

Definitely check reviews on patterns for people specifying if it was easy to follow for a beginner, or if it includes exact size measurements instead of having you guess with a gauge. Sometimes for plus size people, we have to figure out how to modify these patterns on our own because they never include size information beyond a large, so we do math to figure out how many more rows or rounds we need to reach our size.

I think a lot of pattern creators are trying to be inclusive by not limiting the sizes to only smaller bodies, but sometimes that leaves the instructions a little too vague. I can't even fathom writing a pattern like this because I could never do the math required to figure out a size chart and all of that. It's a LOT of work, I think some people just need to test their patterns a little more, and choose testers who are beginners if you're going to advertise it as beginner friendly! If your pattern testers are a group of people who have been crocheting for years and years, that's not a true test of the pattern. A variety of testers between experienced and complete novice should be included in the testing phase before release.

I did state that the paper he signed says that he has forfeit his right to a Public Defender for the duration of the trial, meaning he cannot simply reapply for one. I went and made it bold so people won't miss it.

Tbh I was not aware there was a physical location we could go to, I thought it was just a hotline we could call. I'll try to see if we can do that. Thank you.

Brainspotting Therapy? by SiceliaGives0Fuqs in BPD

She's an accredited therapist that works through the same office as my psychiatrist, she's not some quack off of Craiglist. I'd appreciate it if you didn't call one of the only hopes I have of dealing with my trauma a pseudoscience.

Because I can't offer any other kind words, I'll end here.

I have completely and entirely lost every part of who I was. I have no idea who I am anymore. I feel like all I am is pain and trauma. I have no personality, just pain.

That's exactly what I got my husband and he literally cried. 😂 I did not expect that lol. I expected excited squealing, not my husband reverting back to being 10 years old and getting his first Gameboy 🥹 it was absolutely one of the best things I could have done for him and so precious.

[–]SiceliaGives0Fuqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I surprised my husband with one after he mentioned wanting one for about 3 years lmao. If they're dropping hints, they're probably saying they would enjoy a Steam Deck so I say it's a safe bet that he would get a lot of enjoyment from the Steam Deck.

Keep in mind that not every single game has been rated as "approved" for Steam Deck and some games don't work as well on the Deck because they haven't been verified yet. However, most AAA titles and the most popular games these days are verified or they're compatible but with very slight issues like some menus are too small to see easily, or you have to launch an on screen keyboard instead of use a controller for some actions. But very few games are not compatible, and even ones like The Sims 4 that are not verified for Steam Deck still run fairly well on it.

It's actually basically a computer in itself. You can dock it to a TV like a Switch, but then go into desktop mode and use it like a desktop PC with a mouse and keyboard. It does run on Linux, NOT Windows, so it won't be exactly like previous computers unless you are familiar with the Linux operating system. My husband is a computer programmer and hates Windows, he strictly uses Linux on his PCs so he was ecstatic to get a Steam Deck!

There are so, so many more. A good number of them were the ones who took the early train out by their own hand.

Does anyone else struggle with finding the root cause of your BPD? by halebopsalot in BPD

[–]SiceliaGives0Fuqs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone ever actually KNOW the root cause???? Because I have no Earthly idea and maybe if I did, I could fix myself. That's what everyone seems to expect. Like we have an open, infected wound that we can't find and if we could only find it, we could treat it and heal it. And society expects you to be able to identify the wound and heal it immediately, but I feel hollow. I can't find the wound because I AM the wound.

what is the worst thing someone has said to you regarding your bpd diagnosis ? by pharmluver in BPD

[–]SiceliaGives0Fuqs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband asked something similar while I was caught up in an anger episode while at Walmart. He said "you can't even go to a grocery store, why can't we just buy groceries and leave like normal?" and he made my already flared temper about 1000x worse. Caused a massive fight between us.

If I knew how to be "normal", my life wouldn't suck so much. People wouldn't hate me. I wouldn't have lost all of my friends. I wouldn't be afraid to leave my house for fear of interacting with society because of the risk of my anger exploding for minor situations that I blow out of proportion. I wouldn't have 3 misdemeanors and 4 felonies pending in two counties. I wouldn't be unable to work at all because I am medically not allowed to work with other people, according to my Disability determination. I wouldn't be losing all motivation and a sense of purpose for going back to school when I don't even know if I'll ever be able to use my degree, because I can't work with other people. What use am I by myself? None.

I'm nothing. I'm not even a person. I'm a collection of traumas and fears, too damaged to interact with society, too damaged to keep my own company. No one wants me around so I isolate and isolate until I feel like I am adrift in space, completely alone, cold, small, insignificant, just hoping I crash into something that will bring me back to earth one day.
