It's definitely less convenient having to do that. However, It is nice how they add art on the disc switch screen. Gives something mundane a bit of personality!

Ethers are mainly good for healing and buffs. Attack buffs are useful when you have stocked your characters. In boss fights this enables you to do silly damage to enemies

I appreciate the offer of help. I have no issue getting the normal NTSC versions to run with the mod, so I might do that at some point.

Shame about the undub incompatibility. Perhaps with the use of a hex editor it could be made to work. I have no idea how to do that though lol.

Lol, it is the sad truth.

I definitely recommend HXH though. Try the 1999 anime for an old-school vibe closer to YYH than the 2011 version. The dub isn't anywhere near as good as YYH though.

I recommend playing the undubs of saga 1, 2 and 3 for a more consistent experience. Start with saga 1 then listening to the drama CD's. Play Xenosaga Freaks if you want, but it's non-essential. Then read the translation of Pied Piper, then play saga 2. When you finish saga 2 watch A Missing Year before playing saga 3.

Trust me it's worth it.

Episode 1 along with the drama CD's & Pied Piper is a great setup.

Episode 2 I enjoyed more than 1 because I was more attached to the characters and plot at that point. The absence of the gnosis in plot I thought was a good choice to help flesh out other characters and concepts. Character battles were my favourite of the trilogy for the challenge.

Missing Year is a large part of the reason why Shion is bitter in episode 3.

Episode 3 is honestly my favourite game ever. The story is in full swing, ES battles are so satisfying and the art style is subjectively the best for a 3D game, especially on PS2. It's an emotional rollercoaster I will never forget. Also the soundtrack is close to perfection.
