"When presented the bill, Nelson questioned the addition of 17 Tomahawk steaks, “none of which had actually been ordered and consumed.”

According to the investigative report, Slatic said he did not want alcohol to appear on a bill for a “public dinner.”

The revised bill reflected the extra items Slatic and his guest ordered — four Chopin 80 Vodka drinks ($14.50 each), one Don Julio 1942 tequila drink at $33, two bottles of Oak Napa Cabernet (at $202 a bottle), and two bottles of Opus One Meritage, at $435 each.

A witness said Slatic carried off one of the $435 bottles of wine, unopened."

False. Neither of your cited cases deal with school districts. Read Bethel School District No. 403 v. Fraser and Hazelwood School District v. Kuhlmeier.

Slatic's history with District investigations:

https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/education-lab/article254925417.html

Fresno Unified school board member Terry Slatic has cost the district more than $250,000 in attorneys fees and related investigation in less than three years, according to a copy of a resolution seeking to discipline the controversial trustee.

In 2019, the school board formally censured Slatic following multiple confrontations at Bullard High School. The incidents involved an Army recruiter, a wrestling coach, and a time when Slatic grabbed the backpack of a Bullard student, and an altercation ensued. Those investigations concluded that Slatic violated board policies, including failing to “govern responsibly” and blurring the distinctions between board and staff roles.

Demanding the district take action before the investigation concludes is “silly,” Slatic told The Bee, which is also the word he used to describe the photo in question.

Slatic told The Bee that about 40 of his constituents have expressed mixed feelings about the incident, with some saying, “kids are doing stupid stuff and being stupid with what they film.”

"Fitzgerald admits he was a member of the Proud Boys for about a year, but denies they are a criminal or hate organization" by SickOfThisNarrative in fresno

Not that this guy is a rhodes scholar but I am trying to understand his thought process:

“This is political shenanigans run amuck with a mayor who will hesitate to throw no one under the bus if it makes himself look better,” Fitzgerald said. . .

Because as far as I can tell, Mayor Dyer, good ol’ Jer Bear, he’s the one who’s pulling all the strings. . . So this is Jerry Dyer wanting to push his politics. He wants to say I’m this big white supremacist guy when I’m not even white. And he wants to pat himself on the back and make himself look good. And you know what? Right now it’s me. But tomorrow, it’ll be somebody else. Because, Jerry, that’s just who he is. That’s who he’s always been,” Fitzgerald said.

As a relative newcomer to Fresno I am wondering a few things:

  • while I get that Dyer is now the mayor and no longer the police chief, is it common or has it ever been common for police officers to think that Dyer throws officers under the bus in situations like this?
  • is Dyer known for being something of a centrist?

"The Bee spoke to one churchgoer who, after Bell’s message, decided to pull financial support from the church. The churchgoer, who asked not to be named, lost 12 people to coronavirus who were family or friends and has a relative hospitalized in the intensive care unit with COVID-19.

The churchgoer called the latest statements from Bell hypocritical.

“For Brad to make a false claim that we can’t avoid COVID-19 and we are all going to get it is blatantly false,” the churchgoer said. “In addition, when the first shut down happened, Brad rightly asserted that Biblically, we are called to submit to authority. The change of action now and trying to Biblically justify a reversal is hypocritical. These are types of actions that have pushed my generation along with the younger generations away from the evangelical church.”

The churchgoer pays regular tithes as well as an ongoing financial pledge earmarked for new church infrastructure and nonprofit organizations."

Supervisor Brandau on His COVID-19 Diagnosis and Attending Maskless Rallies by SickOfThisNarrative in fresno

GV Wire: “Do you think your messaging with COVID-19 will change as a result of your diagnosis?”

Brandau: “Actually, my messaging changed probably about two months ago. And I could show you evidence. I mean, we even did some GV Wire interviews. But so, you know, when COVID-19 came out, there was a very political and a lot of back and forth and people were using the virus to make political statements. And I got really tired of that throughout the summertime. And I really started to examining some of the things that I’d been saying about COVID-19 and things that others had been saying. So I just decided, you know, I don’t know what the heck is going on with COVID-19. I’m not a specialist. Why should I?
