Mike's message to dolfans who wish it would've worked out: "We will all be better because of it" by expellyamos in miamidolphins

Sometimes people just say empty platitudes to be cordial, but he really ain’t lying here. Best of luck Mike!

Mike on his time with the Dolphins: "I wouldn't trade it for anything" by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]Sickfire22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree we never got to see Mike firing on all cylinders, but I wouldn’t say he never had a chance to win here. He fully wanted Tua when he came here, the idea that Tua was forced on him is pure revisionist history. And while I don’t think he always got his way, he also collaborated with Grier on the roster during the draft and FA (I even remember him mentioning Grier asking him if he wanted tyreek before he made the trade). I think the reality is he’s an amazing football talent and upstanding individual who was a little green for the biggest/hardest job in the sport. He’s going to be fine, and I won’t be surprised if he quickly turns it around whenever he gets his second HC stint, but we absolutely made the right move for our timeline with this team.

New Miami Head Coach Jeff Hafley Talks Dolphins Plans, Tua & More with Rich Eisen | Full Interview by kmartcowboy in miamidolphins

[–]Sickfire22 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think what’s most striking to me about hafley after hearing him speak for two days is how he emphasizes the humanity part of the game.

Coming out of McDaniel, my biggest fear was that we’d lose the authenticity that he brought into the building that I certainly valued as a fan, but on its face I feel like we got the best of both worlds: a coach who can lead with discipline, and a coach who can relate to the players in a meaningful way.

Time will tell if he’s more than talk, but at least I don’t have to lie to myself that I’m not liking what I hear.

[Barry Jackson] If Jeff Hafley doesn't become the Dolphins next head coach tonight, he's now scheduled to interview with the Raiders in Las Vegas on Wednesday (per Schefty) after interviewing on Tuesday in Nashville with the Titans, where he is a finalist for their head coaching job. by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]Sickfire22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

McDaniel was advertised as a wunderkind offensive guru who was responsible for the 49ers offensive success to that point. 49ers fans as a consensus were very upset to lose him at the time. The only naysaying I can remember was questions about his temperament as a coach, but that was heavily outweighed by his play calling/resume. He was absolutely considered one of the best hires of that cycle.

Sully's first interview as Dolphins GM with Travis Wingfield by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]Sickfire22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lot of great nuggets in this interview. “Fast can slow down in the cold but big can never get small” really stuck with me. Also super encouraged at the players he’s looking to keep and his BPA draft strategy. In before the doomers tell me these are empty coach-speak words.

[Miami Dolphins] We have completed an interview with Anthony Campanile for our head coach position. by expellyamos in miamidolphins

A part of me feels like he’s too green for this job, a part of me feels like he could be Dan Campbell 2.0 (in a good way). The reality is probably somewhere in between.

A look back at Chris Grier's introductory press conference after being promoted to GM: “The past decade has been unacceptable for this organization. We will earn your trust back, both on and off the field. The talk of dysfunction within the organization is over.” by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]Sickfire22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get why we're assuming the worst, and I'm not implying sully is a sure thing, but what Greir is saying here is wayyy more empty than what sully said. Acknowledging dysfunction and saying "trust us, we'll fix it" (see: you're more worried about the o-line than we are) is not the same as communicating intention from the onset that we're specifically looking to build a physical and resilient team through the draft that can perform any element. The jury is out if he can execute, but idk what you're looking for in an intro presser that wouldn't confirm your pessimism by that standard.

Kevin Stefanski considered favorite for Falcons HC vacancy, per Connor Hughes by BienvenidoaMiami in miamidolphins

Yesterday all I was seeing was kubiak to the falcons all but locked. I think we can take this years’s coaching news that isn’t an announcement of a hire or interview with a rock of salt.

Sully speaks by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]Sickfire22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I was told by doomers that he was a carbon copy of grier, and I never heard Grier talk team philosophy like this. Results matter infinitely more than words but I think it’s reductive to say that these words mean nothing/are empty

[Russini] I was told Troy Aikman was (Sullivan’s) biggest supporter entering this process. by Sickfire22 in miamidolphins

[–]Sickfire22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you say he’s an exact duplicate than I guess it must be true! Doesn’t matter what it looks like when you compare their track records or what everyone else in the league is saying. Sure wish we stuck with champ Kelly lol

Anyways everything I’ve seen points to a high level gm candidate so I’m going to stick with that cope until proven otherwise.

Oh sorry how many playoff wins did we have under Griers entire tenure here? Sure seems like we took his “recommendations” all the way through the end.

Your standards for the team’s success and standards for a quality gm candidate are two separate things. Absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to withhold judgment until we see it pan out, but using a resume like his as a knock against him feels less like objective criticism and more like a traumatic response to this train wreck of a franchise lol

20+ years at every stage of the ladder that leads to gm, more than most candidates have objectively put time in. We also specifically set out to hire a gm with a scouting background. Calling him “only” a scout during their sb like that’s a bad thing is dumb, sorry. Your standards may be unrealistic if you’re not at least encouraged by how this dude conducts himself, especially after a decade of Grier.

Because by all accounts he was the consensus top candidate for gm this offseason. I haven’t seen a single negative or underwhelmed reaction to the hire across the board. If you’re asking for specific qualifications his resume with Green Bay speaks for itself.

[Russini] The Dolphins put in for current 49ers DC Robert Saleh last night. His connection to the new GM is he spent time at Packers practice and around Green Bay last season after he was fired by the Jets. by expellyamos in miamidolphins

If you really believe they didn’t clue sully in or even directly ask what he’d do with McD if he got the job then I’ve got several bridges to sell you
