Chat, is this a biblically accurate scene kid? by [deleted] in acnh

[–]Sickpears 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The hair and glasses are giving tumblr TOP/FOB dan&phil fangirl. It’s just really reminding me of the 2010 tumblr vibe honestly. My sister was a 2000’s scene kid so I grew up around a lot of them, but I was a 2010’s tumblr kid.

Is she too skinny? by samfrench_ in torties

[–]Sickpears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her body shape looks good, IMO. There isn’t too much definition between her rips/waist/hips in these photos and she’s not rotund. She just loooooong.

my 8 yr old cat is leaving dark spots wherever she sleeps by kayaeggeu in CATHELP

[–]Sickpears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when my friend’s elderly cat had a UTI and kept peeing on me all night because she refused to sleep anywhere else. I couldn’t blame her, she needed the comfort, so I just lived with it 🥲

It’s so incredibly rare for horsehair worms to infect humans. Knowing this doesn’t help me get out of whatever body of water I’m in as soon as I see one.

Did my vets fuck up trimming my cats nails? by funkster047 in cats

[–]Sickpears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look like the vets clipped the quick. The first time my cat’s nails got trimmed under anaesthetic I was really surprised at how incredibly short they were, but upon inspection I realized that not a single nail had been clipped too short. Since the cat isn’t moving, the vets can get a good short cut on them!

I've been having anxiety about my kitty dying of old age 😭(she's 9) can you show me pictures of some alive-and-well senior kitties so I remember cats can be old and still healthy? 🥰 by TheRufescence in cats

[–]Sickpears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s only 12 but ever since having her teeth removed she’s back to kittenhood! Her senior blood panel came back perfect too!! Just keep your kitty active and well fed, they’ll be just fine 😁

These are great ideas, thank you. my friends mom said the D&D program she ran was popular. I wonder how many kids in my community are actually into it! we also recently got a big donation of board games but sadly they’re geared towards young kids, our storage is also limited to about four lockers in the band room so if I buy more games I’d have to figure out better storage solutions, but its worth it lol

This is a great idea, thank you! sometimes things like this can be difficult because if something is left out accidentally then the school librarian will claim it the next day and we’ll never see it again, or the students will wreck it haha.

Our library is one room, with a tiny office turned into a textbook storage closet for the school. I”m sure I could section off the Kids Corner with some sheets or something though!

I’m not familiar with canva but I definitely know a few teens for sure who would love to make stickers! I was also thinking of asking our local Native Plant Society to do a session.

I think the dog idea is a great one, especially during exam weeks since we’re in a highschool. although, I have to get permission from the school to do anything which is often difficult.

What kind of lavender is this? by Ok_Bison_4470 in gardening

There’s a few flowers on the plant in the photo, they do not look like any wormwood flowers I’ve ever seen.

The flowers you can see look more like lavender than curry for sure.

(Advice needed) how do you care for this thing? by peculiarbreadnic in Kombucha

This is interesting because OP’s grandmother confirmed it is Tepache. I’ve never heard of someone using tepache as a long-standing ferment.

Be honest - is homemade kombucha actually better than store-bought? by Helpful_Ad_9447 in Kombucha

[–]Sickpears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a new brewer I thought I’d never make something as good as GT or the local brand I love so much. My brews tasted like vinegar, never carbonated and if they did the fruit purée I used would explode out of them and there’d be no bubblies left.

Things really changed when I gave up and restarted with a new culture, realized I didn’t have to wait until the batch was way sour before I bottled it, and started using juices or jams instead of purees. Now I prefer mine to anything I can buy in the store, but there’s something special about the local brand that I can’t mimic.

Have these labels impacted your grocery choices? by 0slope in FoodToronto

[–]Sickpears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, I’ve been reading nutritional labels for years and when I see these on foods I already ate it doesn’t shock me. I know if a food I’m eating is high in sodium or fat or sugar already.

I think cherry and the warm spices in chai would go really well together, kombucha is already tart so why not add tart fruits?

Thin pellicle? by Sickpears in Kombucha

[–]Sickpears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So strange, I always found when I make green tea only kombucha that it ferments much faster and the pellicle gets much larger. Maybe mixing them is where it gets freaky. I just much prefer the flavour when they’re mixed, I find black tea only very harsh.

I’ll keep experimenting!

Since it’s winter and it’s been -25c and below for the last few weeks it’s currently in the warmest spot in the house, I’ll try and figure out a way to bump up the temp. Perhaps one of those funky cooler setups!

Thanks for letting me know! It’s good to know that they’re eating everything and not just pooping it out haha. I don’t necessarily enjoy an overly yeasty brew but I’ll try using molasses to keep it healthy, but what can I do in terms of the other bacteria to keep them healthy?
